Yes I know I'm wrong. But im ranting anyway/fsm/vouchers

Itsonme67 · 19/07/2024 16:21

I'm pissed of. I have no right to be. There's a way out of it. I'm just being a prick. I'm also in the wrong for thinking this way.

My kids get fsm which means they are entitled to vouchers . My kids school give aldi ones 90.00 per child I have 2 at that school so it's alot of money. So i should definitely be grateful. But they are only allowing collection between 8am -1.30. On the day kids finish at 1.30pm. I was planning on bunking that day. Yes i know that's bad . I live quite away from the school I don't drive and it takes an hour to get there. Then back again. Then I have to do that again a few hours later and they don't even have lessons. They will just play etc .

So I'm pissed of that I have to get my arse out of bed ay 6.30am to get theses vouchers . Dd school does them on line .

I also feel they sort of gate keep them. One year they said collect by 2pm I was a bit late and they would not let me have them. It feels degrading as it is.

I'm usually the first to roll my eyes at entitlement but I feel you're getting a bit of a hard time here, op. 4 hours drive for a half day of silly end of term games is a bit ridiculous. For those saying it's to ensure you don't skive off, what about the kids who aren't reliant on fsm? What's being held over their heads to make sure they attend? And presumably most of them are a good deal closer.

I hope your living situation stabilises over the summer and you don't have such a crazy commute, it can't be much fun for the kids either. Can you just drop them off and do something else for the morning, or take a book and wait in the car? Otherwise maybe try and think of it as £180 for 4 hours work, that's a pretty decent hourly rate!

(Also don't see why it would be unreasonable to expect a choice of shop, I only have Tesco, M&S or Waitrose here, although could get to Sainsburys if need be. I'd be very annoyed to be given Aldi as the nearest is over 30 minutes each way.)

I don’t think you helped yourself with the ‘getting my arse out of bed’ comment OP.

I have to get up at 5am, 5 days per week for work, and I get no vouchers.

Either get up and take your kids to School, or don’t have the vouchers 🤷‍♀️. Simple

To be fair, the OP insinuated she has a disabled child and little sleep at night after that post. She's also insinuated her children go to school every day and she doesn't work, giving her several hours to herself and to nap if needed.

Insinuated?

HopeMumsnet · 19/07/2024 17:41

That's good that you're not bothered, but we are. Trollhunting is against our rules and always has been. We have seen too many people hurt by others treating threads as a spectator sport. Thanks to those who reported it.

OP you are really not being a good example here and people are quite rightly outraged at your laziness. You’re living right up to the stereotype so well done.

For all those complaining though, you have to think there are children who literally would not eat much if at all without them, they are for the children not the parents & wouldn’t you rather live in a society that looked after their vunerable children? I know I would… they are not allowed to be used to buy alcohol or tobacco products, thankfully…

Entitled much?

I shop at Lidl. Nowt wrong with it for most things
except Lidl and Aldi have a limited selection

I often have to go onto Tesco, Morrisons or Sainsburys to get stuff they don’t stock.

today it was dishwasher salt, deodorant that I’m not allergic too, barley (use a lot) so hardly expensive things.

giving vouchers to one shop is controlling and limiting. It is treating parents like children.

I never saw this till it was quoted . What makes you think I cam sleep in the day. Why do you make the assumption I can do that ?

Because that poster has decided that you're the stereotype of a lazy, feckless scrounger.

Charming, aren't they?

Ancestrysos · 19/07/2024 17:45

Oh as a follow on though I agree having to collect from reception is unnecessary and I’d bet plenty don’t because they are embarrassed.

I'm really confused about the timings. Don't you have to take your kids to school and pick them up again anyway...why can't you just get them then or am I missing something?

Yes, OP.wasnr going to bother sending her kids to school on the last day.

Ancestrysos · 19/07/2024 17:51

@Itsonme67

Ok, I’m not sure if you wanted me to explain any part further or if you’re just obnoxious

diktat · 19/07/2024 17:51

And yet on other threads people admit to taking the kids out of school and paying the fine for a cheaper holiday, and pat themselves on the back for it.

Seems like there's one rule for some and for others...

This. There should be a way to ensure that the vouchers are able to be distributed so that the parent does not have to feel embarrassed, because at the end of the day, it is the children that would have to go with less/ out.

rainbowunicorn · 19/07/2024 17:53

Needmorelego · 19/07/2024 16:30

@Itsonme67 why can't you collect the vouchers when you collect the children?
I don't understand.

Because she wanted to let the kids skive off today so she didn't have to get up at 6.30 to get them there as it's the last day

WorriedMama12 · 19/07/2024 17:55

Take them to school, straight to Aldi, taxi home them pick them up at 1.30. I'd do that for £180!

I think most people would groan at 2 x 2 hour round trips (so 4 hours of travelling) so their kids could play for a couple of hours at school.

CharlotteLucas3 · 19/07/2024 17:56

I suggest that you only listen to posters with autistic children and no transport op. You’re not ‘entitled’ just because you expect to be treated with a bit of consideration and it isn’t the role of the disadvantaged to improve the attendance figures

We have dry humour in my house. My son has a good job that earns good money. But no one likes his job . So I take the piss . Abdvhe takes the piss back and calls me feckless. It's a running joke in my house. So made me laugh a little.

You may have phrased things poorly but either get up and get the vouchers or don't 🤷‍♀️
I get up before 5am 5 days a week to get to work, I barely sleep because of my own health issues and shockingly no-one seems to want to hand me £180 worth of food vouchers!
To be honest if they did and they told me I had to shop at 2am to get them I can guarantee my alarm would be set and I would be dragging my arse to the shop!

roundspongecake · 19/07/2024 18:00

Comedycook · 19/07/2024 17:28

This was explained wasn't it.

Weekdays x six week holiday = 30 days

30 x £3 = £90

£90 x 2 DC = £180

This seems reasonable.

Yes I'm not thick but £3 a day isn't enough

rainbowunicorn · 19/07/2024 18:00

Itsonme67 · 19/07/2024 16:52

It's still a day of no learning for the child.

It isn't though because it never was a learning day. It gas been taken from holiday. Your child gets the exact same amount if learning time ad they would if there were no inset days and they were just put back on to holidays.

roundspongecake · 19/07/2024 18:01

Needmorelego · 19/07/2024 17:33

@roundspongecake yes it's £3 a day - which is similar to the amount given to schools to cover the school meal. It's to replace the free school meal that they aren't recieving because school is closed.

The schools buy in bulk though. £3 for a hot meal isn't enough

Needmorelego · 19/07/2024 18:02

@Rainbowsponge yes I know what the OP meant as she explained it.
As someone who spends over 2 hours a day total getting from home to school, school to home again and then doing it again at the end of the day - it's mentally and physically exhausting sometimes.
For a day of probably helping the teacher take down the wall displays, tidying out the trays and watching a film - I can see why the OP just didn't want to do it.
