Pretty much every time a high profile tragedy occurs, there's some kind of fundraising. Which I very much doubt is done without the knowledge and agreement of those set to benefit. The mistake Debbie has made is to address people directly rather than stay in the background and quietly benefit from funds raised from appeals set up by friends.

Everyone has sympathy for his death and for her loss. No one should bury their child.
We can feel sorry for her and feel the crimes he committed were terrible and that some of her actions are wrong.

You don't give a shit about her loss. You all just want to bitch about her. Have a bloody good look at yourselves.

Yes I do.
I am allowed to have two different feelings about someone at the same time.

It's nice to see someone be charitable towards her. I can't believe she's really that bothered about the money - she's lost her beloved son. I'm sure a lot of the £60000 has been accounted for. Nothing has actually been withdrawn yet but they've said it was being used for flights, accommodation, search parties etc so I'm assuming it will be withdrawn for these things soon.
I agree with you that she probably wants to hold a very lavish funeral for Jay because it's the only way she can express her love for him now.

In the most positive sense, she really doesn't need £60,000 to express her love for her son though.

It is a huge cost to repatriate a body and funerals are not cheap.

Yes, been there! Travel insurance pays out for repatriation….

Noone needs to spend £60,000 or anywhere near to show their love for their child. A ridiculous expectation, if that is what we are expected to do to ‘show our love’ .

You could say similar about every family beset by high profile tragedy though, couldn't you? Google pretty much any highly publicised case you can think of and there'll be a fund raiser to 'support the family' What do those people need that money for? I'm not a fan of go fund me, but singling out this woman to criticise smacks to me of an excuse to 'legitimately' judge a woman people have been dying to have a go at from the start because she's 'raised a wrong 'un'.

He didn’t have travel insurance, at least read up on it before attacking.

Massively agree

She really doesn't need £60,000 to express her love for her son... she needs £70,000 or even more in order to do that. /s

Well that was massively irresponsible. If you decide to go abroad without travel insurance, you/your family can't really expect sympathy and money to cover costs that you should have been insured for.

Derbee · 19/07/2024 12:07

I can’t believe people are STILL donating to these scallies! Over £60k and she still wants more. Unbelievable that people are still handing over money.

I don’t think they’re being unfairly singled out as yes other families use gofundme but I think the difference is the high amounts they’ve been asking for right from the outset.

There’s a woman whose son has gone missing in Spain or something like that recently and she’s started a gofundme for 5,000.

Other people tend to ask for much more modest sums and also know when to stop. She should really thank people and close it down at this point.

That was my point…the rest of us pay for travel insurance, rather than beg to others to make up for our risk taking!

It's a huge cost to repatriate a body but it doesn't cost tens of thousands
(Homeland International, £3-4.5k) and she could always ask the Jack The Lad Foundation for a grant if she can't afford it- it specialises in advice and financial assistance for repatriation of young people (aged 16 to 30) who have died as a result of an accident overseas.

Funerals are never cheap and we're in a cost of living crisis but inflation hasn't been that bad for the best part of £60,000 not to be even nearly enough for a considerably decent send off.
(Average funeral cost £4,000)

GFM is at £66,242 atm

Tracker1234 · 19/07/2024 15:36

This women needs to quietly go away and grieve in peace. Instead she has chosen to put her hand out for more money. This young lad was not on a great path and a villian. He also didnt have any travel insurance - what is wrong with people? Do they think 'someone' else will pick up their bills - oh wait..

I have just arranged a funeral. £6k will be more than enough unless they want some big booze up with 100's of people and a free bar.

One of my facebook friends suddenly passed away and had no insurance but it cost around 7k to bring her back home plus funeral on top.

Skinglow · 19/07/2024 15:42

How can she grieve in peace while threads like this on here and other places on the internet spring up all the time?

You don't want her to grieve in peace really, because then you would have to stop bitching about her. Until the next tragedy comes along for you all to get excited over anyway.

Tracker1234 · 19/07/2024 15:47

She can grieve in peace by not asking for more money and making statements.

Tracker1234 · 19/07/2024 15:48

It’s insane not to have health cover - It doesn’t cost much for young healthy people, either- but they do exclude anything drink or drug related. ( We used Dogtag for DS) Anyone going to North America is strongly advised to get insurance as it’s so expensive otherwise and they won’t treat you without insurance documents or funds up front.

WetherspoonsSnob · 19/07/2024 16:14

Well, I'm heavily intrigued to see what this funeral will look like for one... 🤔

Getonwitit · 19/07/2024 16:15

His mother asks for more money for the funeral Jay deserves. The man was a criminal who battered a guy with a weapon, he wasn't defending himself, he was with a mob that went looking for a fight. He was a thief and downright dishonest. He deserves nothing and the begging bowl needs to be put away. She needs to have him cremated in Tenerife and then she can bring his ashes home. The family need to stop trying to convince the public he was a cheeky chappy, he was a thug.

I've had travel insurance with my bank for about 15 years now, and I must admit that if I changed banks I'd probably forget to get separate insurance.

Hot tip for anyone hiring a car - you can get global hire car excess cover for a pittance compared to the hiring company.
