Have you been to a place no one else has been to? AGAIN!

Hi

Someone mentioned enjoying this thread so I thought I'd do another one. IIRC you had to post three places and other MNers said if they'd been there. If they hadn't, you won my undying respect.

No impossible places like the inside of a nuclear reactor this time. As small as a pub, as big as a country.

I'll start:

Tikal, Guatemala
Alice Springs, Australia (easy one!)
Jinja, Uganda

GO!

I had a slightly trippy time in Lystvianka on the shores of Lake Baikal. Saw a bear up close and a little too personal for me
Melnik where Churchill's favourite wine came from. Bought litres of the stuff in plastic bottles.
Ekatahuna. The cultural centre of New Zealand

On another note, we are planning to go to Chinisau this summer simply because we know no one who has been to Moldova.

I really really want to go to Moldova

Varosha. (An area of Famagusta, Cyprus, which was until recently walled off and abandoned. It being opened up to tourists is… controversial)

Petra in Jordan

Masada (in Israel - not exactly on most people’s tourist lists right now.)

Kourou Space Centre, French Guiana

Luganville, Vanuatu

Husavik, Iceland

On scaffolding up the facade of Peterborough Cathedral, looking close-up at the statues (would have got even higher if this had not been the day I found out that vertigo kicked in at a certain level, having had few heights reactions before then.)

In the cupola of Queen's College, Oxford.

In a very hidden flat that is tucked into a fairly famous Liverpool church tower (for some years pre-1999ish, lived in by a hermit).
