Have you ever been to a concert alone?

I'm not a regular concert go-er. But, me, dh and a couple of friends had tickets to see Springsteen. I was looking forward to it. I'm a fan, not a massive fan I don't know all his stuff or anything, but have always liked him. The travel is a pain, but it would have been a good night out.

Long story short, through no fault of anyone, the friends can't now go, and our childcare has completely fallen through. There's no point getting in to it here, but suffice to say several events have coincided to properly scupper our plans. We put the tickets up for sale. And of <course> three out of four have sold. The price of the last one is dropped right down but it's unlikely a single ticket will be popular...

I'm really annoyed to have lost money and a night out, but it struck me today - maybe I should go alone. Then I quickly convinced myself I can't possibly do that. The travel, the weirdness of being in there alone, completely out of my comfort zone etc. But I know it's possible, and I would likely never see him concert again and I've never been to a stadium gig. I just can't muster the confidence to do it ☹️ Would you do it?

Honestly it's never happened. I don't think they are bothered about middle aged women sneaking in their own rum tbh.

I use these, perfect for festivals and gigs alike

Thanks, those were the exact sort of things I'd been thinking of.

The last gig I was at wasn't too bad, £6 for a white wine although it was warm. I wish I'd had some of those when I was at the Big Weekend last year. It was almost £30 for a bottle of wine and I had a couple. Blush

GellerYeller · 25/07/2024 21:10

I tie a hoody or jacket with pockets round my waist and stash my Haribo there. Jeans, maybe a cereal bar or two. I’m not a big drinker but security at Taylor Swift told us wine was £60 a bottle!!! Usually they allow a 500 ml. water bottle. Sometimes they make you throw the cap away but my DCs put various size caps in their jeans pocket before going in 😂

They're perfect. My friend and I buy a pint of coke and ask for a second pint glass full of ice, usually less than £5 between us. Then we decant. Works a treat.

I went to a concert on my own for the first time earlier this year, had a great time and was surprised chatting to people around me how many others were there on their own too. Have a look at the Solo Armada group on Facebook.

I clicked on this post just to recommend the solo Armada on FB! Absolutely go alone, I have and will continue to do so safe in the knowledge that I can fall back on this super group of people if I need to!

Haven't read the thread but just to say I did this once and it was brilliant. It was at a huge stadium - an artist I absolutely adore - and the whole atmosphere was amazing. I was stood next to a nice couple and we boogied away and sang along. Didn't feel lonely at all as was too busy singing. Only regret is I couldn't have a drink as I'd driven.

socks1107 · 25/07/2024 21:20

Yes a few times it's a great thing to do

Prometheus · 25/07/2024 21:21

I used to go to gigs on my own in late 90s when I was age 16-18 as none of my friends were inot the same music. I used to get the train to Manchester, watch the gig and get the last train home. Saw Marilyn Manson, Type O Negative, Soundgarden on my own. Don’t miss out just because you’ll be on your own or you’ll always regret it.

Coughsweet · 25/07/2024 21:22

Just go. I took my DC and friends to Olivia Rodrigo, standing tickets so obviously they disappeared as far away from me as they could get. I stood at the back with their coats in a Waitrose bag all on my tod and came home a massive fan (liked before, love now). Other DC knows several teenagers who went to see Taylor Swift on their own.

User0311 · 25/07/2024 21:25

Yes! I was a little nervous but I had the best time ever

JoyousPinkPeer · 25/07/2024 21:31

I went to see Stevie Wonder on my own. Loved it!

elliesmummy19 · 25/07/2024 21:33

Yes! All the time and I love it.

I met a friend while at a gig alone actually, we recently went to a concert together.

I’m travelling to Scotland alone (from Wales) in October to see my favourite band and can’t wait! Did the same a couple of summers ago and had a brilliant time.

I’ve never once felt like I was missing something or felt weird for being alone. I think I actually enjoy going to concerts alone in some ways!

Absolutely go!

BlueSoul · 25/07/2024 21:41

I accidentally went to a concert alone. Friends bought tickets and encouraged me to get a standing one so we could go together. On the day it turned out their tickets were seated. I had a great time! We met up beforehand and afterwards but it would have been fine had I just travelled there and back alone.

Dontsayyouloveme · 25/07/2024 21:45

Go go go go!! I go to gigs on my own.. I love it!!! And don’t do what I did last year.. which was by a ticket to see Coldplay and then nearer the time thought ‘I can’t be arsed with the faff of getting there’ so I sold the ticket! I watched them on Glastonbury a few weeks ago and regret doesn’t even come close to how I feel having been so silly by not going!! Totally gutted I missed them… so go…. Life is too short not to have the best time… just put a bit of effort in and go enjoy every second!

Flatbellyfella · 25/07/2024 21:55

Back in the 60s I saw dozens of the top groups & stars alone, Beatles , Jerry Lee Lewis, Del Shannon, Bill Haley, all of the Liverpool groups,Tom Jones
BB King ,Chuck Berry, Gene Pitney, Kinks, Geno Washington,Johnny Kid, Tommy Roe, Trogs , Gene Vincent, The Drifters ,Frankie Vally & the four seasons,Roy Orbison, Everly Brothers, Elkie Brooks, Tommy Steel,

SleepingStandingUp · 25/07/2024 22:16

Definitely go OP, I'm your age, i go loads. We don't have child care so end up going alone. I've seen Pink 3 times alone, Robbie Williams, Kodaline, all sorts. I do the theatre alone. And cinema.

Ooh I'm in Scotland, who you coming to see?

I actually prefer going solo too in a way, you just to please yourself, stand where you want, I'm small so I can squeeze to the front pretty stealthily, leave when I want to beat the crowd, sing all the way home in the car.

It's fun. And makes you feel metal as fuck 😁

Milkbottlewaffle · 25/07/2024 22:38

I went to my first gig by myself last year and I will definitely be doing it again!

I found it totally liberating and it was very easy to squeeze through to the front by myself too!

I hope that you have a fab time!!

Tarkan · 25/07/2024 22:45

Another Scot here wondering who @elliesmummy19 is coming up to see. Grin

theluckiest · 25/07/2024 23:06

Did you enjoy it OP?

He was bloody sensational wasn't he?! 3 hours 20 mins...

DeadlyKnightshade · 26/07/2024 00:26

I went to an Altered Images concert on my own 1982. Was meant to go with my boyfriend at the time but we'd just split up.

LonelyRocker · 26/07/2024 00:39

I made it 😄

Haribos safely smuggled in, (the bag, not in the shirt). Last train caught.

It was amazing! Thank you all so much for helping me find the confidence to do it ❤️
