Yes I know I'm wrong. But im ranting anyway/fsm/vouchers

I'm pissed of. I have no right to be. There's a way out of it. I'm just being a prick. I'm also in the wrong for thinking this way.

My kids get fsm which means they are entitled to vouchers . My kids school give aldi ones 90.00 per child I have 2 at that school so it's alot of money. So i should definitely be grateful. But they are only allowing collection between 8am -1.30. On the day kids finish at 1.30pm. I was planning on bunking that day. Yes i know that's bad . I live quite away from the school I don't drive and it takes an hour to get there. Then back again. Then I have to do that again a few hours later and they don't even have lessons. They will just play etc .

So I'm pissed of that I have to get my arse out of bed ay 6.30am to get theses vouchers . Dd school does them on line .

I also feel they sort of gate keep them. One year they said collect by 2pm I was a bit late and they would not let me have them. It feels degrading as it is.

Yes because it's 2hrs travel for the morning school run. Them 2hrs for the afternoon

Jesus @Itsonme67 why would you do that to yourself! Surely there’s a school closer!

Illbehistrash · 19/07/2024 16:36

our school does the same even the Aldi bit ! I love it it gets us SO much plus as we rarely go to Aldi as it’s not nearby the dc think it’s an outing . You could maybe send your dc that day but pick the voucher up then go to Aldi while they are at school ? It’s honestly worth it for £180 it’s really generous

I imagine that the exact reason they have given that collection widow, is to encourage people in for the last half day. Attendence figures are shocking across schools currently, and they are being encouraged to try all and any ways to get kids in. Fridays and end of terms are particular issue areas for attendance.

You might be annoyed, but it makes complete sense and, actually, if it causes you to bring your children in for their last day, is working as intended (I very strongly suspect). I am going to suggest this to our attendance officer; don't know why we don't already do it!

I agree that's probably the reason. But I still wanted to moan about it . I get it though

They shouldn’t be getting vouchers to start with. Utterly ridiculous

Why?
Some families really need them.

I agree, seems to be setting the kids up for failure.

Only has to take them to school and collect them, school feeds them during the day and pays for their food in holidays, yet she can't be bothered and the kids will pick up on this and think it's a normal way to live.

It is setting a bad example.

Blueyatemyhomework · 19/07/2024 16:41

Could you not travel to school, collect the vouchers, find something to do in the area somewhere near school then all go home again?

Mymanyellow · 19/07/2024 16:41

how ling is £180 supposed to last for?

SquirrelBlue · 19/07/2024 16:42

I can see why you'd want to bunk the last day to be honest. I remember my mum getting frustrated with it too. She still sent me in but our travel time was nowhere near as bad as yours. It's only a few hours of fun which is nice for the kids but with a 4 hour round commute I can see why you might choose to skip it. It's not like they're missing out on learning.
I can see why the school would hand out vouchers like that because it reduces the risk of parents skipping the last day which schools need for their attendance figures. But I get it's still frustrating for you. It seems strange that all schools don't have the same consistent system!
As for people getting sniffy about why vouchers are handed out, presumably they're lucky enough not to have experienced why these might be needed. Theres damn good reasons for those vouchers being handed out. Don't add to the stigma

That's actually a good idea. I could get there early before it's packed . Thank you . Never thought of that

twentysevendresses · 19/07/2024 16:46

I 'get my arse' out of bed every day at 5.30 to go to work!

The entitlement here is HUGE! 😮

Needmorelego · 19/07/2024 16:46

@Mymanyellow it's generally £15 a week (so 6 weeks, 2 children = £180).
Or £3 a day as it's replacing school dinner which you only get Monday - Friday.

S1lverCandle · 19/07/2024 16:47

Needmorelego · 19/07/2024 16:30

@Itsonme67 why can't you collect the vouchers when you collect the children?
I don't understand.

She said in the op, she was planning on bunking off that day! Hmm

LivingDeadGirlUK · 19/07/2024 16:47

I used to have a 1.5h commute each way to school and its bloody exhausting.

Yellowbananasarebetterthangreen · 19/07/2024 16:48

I dont get it op - if they were finishing at 1:30 today why couldnt you just have been there at 1:15pm to collect the vouchers and then the kids at 1:30?

Needmorelego · 19/07/2024 16:48

@S1lverCandle I missed that bit 🙄

Edited

Inset days (or Baker days as they were known when first introduced) were taken out of school holidays NOT term time. They are most definitely not days off for teachers.
