Being a Republican is no guarantee of rational behaviour. As many of us have noticed.

The interview with the BBC (Mark Mardell I think) is extraordinary. Terrible failure of security when members of the audience are pointing out a (then) possible shooter.

So much will rest on how Trump reacts to this - whether he can bring himself to call for a de-escalation in violent rhetoric and rejects attempts to point the finger at the Democrats/Biden.

I can see him "ordering" a storming of the barricades. Or people preparing for that and a(nother) accident inflaming things further.

Probably not an afternoon to watch films with titles like "Mississippi Burning" or "Apocalypse Now".

pointythings · 14/07/2024 10:08

I think the convention is that if someone has ever held the title, they are referred to as that, but I could be wrong.

Yep convention. Good to hear that Biden had called Trump re the incident.

On a different matter I would recommend listening to LBC Lewis Goodall interview with Connor Burns. (just beside 11). He pulls no punches when discussing Truss. " I don't think she's actually well. Those close to her are letting her down. She is preposterous, she is toxic and needs to be quiet.'
Absolutely scathing.

Just suggesting to the Internets that Trump divorce Melania and marries Truss.

DuncinToffee · 14/07/2024 11:20

Truss' behaviour is worrying tbh and she does have young children

BestIsWest · 14/07/2024 11:29

Did I read that Sue Gray has proposed changes to dining in the HOC and also access to the bar? I swear I read that access to the bar was to be allowed only to MPs of 10 years standing but can’t see anything on it now.

The Trump stuff is horrible and X is an awful place today.

Notonthestairs · 14/07/2024 11:44

@SerendipityJane that's exactly my concern now. They need Statesmanship rather political gamesmanship.

BIossomtoes · 14/07/2024 11:46

The subsidy should be removed entirely and MPs’ expenses should be subject to the same rules as the rest of the population. What other employment allows meals taken at the normal place of work to be claimed on expenses? Thanks for the link Duncin, it’s a real eye opener.

BestIsWest · 14/07/2024 11:49

And why is Farage all over the BBC and Sky. Ugh.

BIossomtoes · 14/07/2024 11:50

Farage was unbelievable on Laura K, obviously it’s all about him.

mibbelucieachwell · 14/07/2024 12:00

I laughed when Laura asked the CEO of Octopus Energy if the government plans for bringing down the cost of energy would work and he replied very fulsomely and in great detail that they absolutely could work. Especially for Scotland @prettybird - he was making your point about the unfairness of charges in Scotland. This comes with the caveat that the government enacts his recommendations though. LK must have been gutted to end on such a positive note for the government Grin

Yes she is showing signs of paranoia that's beyond the normal level we all experience.

Hopefully she has the right people around her that can support her when she's able to see she needs it.

Place marking with a cat in a bag.

I'm a bit overwelmed with life at the moment so not posting much. But still here.

That's adorable! One of mine is a bag fiend too (and none of them give a hoot about boxes).

Nothing you or I can do about it. It's terrible people have died.

really hope situation in America doesn’t escalate, dreadful.

Obviously I am not a Trump fan, but bloody hell this image is an absolute gift to his campaign.

Apparently someone is dead. possibly the shooter.

That's a photo shopped picture if ever I saw one. Thankfully Trump was unharmed and my sympathy lies with those who were killed and injured.

Trump will not repeal gun use.

No surprise at all, no reason to think it's unbelievable. It's always been about him, nobody else matters.

I am not so sure it is photoshopped. It is one of a series the photographer took in the aftermath?

WTF? Keir Starmer describing Trump as 'President Trump' in his twitter feed. 😱

Edited

Presidents keep the title. It’s convention. Look up articles about any ex-President. They are called President for ever. I know this from watching The West Wing but I’ve noticed it ever since. (As I can see a few people have suggested).

Me too. It's all the aftermath of falling over my own feet. Shattered shoulder, surgery, intensive physio for 12-18 months. Now developed Complex Regional Pain Syndrome as a complication of the break, for which the medication is horrendous. And I've just found out that underlying it all is osteoporosis, at just 52.

If I were a cat in a bag I'd have been put out of my misery by now.

Noted upthread - hadn't realised this convention - thanks.

Still thinks it looks really odd though 😁
