I have a new pet hate...

It makes my blood boil when shop assistants scan and just say "359"... 359 what and where are your manners? £3.59 please!!!

Does this annoy anyone else?

Are you being polite and friendly when you approach?

MrsBrightsidde · 18/07/2024 08:31

No, doesn’t annoy me at all. It’s a thankless job where they probably have to deal with all sorts so I don’t expect it at all.

TwixOwl · 18/07/2024 08:31

Oh course! Always with a hello and a smile.
It's just sloppy manners.

Can’t imagine getting worked up about this. So petty. Are you usually like this?

Skinglow · 18/07/2024 08:32

No it doesn't bother me. I barely notice.

ZenNudist · 18/07/2024 08:32

I don't notice but manners cost nothing.

Mostly you just look on the display now.

AGodawfulsmallaffair · 18/07/2024 08:33

No.

TwixOwl · 18/07/2024 08:33

It may be a boring job, but I'm still paying their wages and it's just polite to say "please" and "thank you".
It's just basic manners which appear to have gone out the window in recent generations.

Paying their wages... I'm curious. Are you kind and polite to them?

SquishyGloopyBum · 18/07/2024 08:35

"I pay their wages"

Code for I'm on a power trip and you will respect me you lowly worker......

ilovepixie · 18/07/2024 08:36

I work in a deli and the amount of customers who don't say please or thank you when you hand them their goods is shocking!
People have no manners anymore!

You pay their wages? Ah I missed the bit that it’s your company and you’re talking about your own employee.

🙄

This. OP complaining about no manners but doesn’t see the hypocrisy in her own post.

Fridaysgirl17 · 18/07/2024 08:37

As a former shop assistant there is only so many times you can say please & thank you where you are ignored, grunted at,money thrown at you etc. As shop assistants we are still human & cannot be perfect all the time & last I knew my company I worked for paid my wages not customers 🙄

notacooldad · 18/07/2024 08:38

🤣 😂

I love it when people come out with this tripe, it's almost as good as ' Do you know who I am?'

TwixOwl · 18/07/2024 08:39

I disagree, no customers spending money in the shop means the company can't pay the wages of the staff.
And bad manners will encourage shoppers to go elsewhere.

Agree.

And no you don't pay their wages, ffs 🙄

TimeandMotion · 18/07/2024 08:39

I’ve noticed that in supermarkets the cashiers don’t tend to say the amount at all now. Haven’t for years- took me a while to get used to that.

Of course now human cashiers are a rarity anyway.

ACreamyTeaPlease · 18/07/2024 08:39

I've not noticed this but I really hate the headsets they have to wear in a lot of places where they suddenly start talking and you don't know if it's to you or not.

I'd say you were lucky to even be told the price. So often they just say nothing.

Soooo rude.

TwixOwl · 18/07/2024 08:40

Customers do pay their wages, how do you think they get the money to pay the staff!

This is a disgraceful attitude. If you can't do the job properly, then its not for you. The next person that you decide to be rude to may be perfectly nice. Maybe you need to look at your own manners and work out if thats why people are so rude to you.

HaveAWordWithYerselfWouldYa · 18/07/2024 08:43

You wont win the argument now @TwixOwl - posters will now leap on your Lady Bountiful "I pay your wages" comment.

But yes of course you are correct - a please or thank you should be the very basic level in an interaction

HeddaGarbled · 18/07/2024 08:43

You could argue that you would only say “please” if you were making a request (Please could you give me £3.59?) not whilst making a statement (You owe my employer £3.59).
