What’s your work doing with regards to the football?

Just heard on the radio some work places are closing early on Sunday to let their employees get ready for the game, some are opening later to let their employees recover.

what’s your work doing?

Mines doing nothing and made it clear anyone not coming in will be in big trouble, I feel short changed, like everyone is celebrating this event and not us!

Well we can't close or adapt. So that's that, we have to accept it

RuthW · 12/07/2024 12:10

I think it's disgusting Tesco shut for football but not Christmas Day and Good Friday.

My work is closed anyway on Sunday but would be carrying on as normal if it wasn't.

supermamio · 12/07/2024 12:13

My work is letting people do their sunday shift earlier if they wish and come in later on the monday.

MargaretThursday · 12/07/2024 12:15

Tesco's shut Christmas day and Boxing day is the biggest day of the year for supermarkets apparently. I don't think that's comparable.

LottieMary · 12/07/2024 12:17

It’s not about football it’s about drinking. ‘Recovery’ is utterly ludicrous

shootingstar1 · 12/07/2024 12:36

What a load of nonsense . I don't get time off to watch the sport I enjoy when my favoured team reach a final etc.

I didn't get an early finish to attend a dear neighbours funeral without taking leave. So I don't agree that the whole of England get to scoot off early to watch men playing a game .

TakeOnFlea · 12/07/2024 12:41

"Well we can't close or adapt. So that's that, we have to accept it"

Oh give over 🤣 they'll be banged up by kick off so most staff will be home.

Of course we can adapt! I remember giving them all a telly and bringing bang up forward to 6pm on several occasions. Happy days

supermamio · 12/07/2024 14:59

Our school is also letting kids start any time up until 10am without a late mark penalty.

Greenleavesinthesun · 12/07/2024 17:47

I’m jealous 😭

We've been given a half day on Monday. Feel a LEETLE hypocritical, as I'm Scottish 🤣😂

MrsStottlemeyer · 12/07/2024 18:05

What does getting ready for the game involve?

AllProperTeaIsTheft · 12/07/2024 18:06

My school is opening at normal time. Tbh it never would have occurred to me that workplaces would open late. It's ridiculous imo. Watch the match (if you want), have a few beers, then don't be a wuss and go into work as normal. That's what I'll be doing. It's a bloody football match, not a once-in-a-lifetime event!

RichardMarxisinnocent · 12/07/2024 18:11

I don't work Sundays, but given that my employer is an NHS hospital I am going to hazard a guess that those who are working on Sunday will be working as normal. I assume all of us will also be working as normal on Monday as it's far too late for the level of care and services, and rotas to be changed to bank holiday ones.

vodkaredbullgirl · 12/07/2024 18:13

Like any other day, care doesn't stop.

hanahsaunt · 12/07/2024 18:15

Nothing. Why would we? Do we get time off every time a British person wins Olympic gold? No. Wimbledon? No. Doing something actually meaningful? No. It's utterly ridiculous a football game should have such attention.

Cheersmedears123 · 12/07/2024 18:16

Just a normal Monday morning for us. I’m a big football fan (as is my boss) but I don’t see why we would start later.

DinnaeFashYersel · 12/07/2024 18:17

We are giving ever a late start on Monday

UghFletcher · 12/07/2024 18:18

We're not open Sunday but I've told my team unless they booked Monday off before 5pm today I'm not accepting anyone calling in sick on Monday 😬

olympicsrock · 12/07/2024 18:19

Nothing . The NHS doesn’t stop for bank holidays, coronations , football etc

DinnaeFashYersel · 12/07/2024 18:19

I don't get all the anger.

FrippEnos · 12/07/2024 18:20

Nothing, we are a 365/24/7 unit.

Sunshineandrainbow · 12/07/2024 18:22

DinnaeFashYersel · 12/07/2024 18:17

Love this idea...

blacksax · 12/07/2024 18:24

Strewth. It's a load of ludicrously overpaid men kicking a ball around for a bit.

People need to get a fucking grip.

Hoppinggreen · 12/07/2024 18:25

Why would anywhere have to open later on Monday, won't it be finished around 10?

MooseAndSquirrelLoveFlannel · 12/07/2024 18:27

It's just a football game. Lots of employees will still be working, such as my husband. Or do you think we don't need the police on Sunday because some blokes are kicking a ball around??
