Put the country before himself - yes, finally, but he’s done it.

Please God let my country be ok.

They've kept her hidden, which was for the best. She's not the sharpest tool in the box 🙄

Seems unlikely given her job but if that suits your narrative

I don’t think Kamala has any chance vs Trump.

Aside from being a nothing VP, she has supported Biden throughout recent months when she must have known he was too infirm to run.

And she is a terrible debater.

I do think she'll get tagged with the Biden problem, but what was she to do? Try to oust the party leader and be billed as disloyal, when it was fairly obvious it would come to this?

The best she can say is that she supported Biden to make the decision that was right for the country.

LuckyPeonies · 21/07/2024 19:53

I am sad to see Pres. Biden go, but Harris is polling quite well and, if she picks a good male VP candidate, it should be a cinch for the dems. All the magats (former gop) have is rambling horrible old egomaniac trump, mysoginistic ‘ban abortions nationwide, no exceptions’ vance, and christo-fascist Project 2025.

Emmanuelll · 21/07/2024 19:53

Nancy Pelosi's adviser is saying that the Democrats will look to replace Biden with someone who has polled well against Trump and can handle the campaign against him.

DancingPhantomsOnTheTerrace · 21/07/2024 19:47

I can't quite remember the details but I remember hearing something this week about how the campaign funding with the electoral commission is registered in both Biden and Harris's names, so she can access it if he drops out and she replaces him.

But it's a bit more complex legally if someone else runs. So that might make it more likely to be her.

Has she got the charisma and personality?

I know that shouldn't be the case, but unfortunately it does play a large part in politics.

I think she has been overshadowed.

The main reason that she’s not popular apparently is that a lot of American voters do not want a woman in power. Or a woman of colour. Which surprises me, as are not talking about a third world country here, but a global leader.

The classic unintelligent woman critique. The same insult flung at Angela Rayner. It’s lazy and to be honest it’s sexist.

TheDarkMonarch · 21/07/2024 19:55

About time.

The person Trump WANTS to run against is Biden - because he's an easy and known target these days - which is a great argument for Biden to go and someone new to come in.

ifIwerenotanandroid · 21/07/2024 19:55

Can they get George Clooney in to replace him? I mean, who wouldn't vote for George Clooney? (I would but sadly I'm not American.)

This seems so unclassy from Trump. What is wrong with him?

You have to ask? At least the staff in the Capitol can feel safe next January, they wont have his hoards invading.

I wouldnt. Have I missed his record of public service?

What experience of public service did Trump have?

I live in hope.... project 25 is scaryyyyy

CarmelaBrunella · 21/07/2024 19:59

"Manifest Destiny" indeed.
President Truman had paid up to join the Klan in his younger days, and he was president as recently as the 1950s.
Although he was the first one to address lynching, to be fair.

Igotjelly · 21/07/2024 19:59

If nothing else I’m looking forward to the discussion returning to the fate of American democracy and of the World rather than whether an elderly man is going to make a gaff.

Newbutoldfather · 21/07/2024 20:00

‘The classic unintelligent woman critique. The same insult flung at Angela Rayner. It’s lazy and to be honest it’s sexist.’

Umm, yes, Kamala Harris and Angela Rayner, maybe it is just a fair critique. Never heard anyone say it of Hilary Clinton or Rachel Reeves.

DancingPhantomsOnTheTerrace · 21/07/2024 20:00

I wonder what will happen now.

I know she isn't officially the nominee until the convention, but presumably they'll want any campaign to get up and running asap, so will she want to pick a potential VP candidate before the convention?
Or will it be the case that any potential VPs will want to wait and see if they can maybe swoop in and get the main nomination before agreeing to a VP place?

SnipSnipMrBurgess · 21/07/2024 20:00

Pete Buttigeg (butchering name here) should be it but prob needs more time.

Kamala Harris seeks to be unlikely mainly cos she is a woman a POC and has a liberal mindset. American voters tend to not like any of these.

Trump will sadly win and Project 2025 will begin. Whoever takes over after them will have a lot of work to do to unpick all that.

None. Which is why I wouldn't vote for him either ( assuming I could). But his voters don't care about that. I assume Dems do.

If anyone can take over after Trump decides he ain't leaving.

rainingsnoring · 21/07/2024 20:04

If he was a decent person, he would have gone some time ago and allowed his party to regroup. Kamala Harris is expendable and is now being used as the candidate to fail in what will be a loss for the Democrats. Biden dithering for weeks/ months and the assignation attempt have made a Trump victory pretty much inevitable.

Pikapikapikachu11 · 21/07/2024 20:04

How any woman can vote for trump with project 25 is crazy

BlueLimeRun · 21/07/2024 20:04

I do wish people wouldn’t call him sleepy Joe.

childish and nasty.
