Have you ever been to a concert alone?

I'm not a regular concert go-er. But, me, dh and a couple of friends had tickets to see Springsteen. I was looking forward to it. I'm a fan, not a massive fan I don't know all his stuff or anything, but have always liked him. The travel is a pain, but it would have been a good night out.

Long story short, through no fault of anyone, the friends can't now go, and our childcare has completely fallen through. There's no point getting in to it here, but suffice to say several events have coincided to properly scupper our plans. We put the tickets up for sale. And of <course> three out of four have sold. The price of the last one is dropped right down but it's unlikely a single ticket will be popular...

I'm really annoyed to have lost money and a night out, but it struck me today - maybe I should go alone. Then I quickly convinced myself I can't possibly do that. The travel, the weirdness of being in there alone, completely out of my comfort zone etc. But I know it's possible, and I would likely never see him concert again and I've never been to a stadium gig. I just can't muster the confidence to do it ☹️ Would you do it?

Definitely go. I've spent years going to concerts on my own instead of missing out. Loads of people do it

Keepingittogetherstepbystep · 25/07/2024 02:46

Manic Street Preachers millennium new years eve after royal mail didn't deliver our tickets I could only get 1 so went on my own. My ex went clubbing with his friends (the beginning if the end)

Movingon2024 · 25/07/2024 02:52

I went to see Bruce on my own!

it was awesome. He is awesome. Go!! You’ll love it ( and him),

I saw Bruce at Hyde Park last year & it's a truly stunning show. Go!! You won't regret it!

Stopsnowing · 25/07/2024 04:23

Bruce is great live. Go!!

JustKeepSwimmingJust · 25/07/2024 04:35

Given your friends are home, ask if you can turn up after the concert and spend the next morning with them?

They’ve let you down as bit here so hopefully will be happy to support you going alone.

RedRum27 · 25/07/2024 04:41

No, but doing my first solo concert in November. Bought a standing ticket, will try to get near the front. Don’t hesitate, just do it 😆 might be a bit nerve wracking but you’ll be glad you did it.

Moro93 · 25/07/2024 04:51

I’ve went to quite a few myself when I was a teenager. I go with my DH now cos we like mostly the same music, but I’d definitely go on my own again no problem.

You should definitely go. Don’t let the ticket go to waste. You’ll likely regret not going.

alwayscrashinginthesamecar1 · 25/07/2024 04:56

Yes I have. It was a Bowie fan club only gig in what was then the Hammersmith Odeon. There were only 3000 tickets and I was desperate to go as it was the 30th anniversary of Ziggy retiring. Anyway, I didn't get one of the tickets, but the fan club arranged that all the people who had missed out could meet up in a certain pub, and they would have a raffle for some tickets that had been returned. So I went on my own as my boyfriend wasn't a huge fan, and didn't want to take a ticket off someone who really wanted it. Anyway, I got a ticket in the raffle and ended up having one of the best nights of my life, the gig was incredible! People I met that night sent me cds and photos and we were friends for years after. So just do it, you will have a ball!

Andylion · 25/07/2024 04:56

I’ve seen Springsteen twice by myself. Do not miss this opportunity.

LonelyRocker · 25/07/2024 07:33

Morning. I've had a cry over these messages - whether it's the kindness of strangers or the fact that I think you've convinced me to do it and I'm scared I'm not sure..!

To the pps who asked, no I couldn't still stay with the friends. I technically could find a London travelodge or something but I really need to be back here first thing and I'd rather come home if at all possible.

Thanks for the parking suggestions, I'm keeping that in mind. I've had a good chat to DH (who is like travel google) about it though. There actually are a few more journey options than I originally thought and as long as I'm on a train at the stadium before 11.30 even latest I'd get the train if I hurried and if not there are a few options which would get me a reasonable cab ride away. So, I know it will likely take a while to get out and down the station, but if I gave myself a hard leave time (maybe before the encore as someone said) then I'd easily make it and have less panic about getting home. Panic is the wrong word, but it would be hugely inconvenient to miss last trains!

Ok, I'm going work through all the other little unknowns and try my best to get my self there (What to wear!?😆 I know the bag size thing but can I take a bottle of water/bag of sweets?! What time to aim to arrive? Check and double check which entrance and route to the correct station. And so it goes on...)

Thank you xx

I know the bag size thing but can I take a bottle of water/bag of sweets?!

You can take in a 500ml soft plastic bottle of water with the lid removed. So no hard plastic or metal bottles. There’s water refill points all around the stadium.

I was told you can’t take food in but both times I’ve been I’ve had a couple small things hidden at the bottom of my bag and no one spotted them when searching my bag.

Titsywoo · 25/07/2024 10:02

Not a concert as I'm not really interested in live music but I do a lot of stuff alone and enjoy it. Yes you definitely should do a concert alone if it is something you want to see and noone else can go!

JenniferandJuniper · 25/07/2024 10:13

Yes thoroughly enjoyed it, made sure I knew how I was getting home, it was all good.

Edited

so pleased you are going - it’ll be brilliant!

you won’t be able to miss the crowds to and from Wembley park underground station . it’s probably a 10/15 min walk if clear but will take at least 30/45 mins if you leave with everyone else at the end .

I’m pretty sure he’ll start 7.15 ish and will be finished by 10.30

www.setlist.fm/setlist/bruce-springsteen/2024/dokken-bergen-norway-babbdda.html gives timings for other concerts last week , so you can see the encores . (Setlist is not guaranteed to be the same , but looking back over this tour they all have 2 encores so a good time to leave before the 2nd one if you want to avoid the crush - plenty of others will be doing that too) .

Agree with others - you can take empty plastic lidded bottle and fill up once inside, and stick a bag of sweets in your pocket .

Is it tonight or Saturday ? If tonight, i'll be there and thinking of you having a whale of a time!

DM me if you want my number as backup, but honestly you will be fine and will love it - its great being on your own - as someone said upthread - you can really get into it without worrying about whether everyone else is enjoying it or not

StarsBeneathMyFeet · 25/07/2024 13:09

Last weekend I was able to take a bottle and they said either empty or sealed was okay. I actually took a bum bag. Ideal for a gig. Hands free. No neck pain.
I’m glad you’ve decided to go 😀

Tarkan · 25/07/2024 13:40

I use a crossbody bag for gigs. I've had two different Vera Bradley ones with a main zipped section and then a flappy bit at the front and a secret pocket at the back. I've been through so many bag checks (at the football as well as gigs) and they only ever check the main part of my bag.

I can get lots of snacks in the flappy bit and tbh I've been tempted to sneak some booze in in a Capri Sun type pouch in the past. Grin

PinkArt · 25/07/2024 14:03

I usually hide a couple of little bags of haribo in my bra for concerts where I think food might be taken at security😆

Oblomov24 · 25/07/2024 14:15

Go.
I've been to 3 on the last year. Really enjoyed them.

TonyeKnausgaard · 25/07/2024 14:23

It's brilliant that you've decided to go. I'm sure you'll have the best time. I find gigs alone especially magical because I can get completely mesmerised in it.

You will probably get asked to tip water out, but they'll let you bring a bottle to have filled up at the bar.

FourToTheMFingFloor · 25/07/2024 15:06

Love all these sweet stashers! I've never been at a gig and stopped to root around in my bra for a haribo 🤣🤣

LonelyRocker · 25/07/2024 15:14

Lol, I'm envious of all you women with the kind of bra/boobs you can stash stuff in, I've never really reached that stage, I reckon I'd be dropping haribos left right and centre and the game would be up 😆

You haven't lived😆
It's a practical thing in my case. I've got IBS and if it's flaring up then I sometimes need a sugar hit if it leaves me sort of running on empty. It's easier to sneak something in than start a poo related justification with the poor sods on bag checks!
Bra snacks or not I'm so pleased you are going @LonelyRocker

I have the exact same bag and have little sachets that I bring rum in. Then I only need to buy a coke whilst I'm there.

It's such a good bag for sneaking stuff in isn't it? 😁 What are the sachets you use? The only reason I haven't tried it yet is I know the day I try will end up being the day they check the whole bag. 😆
