Missed speed awareness course

I missed my speed awareness course by accident. Can I rebook it? Will I have to pay again? Anyone else done this? Thanks.

How did you miss it?

I don't know for sure, but I doubt very much they'll let you book it. You'll probably get the fine & points. Definitely worth emailing & trying to plead your case, though other than something like your child being taken in hospital on that day or you being in an accident etc will be 'good enough'

The venue I was supposed to attend was a local golf course and for some reason I had it in my head that it was the other local golf course and drove there and then did not have time to get to the other venue, as I would have been ten minutes late and it states not to attend late.

That won't cut it. You should have checked the details more thoroughly. You will have to pay the fine, get the points and you may get an extra penalty for no show.

OldTinHat · 13/07/2024 10:02

Not sure if this helps, but I was booked on an online speed awareness course last year. On the day, I couldn't get my headphones and mic to work and I was told they'd give me a couple of minutes to fix it and, if I couldn't, I'd have to pay to attend another one.

That's similar to my BIL but in his case a number of them were having issues logging in that day so the session got postponed by the provider and he didn't have to pay again. But in your case and BIL the person was trying to attend the session so not quite so serious as not turning up.

Was it today? The longer you leave it without making contact the less chance you have or being able to book something else. As I understand it you can book with any police force and you can do it online so no need to actually go anywhere.

NigelHarmansNewWife · 13/07/2024 10:12

I would at least have tried to get to the correct venue, but that's not helpful.

And what did they say when you called to let them know?

You just sacked it off because you'd be 10 minutes late?

Jeez

Longma · 13/07/2024 10:28

You may just have to accept the points and fine, and lose the course fee too. I don't know if there are additional penalties for not showing up.

Tbh in your position I would have shown up,late and explained. It would then at least have shown willing and increased your chances of being able to rebook the course.

Or at least phoned them at the time and asked what to do next re lateness/absence.

When was the course?

I suspect that they won't take that now.
If you'd driven across straight away and apologised, then I'd have said you stood some chance, but not if you just didn't turn up.

labsarelife · 13/07/2024 10:36

I tried phoning the contact number but it’s Mon-Fri office hours only. I did not attend late because it specifically stated, late attendees will not be admitted.
If the venue had not been local to me, I would have just popped in the postcode but for some bizarre reason, I just had it in my head, that it was the other local golf course.
People make mistakes; it was a genuine mistake on my part and I admit that. It’s unlike me. I don’t want to be reprimanded on here. I want an answer to my question from any others who perhaps have accidentally done the same.
If it’s a fine and points, then fine - I will readily accept that. It’s just that I can’t find any solid info online as to the repercussions of missing a speed awareness course.

Why on earth would you sack it off for 10 minutes late? No lateness stated is to stop people turning up halfway through with a crap excuse..10 minutes everyone would still be getting settled and coffee...

labsarelife · 13/07/2024 10:38

It specifically stated in my email confirmation to not attend late or admittance would not be allowed. Conversely, in the same email, it did not confirm the venue location or address, which is why I did not realise I was going to the wrong venue when I read through the email this morning.

It was this morning. Phone number I called was office hours only Mon-Fri. Could drop an email but I will likely be able to contact them sooner if I call first thing Monday.

Yes because it specifically stated to not attend if you were late as admittance would be refused.

Or, you could have moved on to number 2 of the most ridiculous things - in your inflated opinion - on the internet today. Nobody needs to comment, the world will still turn.

OP, I've never missed a speed awareness course but you might have got away with 10 minutes. Never mind, that's done - get in touch with the course provider and see what your options are. The sooner the better if you want to still be able to do a course.

Can you go back to the website you used to book it initially, with the reference number, and see if it will let you rebook. There would normally be an FAQ inline to tell you what to do in such circumstances.

In case you didn't see this, OP, it's really helpful, I didn't know about it.
