Yes I know I'm wrong. But im ranting anyway/fsm/vouchers

I'm pissed of. I have no right to be. There's a way out of it. I'm just being a prick. I'm also in the wrong for thinking this way.

My kids get fsm which means they are entitled to vouchers . My kids school give aldi ones 90.00 per child I have 2 at that school so it's alot of money. So i should definitely be grateful. But they are only allowing collection between 8am -1.30. On the day kids finish at 1.30pm. I was planning on bunking that day. Yes i know that's bad . I live quite away from the school I don't drive and it takes an hour to get there. Then back again. Then I have to do that again a few hours later and they don't even have lessons. They will just play etc .

So I'm pissed of that I have to get my arse out of bed ay 6.30am to get theses vouchers . Dd school does them on line .

I also feel they sort of gate keep them. One year they said collect by 2pm I was a bit late and they would not let me have them. It feels degrading as it is.

Entitled much?

What? Why shouldn't there be a choice? Loads of people might live next to a tesco say and the lidl be two bus rides away

That poster is pretty slow . Theses vouchers have been given for some time. Since covid.

I had no idea. I'm glad it's a thing though - ignore the snarky anti voucher comments (only an absolute reptile would grudge a child the means to eat).

Because @Itsonme67 was planning on not taking them to school at all that day as it’s a half day I presume.

Well now you're taking them. Get over it

Truckeme · 19/07/2024 17:24

Wow

I think I'd find it hard to turn down the prospect of £90/hour myself.

Use the £20 or so that a cab would cost (that you're not having to spend on food now) to make it less of an effort.

It's disheartening to spend ages buying and making up parcels - which is what we do, as our LA gives as little as possible, far less than £90 each, and we can get more from buying in bulk (especially as we then add in extra from the Pupil Premium funding for treats as well as basics) - only to find that the kids who most need them aren't in anyway and the parcels are left sitting in the Pastoral Room until September. Especially when those same kids come back in September having not been fed as well as they should have been.

Our school used to do the food parcel's they were stopped . I could never get them anyway as I could not get them home. Probably the same for alot of others to.

They shouldn’t be getting vouchers to start with. Utterly ridiculous

Why ? Would you prefer them not to eat at all ? You might want to stop being smug long enough to recognise that not everyone is as fortunate as you clearly are.

It’s to cover one meal a day for the who summer holidays

For TWO children?? Are they having a giraffe?

By the way, my post wasn't a dig, just a statement that some of us have similar issues to you and still have to work. Just a fact.

As I said in reply everyone situation is different. Their child's needs may be different, the support system may be different. They may have a partner to share with. They may be completely on their own with no support at all . It could all be on one person's shoulders.

Yeah, I see what you are saying. Kind of like in the old days when people were forced to queue for dole money on a certain day.

These systems aren’t designed to make you feel good. They’re probably designed to meet the minimum legal requirements.

Anyway, it’s end of term so you won’t have to do the school run for ages. Could you afford to get a taxi for the morning trip just this once?

If someone needs £180 to get their kids through six weeks of summer then it’s not a stretch to guess the answer to that question now, is it?

Helpful passive aggressive reply, thanks for that. Really adds value to the thread.

This was explained wasn't it.

Weekdays x six week holiday = 30 days

30 x £3 = £90

£90 x 2 DC = £180

This seems reasonable.

TokyoSushi · 19/07/2024 17:29

🤐

OlderGlaswegianLivingInDevon · 19/07/2024 17:29

I believe these vouchers only started during Covid times,

and you are very lucky still to be receiving them as Torbay Council stopped them quite some time ago for the school holidays altho Devon or Teignbridge Council still do them - I work in ASDA on checkouts and get given online gift vouchers quite frequently.

Nanny0gg · 19/07/2024 17:33

SomeoneelsessFault · 19/07/2024 16:33

I imagine that the exact reason they have given that collection widow, is to encourage people in for the last half day. Attendence figures are shocking across schools currently, and they are being encouraged to try all and any ways to get kids in. Fridays and end of terms are particular issue areas for attendance.

You might be annoyed, but it makes complete sense and, actually, if it causes you to bring your children in for their last day, is working as intended (I very strongly suspect). I am going to suggest this to our attendance officer; don't know why we don't already do it!

For a half day of doing virtually nothing??

Why?

Needmorelego · 19/07/2024 17:33

@roundspongecake yes it's £3 a day - which is similar to the amount given to schools to cover the school meal. It's to replace the free school meal that they aren't recieving because school is closed.

Hi all,
Please could we ask for the trollhunting to stop? It is against guidelines and if it continues we will be forced to suspend those who flout the rules. As everyone knows, if posters have concerns they are very welcome to flag them to MNHQ via the reports system.
While we never can vouch 100% for a poster we have been aware of this MNer for some time and are inclined to give the benefit of the doubt.

fouryace · 19/07/2024 16:40

I agree, seems to be setting the kids up for failure.

Only has to take them to school and collect them, school feeds them during the day and pays for their food in holidays, yet she can't be bothered and the kids will pick up on this and think it's a normal way to live.

It is setting a bad example.

Do you know what children do on the last (often half) day?

Did you see how long it takes for the OP to get there and why she does it?

Needmorelego · 19/07/2024 17:36

@NeverDropYourMooncup yes I think food parcels aren't popular because many parents can't collect/carry them and the items provided aren't always what the children will eat so a lot doesn't get used.

I'm guessing she'd rather the money be spent on propping up Tory donors' companies and MP's salaries.

Benefit of the doubt 😭. I can send proof.

Anyway have people reported me as a troll? Or do we mean the comments that are here. I'm not bothered by comments.

And also it's more of a discussion now I think . 🤔

It makes more sense to give vouchers, so that the parent can buy food the child/children will actually eat, and cater to any allergies, etc, which a food parcel will not necessarily be able to do.

That's crap. Ours give you a choice for whatever shop you want. I always pick Sainsbury's. That's bad

I think you mean that's great. That you're basically getting given free (to you) money.

Nanny0gg · 19/07/2024 17:39

But.. you're also getting £180 from doing this? I'm well paid and I'd do it!

Yes @Itsonme67

Be grateful and remember to curtsy after
