I could not understand the mad conspiracies around it. Look at Michael Mosely. Same situation, got lost in the heat and collapsed. But the poor lads life was disected like he was some arch criminal or something.
At least they will have closure. So sad.

Michael Mosley never attacked anyone with a machete…….

BESTAUNTB · 15/07/2024 14:26

MaggieFS · 15/07/2024 14:21

It is ok, and within the realms of average brain capacity, to:

  • be appalled by his criminal activities
  • have hoped he was found safe and well
  • think that some of the decisions that led him going missing were, at best, unwise
  • have sympathy for his family, if it is him

It's not civilised to wish other people dead.

Well said Maggie

So sorry to his family for this awful bloody outcome. My ds was 19 on his first lad's trip last year. The worry is tremendous...
So sad and such a waste...

A waste? I mean, not really. He was charged with cracking someone’s skull open. I think the world will cope without him.

Soubriquet · 15/07/2024 14:29

Hopefully this will give the family closure. Losing a child is bad enough, but not knowing what happened is worse. They can have a funeral now

Haven’t even looked at those pages whatever they are as it really doesn’t interest me. But I can have an opinion just like you, it’s on you if you can’t fathom that people doesn’t have to agree with you or feel the same way.

And my opinion is decent people don't make sarcastic jibes about a dead 19 year old and his family on the day his body is found.

justasking111 · 15/07/2024 14:24

I live in north Wales. People fall off our mountains all the year round. A friend and his dogs are on the rescue team. It's terribly sad for all concerned.

Looks like a Podenco Canario dog who is searching the tight and tricky terrain.

tsundoko · 15/07/2024 14:31

davegrohll · 15/07/2024 13:27

Yup. A bloody circus. I agree with having some closure. They would never have been able to grieve. Hoping one day he would come knocking

Yes that must be the worst. Never having closure and just keep hoping.

LifeonMarss · 15/07/2024 14:32

The world might be able to cope without him but im sure his family wont be able to and all these ridiculous conspiracy theorists have probably done more harm than good to the families grieving process

crumblingschools · 15/07/2024 14:33

For those saying he had turned his life around, was a rave in Tenerife and then going off with 2 men, and wasn't the girl he spoke to a drug mule. Not exactly the best place to go if trying to turn your life away from drugs.

PossumintheHouse · 15/07/2024 14:33

Yep, as predicted. Just ventured into the vast TikTok wilderness and it's already crammed full of conspiracy videos and claims that HE WOZ OBVIOUSLY DUMPED!!!1
What a world we live in.

WetherspoonsSnob · 15/07/2024 14:33

Only takes a few thousand to repatriate remains, there was a similar Tenerife based GFM in 2021 for a missing man where it raised £6k and that included repatriation, so I'm sorry if this seems insensitive but they should really refund the rest of the 53 grand back now to the thousands of donators.

People like you are a blight.

Missm68 · 15/07/2024 14:34

How sad but unfortunately it didn't look good, can't survive in that hot weather( look at Micheal Mosley) hope his family get some closure.

Do adults even use TikTok? I genuinely thought it was for teens.

Sure his poor family but he also appears to be a violent thug himself. Not at all surprised it’s ended this way.

Or donate it to rescuers in Spain. I’m sure it would be a great help with more dogs, drones or people to help search.

It's not going to happen. On a practical level, how do you decide who to refund and whose money to use to cover their expenses? Logistical nightmare.
But anyway, they'll use the money to bring him home and host a (big) funeral, perhaps offer a donation to X charity. The rest... will be discretionary.

BobbyBiscuits · 15/07/2024 13:57

@Goatblower why not? One is posh the other working class? They are two men who passed away when getting lost in a hot unfamiliar country.

I think the machete attack and the suspicious go fund me is what lost a lot of public sympathy.

Completely different to a tv doctor on holiday with his wife, who then didn’t collect £40k from the public?

I don’t think I’ve ever cared less about someone missing/a body being found.

Depends what you mean by 'use'. Post videos? Some adults do. Not me included. But it's surely common to have a scroll? It's not much different to Facebook etc.

His mum has apparently used some of it to bring in her own search team from the Netherlands.

In the circumstances, surely no one expects their money back.

No wonder people feel like the above when this was said at said incident by one of his fellow gang members:

As Mr Hilton turned his face away to try to avoid being struck by the blade, he heard someone screaming: 'Stop it! You're going to kill him!'

He heard his attackers say, 'I don't give a f*. We are going to kill him', as he was struck in the back of the head.

The fearsome weapon struck his head so deeply that his skull was visible.
The 15-year-old Good Samaritan selflessly then pulled one of his attackers away and threw herself over Mr Hilton's body to protect him.
Following her vital intervention, the group walked off, saying: 'He's dead boys'.

Missm68 · 15/07/2024 14:40

a friend of mine suddenly passed away in may( Spain )didn't have travel insurance and cost 7k to take her body back to the UK.
