Yes I know I'm wrong. But im ranting anyway/fsm/vouchers

I'm pissed of. I have no right to be. There's a way out of it. I'm just being a prick. I'm also in the wrong for thinking this way.

My kids get fsm which means they are entitled to vouchers . My kids school give aldi ones 90.00 per child I have 2 at that school so it's alot of money. So i should definitely be grateful. But they are only allowing collection between 8am -1.30. On the day kids finish at 1.30pm. I was planning on bunking that day. Yes i know that's bad . I live quite away from the school I don't drive and it takes an hour to get there. Then back again. Then I have to do that again a few hours later and they don't even have lessons. They will just play etc .

So I'm pissed of that I have to get my arse out of bed ay 6.30am to get theses vouchers . Dd school does them on line .

I also feel they sort of gate keep them. One year they said collect by 2pm I was a bit late and they would not let me have them. It feels degrading as it is.

I 'get my arse' out of bed every day at 5.30 to go to work!

The entitlement here is HUGE! 😮

Or some of us have special needs children, done of us have different struggles. Some of us only sleep 4hrs a night. Etc etc

Yeah, I see what you are saying. Kind of like in the old days when people were forced to queue for dole money on a certain day.

These systems aren’t designed to make you feel good. They’re probably designed to meet the minimum legal requirements.

Anyway, it’s end of term so you won’t have to do the school run for ages. Could you afford to get a taxi for the morning trip just this once?

Pumpkindoodles · 19/07/2024 16:50

No one at all wants to do a 2-4 hour school run for 4.5 hours at school where they’re not doing lessons anyway, let’s get down from our high horses.

Comedycook · 19/07/2024 16:51

So you take them to school and don't bother to go home again then...take a walk, the weather is nice, sit in a park, pop to some nearby shops in case you need some bits then get them from school.

Inset days (or Baker days as they were known when first introduced) were taken out of school holidays NOT term time. They are most definitely not days off for teachers.

It's still a day of no learning for the child.

For goodness sake, leave her alone, she does the school run at four hours a day to ensure the necessary stability for her children. She just wanted to take the last day off, she’s probably knackered. The school have said vouchers are available on the last day, she’s said she’s going in, she’s just a bit bummed about it. She’s not being entitled, she’s allowed to express that it would have been easier to have the day off. I used to keep my autistic children off on the last day, it can really unsettle them because their routine is disrupted.
Anyway, nothing nice to say, fuck off snd stick your nose into your own business!

Balloonhearts · 19/07/2024 16:53

Why do you think they do it! 😂

Ilovelurchers · 19/07/2024 16:54

OP, if you don't normally shop at Aldi but have the vouchers it's probably worth having a think about what you will use them for....

Aldi is really good value and good quality for certain things. In my opinion, I would stock up on:

Breakfast cereal.
Whatever fruit and veg they have on offer in their super 6
Jarred sauces
Herbs and spices
Tinned veg
Crisps
Biscuits
Ice cream
Cleaning products
Toilet roll/kitchen roll

You may not use all of these things - they are the things I stock up on when I do a big Aldi shop.

For what it's worth, I don't think the school should be controlling the vouchers in this way, but as they are, may as well make the most of what you have got...

Needmorelego · 19/07/2024 16:54

@WiseBiscuit excuse me - she has a child with a disability!
That is not an easy life.

Such a nasty post. Did it make you feel good writing that?

Based on the language used, the hostility to thr OP is that she "cannot be bothered to take the DC to school"

Thats why people are annoyed

Mymanyellow · 19/07/2024 16:55

Needmorelego · 19/07/2024 16:46

@Mymanyellow it's generally £15 a week (so 6 weeks, 2 children = £180).
Or £3 a day as it's replacing school dinner which you only get Monday - Friday.

Oh ok I understand now. Bit of a faff having to go get them. But lucky to have them really. Don’t have to spend them all at once either. Should get a decent amount in Aldi.

For 4hrs ?

This was suuuuuch a bad idea @Itsonme67 posting this... its like cannon fodder for the vipers.

I get it... the one day you can safely bunk the kids off school cos they will be doing absolutely bugger all learning... is the day you HAVE to go in to get the vouchers and unlike a full day where you can go home and get stuff done, theres not really enough time to go home, but a bit too much time to hang around..

Get it done though - get the bus in, get the vouchers, flop around town in the heat, do the shop and take the kids home in a taxi. Its worth it for the haul you'll get from Aldi!

Absolutely this. Aldi is great for store cupboard essentials and cleaning stuff if you've got the means to carry them (like under your pram or a sholley).

Illbehistrash · 19/07/2024 16:58

@WiseBiscuit i think this is really really unfair and unkind.

You’re calling someone feckless and lazy but the OP has explained they have a disabled child and have hardly any sleep some nights and wanting the fsm voucher collection to be a bit more flexible , because of a lengthy school run on the shorter than usual last day.

Sometimes people need to just vent ? It doesn’t mean that OP is ungrateful just exhausted I expect ? Maybe you can say something constructive rather than having a go at someone who has a lot to deal with ?

Needmorelego · 19/07/2024 16:58

@Itsonme67 ignore the bitchy people on here.
I was confused at first about what you meant about missing the last (half) day - but now I understand - and can see why you'd consider it.
(that's awful they wouldn't give you the vouchers last year)

Blueyatemyhomework · 19/07/2024 16:58

Itsonme67 · 19/07/2024 16:56

For 4hrs ?

Make a picnic and create an adventure walk/treasure hunt round a park for any preschoolers. The 4 hours should disappear quickly.

Blueyatemyhomework · 19/07/2024 16:59

If you're on your own take a book, a flask of water and some snacks and enjoy the peace and sunshine!

Comedycook · 19/07/2024 16:59

Itsonme67 · 19/07/2024 16:56

I mean yes it's an annoying time frame...not enough time to get home and back yet also too long to hang around but £180 worth of vouchers is absolutely brilliant imo. I'd be thrilled. It's totally worth it

notbelieved · 19/07/2024 16:59

Rainbowsponge · 19/07/2024 16:23

Entitled much?

Yeah, it's really entitled to want to be able to shop at whichever supermarket you usually use.

Why comment if you can't just think a bit?

Some of us even buy actual fresh food at Aldi...
