Missed speed awareness course

I missed my speed awareness course by accident. Can I rebook it? Will I have to pay again? Anyone else done this? Thanks.

I have been on but it won’t let me rebook as it does not yet know that I gif not attend this morning’s course.

Online comments suggest it should normally let you rebook beforehand and afterwards I think, so try again later. It may well mean paying again.

If it's outside of the rebooking period, then you may be eligible to pay the fine and take the points.

If both of these time periods of passed it will be passed to the police and/or courts I think.

CremeEggThief · 13/07/2024 10:51

You should have to pay again as it was all your own fault! 🙄

Allthegoodnamesaregone1 · 13/07/2024 10:15

And what did they say when you called to let them know?

Phone line was office hours only Monday-Friday. I really don’t think missing a speed awareness course is the most ridiculous thing you’ll read on the internet but if that’s your opinion, that’s your opinion. Everyone makes mistakes. If you can’t contribute any useful info, please just don’t contribute to the chat.

This is making me laugh so much. It’s a speed awareness course and you were not allowed to be late. Do you think it was a test?

I know you are probably not in the mood for joking and hope you get sorted though. Good luck.

Elisheva · 13/07/2024 10:54

Are you still within the time limit for taking the course?

DancingWithYouInTheSummerRain · 13/07/2024 10:54

Where I reside if you miss a Speed Awareness Course for any reason, the Police proceed with Court Proceedings, so be ready for receiving Single Justice Procedure Notice.

If/when you receive it ensure that you complete the paperwork in full, including your reasons for missing the course, and make sure it is returned to the Court on time, any late response may not be considered or may require you to attend a hearing.

On some occasions the Court may look favourable on reasons for missing a course and apply a sentence equating to a Fixed Penalty (fine equalling a fixed penalty/points), however if I'm honest going to the incorrect venue may not be looked on as favourable, and not attending at all less so....I know it's not positive, but just want you to have an insight as to what could occur.

Good luck, hope you get sorted!

You can laugh but I left home early to give myself half-an hour to wait for the course. I hit a standstill line of traffic trying to get to it. You can bet that I put my foot down. The irony was not lost on me either. I got there just in time but only just.

WetBandits · 13/07/2024 10:59

I cannot fathom why you wouldn’t have just gone anyway, explained your mistake and apologised? The course instructors are human too, and I bet they would have let you in. Wouldn’t be surprised if they don’t let you do the course at all now and you’ll have to suck up the fine and points.

I will have to find out on Monday. I’m not arguing about the fact that I may have to take points instead. I just wondered if anyone else had been as stupid as me to miss their course and knew what the course of action was.

It specifically stated in my email confirmation to not attend late or admittance would not be allowed. Conversely, in the same email, it did not confirm the venue location or address, which is why I did not realise I was going to the wrong venue when I read through the email this morning.

Sorry but I don't understand this. Surely you had some notification as to where the venue was so why didn't you make a note of it in your calendar at the time and set a reminder like you would do for any other appointment I presume? Saying went to the wrong place is just a lame excuse. Take the points and the fine.

I had the venue and time clearly written on my calendar. At some point between noting it down and today, I had switched the venue in my head to the golf course I was more familiar with. Why? I just do not know. I’m human and I make silly mistakes occasionally.

I missed mine because I was doing it online and a fire alarm went off in the building I was in and we had to vacate it! I was within the time limit so re-booked. They could hear the fire alarm and when I called to explain they refunded me that course. I don't think you'll get a refund as you should have checked the location, but expect you can just re book as long as you're in the time limit. And you are correct, that anyone who turns up late isn't allowed in. Just do it online!

We are rural with dreadful internet connection, which is why I opted to do it in person. Sorry to hear about your experience. How annoying for you.

Since you were out anyway and it would only be 10mins I think it’s pretty ridiculous to just go home rather than just try and get there. At least then you’d have a case to plead if they didn’t let you join that the trainer would know you tried to attend.

Right now they don’t really have any proof you tried to attend at all. I reckon you’ll probably automatically get the points & fine.

LyingWitchInTheWardrobe · 13/07/2024 11:08

labsarelife I would put it out of your head for now, there's nothing you can do about it until Monday. It's annoying, I know, but it's just a blip and you'll sort it out on Monday and do whatever you need to. Brew

I think mixing up the venues is an easy mistake but not trying to get to the correct venue when you realised your error was a bad choice.

AdviceNeeded2024 · 13/07/2024 11:10

This happened to me a couple of years ago. Had an online course booked for Friday afternoon. Got busy dealing with something at work, got home late and completely forgot about it so ended up missing it.
I was still within the time limit to take the speed awareness course so was able to re-book online, although I don’t think I could re-book until the following day.

I had to pay for both courses. It was not mentioned to me about missing the previous one, as long as you take the course in the time limit it should be fine.

AdviceNeeded2024 · 13/07/2024 11:11

I’m happy to pay again or accept points. Just want to know which it will be.

I did one of these courses last year. On the documentation it stated that if you miss the course you DO have to rebook and pay for it again. If you miss the time limit (which was reasonably generous - 3 months I think) you would have to pay the fine/get points on your licence. Hope you have time to rebook and attend OP.

Thank you! This is exactly the kind of response I was looking for. I admit my mistake and I accept that I may have to pay again or indeed take the points but I just wanted a reply from someone else who’d accidentally made the same mistake.
Other people commenting, do not know my personal circumstances or what I’ve been dealing with these part few weeks and whilst I would never use that to defend myself, all I will say is that life can get extremely busy and difficult at times and it can lead to humans making errors. It’s called ‘human error!’ 😂
I will try and rebook it tmrw and if I’m not within the timeframe, I’ll just accept the points and whatever else they want to throw at me.
You’d think no one else on here ever made a mistake or overlooked anything in their lives. Thank you for admitting you did the same as me!
Thought I was the only person ever to have missed a speed awareness course….
