Have you been to a place no one else has been to? AGAIN!

Hi

Someone mentioned enjoying this thread so I thought I'd do another one. IIRC you had to post three places and other MNers said if they'd been there. If they hadn't, you won my undying respect.

No impossible places like the inside of a nuclear reactor this time. As small as a pub, as big as a country.

I'll start:

Tikal, Guatemala
Alice Springs, Australia (easy one!)
Jinja, Uganda

GO!

I've also been to Uzbekistan, Wawa, Fargo, and Skara Brae - not at the same time!
I'm currently in the Gobi.

crackofdoom · 25/07/2024 15:18

I've been to Ponte de Legno!!
(Whilst hitchhiking from a friend's place in Val Camonica to where a boyfriend was working in a ski resort over the mountains. In deep snow, wearing inadequate footwear 😬)

Are you going to the Energy Centre? That's cool!

Uzbekistan is also the most 'unknown' place that I have been, but there seem to be a few of us! I consider myself fairly intrepid but maybe not. My winter beach holiday in Northern Norway felt pretty unusual I have to say.

I went to Uzbekistan back in 1991 as part of a USSR trip where we also saw tanks rolling into Moscow as part of the attempted coup on Gorbachev...

@Tortiemiaw i have been to Santa Luzia

Oooh. We love it there. We go twice a year if we can. Much to the disdain of our adult children who think we should be exploring the world at our advanced ages!
It's quiet and calm and ...lovely

I spent my childhood going to Praia do Barril and go to Tavira regularly

Barril is gorgeous...especially further along away from the restaurants. We usually get the boat to the Terra Estratia (?) Pretty sure that's completely wrong. I'm learning Portuguese- and failing spectacularly!

Lake Waikaremoana, NZ
Aitutaki, Cook Islands
Bordeira, Portugal

FatArse123 · 26/07/2024 20:14

On second thoughts... Uruguay. I don't know anyone else who has been there.

Chewbecca · 26/07/2024 20:35

Sorry, cruise ships stop in Montevideo, Uruguay so it's not massively unique.

Yellow dragon valley in Sichuan, China. I was with a friend and we were something like the 119th and 120th ‘white peoples’ to visit. They had a tally going at the time.

Santos in Brazil.

I had a slightly trippy time in Lystvianka on the shores of Lake Baikal. Saw a bear up close and a little too personal for me
Melnik where Churchill's favourite wine came from. Bought litres of the stuff in plastic bottles.
Ekatahuna. The cultural centre of New Zealand

On another note, we are planning to go to Chinisau this summer simply because we know no one who has been to Moldova.

Tenderlojn district of San Francisco (admittedly lost! funny story).

Axat, Occitane region of southern France (cool pool).

Peñiscola, near Valencia, where part of El Cid was filmed.

Ooh, I've been to Peniscola, gorgeous place.
