Yes I know I'm wrong. But im ranting anyway/fsm/vouchers

Itsonme67 · 19/07/2024 16:21

I'm pissed of. I have no right to be. There's a way out of it. I'm just being a prick. I'm also in the wrong for thinking this way.

My kids get fsm which means they are entitled to vouchers . My kids school give aldi ones 90.00 per child I have 2 at that school so it's alot of money. So i should definitely be grateful. But they are only allowing collection between 8am -1.30. On the day kids finish at 1.30pm. I was planning on bunking that day. Yes i know that's bad . I live quite away from the school I don't drive and it takes an hour to get there. Then back again. Then I have to do that again a few hours later and they don't even have lessons. They will just play etc .

So I'm pissed of that I have to get my arse out of bed ay 6.30am to get theses vouchers . Dd school does them on line .

I also feel they sort of gate keep them. One year they said collect by 2pm I was a bit late and they would not let me have them. It feels degrading as it is.

I'm delight that MN have removed the bloody awful comment above. While I can no longer quote Wisebiscuit's nasty, mean little contribution, I'll still keep my response below:

Ugh. When I see posts like this, I have to remind myself how bitter and bleak a poster's own life might be, that they'd post something as hateful as this.

It's either that, or they are simply a strikingly unpleasant individual/possess a limited intellect/both.

Needmorelego · 19/07/2024 17:02

@Blueyatemyhomework I think she meant 4 hours for her.
@Itsonme67 my daughter is at a SEN school which we taxi too (half an hour journey) and sometimes I don't bother to go home again (slightly longer journey home because I use public transport).
It can be tedious sometimes. The local library is where I sometimes go. Read a few books, surf on my phone, stare out the window....

Based on the language used, the hostility to thr OP is that she "cannot be bothered to take the DC to school"

Thats why people are annoyed

Have you never ever had the feeling of can't be bothered . ?

Odd you have to pick them up considering wonde automaically sends them out via text/email.

Some of us even buy actual fresh food at Aldi...

Me included. I'm just thinking that if she's out the house for 4 hours she can get the store cupboard essentials as a start and to kill some time without worrying about it going off.

Needmorelego · 19/07/2024 17:06

@Itsonme67 confession time.....
I didn't take my daughter to school today. We barely got any sleep (heat + plus neighbour with loud music). Overslept. Fell back asleep accidentally. Woke up at lunchtime which was the hottest part of the day and I just really didn't want to go out in that. So we stayed home.
She missed the "leavers assembly". She's not a leaver !
😂

This was suuuuuch a bad idea @Itsonme67 posting this... its like cannon fodder for the vipers.

I get it... the one day you can safely bunk the kids off school cos they will be doing absolutely bugger all learning... is the day you HAVE to go in to get the vouchers and unlike a full day where you can go home and get stuff done, theres not really enough time to go home, but a bit too much time to hang around..

Get it done though - get the bus in, get the vouchers, flop around town in the heat, do the shop and take the kids home in a taxi. Its worth it for the haul you'll get from Aldi!

Yeah I'm going to . Another poster suggested I drop the kids to school go aldi so I can do it child free. Plus it will be early so not to many people. And cab home.

Or some of us have special needs children, done of us have different struggles. Some of us only sleep 4hrs a night. Etc etc

Some of us have all these things and still work. It's not easy.

InsolentNoise · 19/07/2024 17:07

Itsonme67 · 19/07/2024 16:52

It's still a day of no learning for the child.

This might be true in literal terms. However, in-service days are often used for learning new teaching approaches/pedagogy etc.
They can be really intense tbh!

In the long term, pupils benefit from teachers with better training/increased knowledge etc.

But yes, it can seem like a day of no learning.

Although as the PP said, these days have been taken from teachers’ holidays so historically, learning days have not been reduced.

I do think you’ve had a hard time on here and I wouldn’t want to be trailing in on the last day, either.
As others have suggested, why not go to a café or get some Aldi shopping while you’re there.
Your DD might also have a doctor or dental appointment that morning that might necessitate leaving early for 😉

You sound like you have a lot on your plate. I hope you have an enjoyable summer and pay no attention to some of the nasty comments here. If you’re entitled to fsm for your children during the holidays, then that’s great.
Anything that benefits a child is a good thing, in my book.

(is there any way that you could learn to drive and get a wee car? I know it’s expensive but it would greatly reduce your stress. Sorry, you have probably already thought about it.)

My best wishes to you.

NeverDropYourMooncup · 19/07/2024 17:07

I think I'd find it hard to turn down the prospect of £90/hour myself.

Use the £20 or so that a cab would cost (that you're not having to spend on food now) to make it less of an effort.

It's disheartening to spend ages buying and making up parcels - which is what we do, as our LA gives as little as possible, far less than £90 each, and we can get more from buying in bulk (especially as we then add in extra from the Pupil Premium funding for treats as well as basics) - only to find that the kids who most need them aren't in anyway and the parcels are left sitting in the Pastoral Room until September. Especially when those same kids come back in September having not been fed as well as they should have been.

By the way, my post wasn't a dig, just a statement that some of us have similar issues to you and still have to work. Just a fact.

PhilosophicalCheeseSandwich · 19/07/2024 16:43

For Waitrose vouchers, yes. But Aldi...?

What’s so wrong with Aldi that it’s not worth a bit of inconvenience for £180 of shopping?

Blackcats7 · 19/07/2024 17:09

Passable attempt to smear those reliant on vouchers as lazy.
More inventive than straight forward benefit bashing though so I suppose at least it’s a change of sorts.

Needmorelego · 19/07/2024 17:11

@Boomer55 not really. Giving parents such a small time window to collect the vouchers is a bit of a pain and daft.
Some parents would have to take time off from their ridiculously low paid job to collect the vouchers - which means they lose pay.
The OP sounds tired and fed up. She's just having a moan.

bananasarent · 19/07/2024 17:11

Pumpkindoodles · 19/07/2024 16:50

No one at all wants to do a 2-4 hour school run for 4.5 hours at school where they’re not doing lessons anyway, let’s get down from our high horses.

But.. you're also getting £180 from doing this? I'm well paid and I'd do it!

LordSnot · 19/07/2024 17:12

Illbehistrash · 19/07/2024 16:58

@WiseBiscuit i think this is really really unfair and unkind.

You’re calling someone feckless and lazy but the OP has explained they have a disabled child and have hardly any sleep some nights and wanting the fsm voucher collection to be a bit more flexible , because of a lengthy school run on the shorter than usual last day.

Sometimes people need to just vent ? It doesn’t mean that OP is ungrateful just exhausted I expect ? Maybe you can say something constructive rather than having a go at someone who has a lot to deal with ?

Edited

To be fair, the OP insinuated she has a disabled child and little sleep at night after that post. She's also insinuated her children go to school every day and she doesn't work, giving her several hours to herself and to nap if needed.

Or maybe see it from another perspective that the school is not being flexible enough with the voucher collection times and sometimes when you rely on things like this you get criticised if you speak out about something being inconvenient as if you should just be grateful no matter what yet it can feel like help at a price when you’re exhausted and burnt out.

TomatoSandwiches · 19/07/2024 17:12

Itsonme67 · 19/07/2024 16:43

That's actually a good idea. I could get there early before it's packed . Thank you . Never thought of that

I think this is the best idea. I hope you have a good shop.

TomatoSandwiches · 19/07/2024 17:15

Napping in the day to make up on very poor quality and quantity of sleep during the night doesn't make it up, it isn't restorative sleep in any sense.

No one enjoys an inconvenience even if you are grateful for something at the same time.

People just like to kick others for the bad hand they were dealt.

It was a joke. Obviously doesn't matter what shop it's for, a bit of inconvenience is worth it for £180 worth of food if you're hard up. I don't even have a Waitrose where I live, fwiw.
