Missed speed awareness course

I missed my speed awareness course by accident. Can I rebook it? Will I have to pay again? Anyone else done this? Thanks.

Blimey so,e of the replies are ridiculous. Some posters are so snide and pompous.

OP, I don't know the answer but it's the type of dumb mistake I could make. I don't suppose you are dyslexic.

Hopefully you are still within the time where you can rebook the course.

This is making me laugh so much. It’s a speed awareness course and you were not allowed to be late. Do you think it was a test?

I know you are probably not in the mood for joking and hope you get sorted though. Good luck.

You did make me laugh. I couldn’t speed to it anyway even if I did attempt to go late as I was driving my daughter’s car with black box and I don’t speed any more since being caught……

I did a speed awareness course recently. They said if someone misses it they can rebook but you need to contact them quickly. I’m not sure if you have to pay but you won’t pay a fine or get extra points as someone said above.

Where I reside if you miss a Speed Awareness Course for any reason, the Police proceed with Court Proceedings, so be ready for receiving Single Justice Procedure Notice.

If/when you receive it ensure that you complete the paperwork in full, including your reasons for missing the course, and make sure it is returned to the Court on time, any late response may not be considered or may require you to attend a hearing.

On some occasions the Court may look favourable on reasons for missing a course and apply a sentence equating to a Fixed Penalty (fine equalling a fixed penalty/points), however if I'm honest going to the incorrect venue may not be looked on as favourable, and not attending at all less so....I know it's not positive, but just want you to have an insight as to what could occur.

Good luck, hope you get sorted!

Thanks for the info. That’s all fair enough I suppose. I’m happy to admit what I did. It was a mistake and I have no real excuse for making it. I just simply had the wrong venue lodged in my brain for some reason. Had it not been local, I’d have just followed the sat nav.

The sanctimony on these threads is always nauseating.

Hope you can get it sorted when you phone them OP. I can easily imagine doing the same thing myself.

AdviceNeeded2024 · 13/07/2024 11:27

@labsarelife No problem glad I can put your mind at rest, I know I felt a bit uneasy not knowing what would happen next but it will be fine.

Agree about some of the previous posts, life happens, mistakes happen it’s just one of those things. I doubt everyone is that perfect all of the time!

Roryhon · 13/07/2024 11:29

I missed one once as a flight home prior to it was delayed three days, and they let me do a different one, but I did let them know the day before.

I think in your shoes I’d have gone - even if they didn’t let you join the course at least you could have explained and it would be noted that you did actually go, it wasn’t just a no show.

JokoKitten · 13/07/2024 11:32

@DancingWithYouInTheSummerRain

Where do you live? I don't think it's helpful to give irrelevant information to the OP.

Thank you for being kind. I’m not dyslexic but I have M.E. and suffer with huge fatigue and brain fog. My specialist likens the brain fog to early stage dementia , so yes there is a reason as to why I get muddled up sometimes as my thinking lacks clarity and I do not retain or process information well. I lost my teaching career to the illness so it’s no joke.
Obviously I didn’t want to mention that as people will say I’m making excuses.
Whatever the reason, I made a mistake and I hold my hands up. I’m not trying to weedle out of it or avoid penalty points or paying again. I just wanted to know what the consequence would be.

Aren’t people awful at times? I’m after info, not a character assassination 😂

Why on earth would you sack it off for 10 minutes late? No lateness stated is to stop people turning up halfway through with a crap excuse..10 minutes everyone would still be getting settled and coffee...

Edited

I've attended 3 of them - they are very very strict. They wont even allow you in the door if late and they wont allow you to use your mobile phones, you have to turn them off.

OP- ring them first thing Monday, explain what happened and express willingness to attend and learn. Admit total responsibility and apologise. They like that. I suspect they'll be able to book you on another one but not sure if you'll have to pay again.

Doyoumind · 13/07/2024 11:35

It was a strange decision not to go to the actual venue and just be 10 minutes late. The reason they appear so strict about times is because people will always be late. There will be a little leeway, which will be down to the person running it on the day. You would probably have got away with it.

LateDecemberLove · 13/07/2024 11:37

I think your best bet is waiting til Monday and pleading your case, the worst they'll say is you can't rebook so it's worth a try.

I think the harsh replies are because most people probably would have gone anyway even if that meant you weren't allowed in as at least they would have seen you and I think that would have gone in your favour for being able to rebook if they didnt allow you in. When I did mine it was online but the first 10 mins were people still confirming their identity so the course hadn't even started yet.

I wouldn't have been so hung up on the "it said don't attend late" especially for 10 minutes.
Good luck I hope they let you rebook.

PuffedWheat · 13/07/2024 11:37

Just to add, I missed one in 2020, it was booked for 9am and I realised at 2pm the same day that I was meant to be doing something that day … not my finest hour.

I had to call to rebook; they asked the reason I missed it and I told them I completely forgot - no issues on their side. I had to pay again to rebook and managed to remember to go to that one.

No drama, no fine, no extra points; these things happen.

AdviceNeeded2024 · 13/07/2024 11:38

@labsarelife You don’t have to justify anything to anyone on here. You made a mistake, this happens, you won’t be the first to make it (I did it before you!) and you certainly won’t be the last.

Ignore the previous unhelpful posts! You’ve come to ask for others experience of this so any replies should only be in response to what you’ve asked. I don’t understand why some people have to pile on and ‘tell off’ a poster, instead of giving information in response to what they’re asking 🤷‍♀️

Sounds tough OP.

I don't even have that excuse, I'm just a Muppet sometimes. My daughter pointed out recently that our flight leaves two hours before the end of my shift at work 😳 Whoops!

LightSpeeds · 13/07/2024 11:41

That sucks!

Hopefully you'll be able to rebook 🤞🏻

Thank you. It was clear that they would not admit late attendees. I totally admit I’m in the wrong and it was a ridiculous oversight and I will take whatever consequences are dolled out but I just wanted to know what they are, instead of worrying all weekend I suppose.

Since you were out anyway and it would only be 10mins I think it’s pretty ridiculous to just go home rather than just try and get there. At least then you’d have a case to plead if they didn’t let you join that the trainer would know you tried to attend.

Right now they don’t really have any proof you tried to attend at all. I reckon you’ll probably automatically get the points & fine.

I thought it would be ever worse and cause more interruption, to turn up late when it specifically stated not to. Two misdemeanours then! One going to the wrong venue and two, turning up late when asked not to. You understand that reasoning, surely? It’s actually more logical than your reasoning in my opinion.

OP posts:
HideousKinky · 13/07/2024 11:50

10 minutes would have been fine - it takes them that long to check everyone's ID and get everyone sitting down & ready to start. They just don't want people wandering in after half an hour when they've actually started the session

Phone line was office hours only Monday-Friday. I really don’t think missing a speed awareness course is the most ridiculous thing you’ll read on the internet but if that’s your opinion, that’s your opinion. Everyone makes mistakes. If you can’t contribute any useful info, please just don’t contribute to the chat.

Could you have called the venue and asked them to pass on a message?

Sorry, just realised this will be tagged for the wrong poster. Clearly I meant it for the OP .

Someone else on here had the opposite experience when arriving late and was turned away. Two misdemeanours then - 1, turning up at the wrong venue and 2, interrupting everything by turning up late when asked not to. Can’t win.

I don’t think the golf course employees would really want to be taking calls from idiot people who have missed their speed awareness course and having to pass on messages to people who aren’t their own staff members etc. So that’s why I chose not to.

Yes because it specifically stated to not attend if you were late as admittance would be refused.

Maybe but at least you would have turned up to it.
