Yes I know I'm wrong. But im ranting anyway/fsm/vouchers

Itsonme67 · 19/07/2024 16:21

I'm pissed of. I have no right to be. There's a way out of it. I'm just being a prick. I'm also in the wrong for thinking this way.

My kids get fsm which means they are entitled to vouchers . My kids school give aldi ones 90.00 per child I have 2 at that school so it's alot of money. So i should definitely be grateful. But they are only allowing collection between 8am -1.30. On the day kids finish at 1.30pm. I was planning on bunking that day. Yes i know that's bad . I live quite away from the school I don't drive and it takes an hour to get there. Then back again. Then I have to do that again a few hours later and they don't even have lessons. They will just play etc .

So I'm pissed of that I have to get my arse out of bed ay 6.30am to get theses vouchers . Dd school does them on line .

I also feel they sort of gate keep them. One year they said collect by 2pm I was a bit late and they would not let me have them. It feels degrading as it is.

Also, might not be a learning day but it’s a day of fun for the kids and the last day to say goodbye to their teachers and maybe some of their class… I wouldn’t want them to miss that.

@Itsonme67

Ok, I’m not sure if you wanted me to explain any part further or if you’re just obnoxious

I honestly don't know what your om about. I have no where said. People should mlt get them vouchers. I'm the one getting them . I have no where mentioned I smoke or drink . If you read my posts you would see i have special needs children. And tree it's important thr children get theses. All the more reason the school should nlt be gate keeping them .. im not sure if you got me mixed up work another poster since I never said there was am issue that people get theses vouchers

@roundspongecake so you think the vouchers should be for more? Yes - they probably should.

I'm usually the first to roll my eyes at entitlement but I feel you're getting a bit of a hard time here, op. 4 hours drive for a half day of silly end of term games is a bit ridiculous. For those saying it's to ensure you don't skive off, what about the kids who aren't reliant on fsm? What's being held over their heads to make sure they attend? And presumably most of them are a good deal closer.

I hope your living situation stabilises over the summer and you don't have such a crazy commute, it can't be much fun for the kids either. Can you just drop them off and do something else for the morning, or take a book and wait in the car? Otherwise maybe try and think of it as £180 for 4 hours work, that's a pretty decent hourly rate!

(Also don't see why it would be unreasonable to expect a choice of shop, I only have Tesco, M&S or Waitrose here, although could get to Sainsburys if need be. I'd be very annoyed to be given Aldi as the nearest is over 30 minutes each way.)

Thank you . I'm in permanent housing now. So there won't be a change . I was just explaining how it came about.

I don’t think you helped yourself with the ‘getting my arse out of bed’ comment OP.

I have to get up at 5am, 5 days per week for work, and I get no vouchers.

Either get up and take your kids to School, or don’t have the vouchers 🤷‍♀️. Simple

As I said we all feel like we can't be arsed sometimes. But yeah I agree the choice is get up or don't have them

OP posts:
Ancestrysos · 19/07/2024 18:07

@Itsonme67

the first part of my reply was to you and the second part to posters moaning about you getting the vouchers. Sorry if that was confusing.

I agreed they shouldn’t be given out in reception because it’s undignified for the parents, much better discreetly via email.

But if that’s what they do, that’s what you have to do to get them and I’d think you were mad if you passed them up because you didn’t want to send your kids in that day (which in my opinion shouldn’t of been an option in the first place.) Of course that’s just my opinion and they’re your kids…

Yes I don't think £3 per child is enough

LadyKenya · 19/07/2024 18:08

CharlotteLucas3 · 19/07/2024 17:56

I suggest that you only listen to posters with autistic children and no transport op. You’re not ‘entitled’ just because you expect to be treated with a bit of consideration and it isn’t the role of the disadvantaged to improve the attendance figures

Why? I have no children with Autism, and no doubt others on here also, who have not been derogatory to the OP, and have posted in support.

YOYOK · 19/07/2024 18:09

I fully appreciate getting your arse out of bed is annoying but for £180 in food vouchers? Surely it’s not something you’d think you can’t be bothered to do! But if you can’t be bothered, then don’t.

NeverDropYourMooncup · 19/07/2024 18:12

Needmorelego · 19/07/2024 17:36

@NeverDropYourMooncup yes I think food parcels aren't popular because many parents can't collect/carry them and the items provided aren't always what the children will eat so a lot doesn't get used.

The ones that don't come on the last day/week (and therefore avoid some of the safeguarding holiday checks) seem to like eating them when they come back in September, so what we put into the parcel - actually I should say bags, as we get those so they can be carried - can't be that bad. Or maybe they're just really hungry by then? We don't deliver them anymore because too many were on holiday rather than at home 'sick', and that would trigger the fine process, as the visit and absence had to be recorded.

Yes I'm not thick but £3 a day isn't enough

If you can get to a proper supermarket and you have an oven and a hob then £3 per child is enough to cover the cost of one meal?

I already said I will. I was just asking a moan.

I also think its wrong to gate keep them in that way . If I child is ill . Or even if the patent does not take them in. It's the chikd that suffers . Yes it is responsibility of the parent. But the school also has responsibility to a child
If they gate keep them vouchers them the school is also responsible. But as I say I will take them in .

People who need the help of a financial safety net/benefits for whatever reason are still entitled to feel pissed off. Everyone on this forum has moaned at some point: being in receipt of help does NOT mean constantly having wear a fixed, grateful grin.

Life is hard and stressful, and the OP has shared her challenges: everyone deserves the luxury of a bloody moan sometimes!

Yes it definitely can.

75 p for four large potatoes to make jacket potatoes = about 19p per potato

Half a can of beans per potato

Less than £1

I 'get my arse' out of bed every day at 5.30 to go to work!

The entitlement here is HUGE! 😮

Why is this poster wrong?

I get up at 4.30am for work

Work for a charity

Shit wage. Really shit

Why is the school run so far away?

DeadlyKnightshade · 19/07/2024 18:17

Gilead · 19/07/2024 16:53

For goodness sake, leave her alone, she does the school run at four hours a day to ensure the necessary stability for her children. She just wanted to take the last day off, she’s probably knackered. The school have said vouchers are available on the last day, she’s said she’s going in, she’s just a bit bummed about it. She’s not being entitled, she’s allowed to express that it would have been easier to have the day off. I used to keep my autistic children off on the last day, it can really unsettle them because their routine is disrupted.
Anyway, nothing nice to say, fuck off snd stick your nose into your own business!

Well said.
Some PP on here are being goady but of course that's nothing new.

Needmorelego · 19/07/2024 18:18

@ClimbingMounjaro did you miss the bit about the OP having to move including time in temporary accommodation?
Even if she had wanted to change schools there's not always spaces available.

Sandbag11 · 19/07/2024 18:21

@Itsonme67 If your child has autism, do they have an ECHP? Wouldn’t they qualify for free school transport if you live quite a way from school? That could make things easier?

Needmorelego · 19/07/2024 18:21

@ClimbingMounjaro no worries 😁

Safe guarding? Holiday checks . So because a chikd had the last day of it stops safe guarding checks ... that's hard to believe.

Eating them after 6 weeks? Because they must be really hungry vagter 6 weeks that's an odd thing to say .

They were not home sick ? How do you know they were not at the gp or hospital maybe even sleeping. Do you hp and check children are ill though the school year or just the last day of the school year

For lunch it’s fine ? My dc usually have a sandwich, veg sticks , a yogurt and piece of fruit totally possible if you shop wisely to do this for £3 a day
