Yes, lame but the last thread was nearly full.

The old adage about being equipped to fight the last war applies to counter terror as well.

Islamic terrorism is so last year compared to the rise of white supremacist misogyny.

Previous governments (looks at Tony Blair and chums) haven't helped by ensuring "terrorism" is as useless as "anti semitism" or "racism" in a grown up discussion.

BestIsWest · 23/07/2024 10:20

Funnily enough DH said the same and he voted against! He became an ardent remainer though.

Someone should tell him you're not allowed to change your mind on this subject 😆

Zonder · 23/07/2024 10:29

I've always found our Prevent training pretty balanced. Our boss is Muslim and would be right on it if it was too skewed towards Muslims.

Piggywaspushed · 23/07/2024 10:36

I don't think much can be done about national Prevent Strategy materials though or the things that meet the threshold for reporting.

Piggywaspushed · 23/07/2024 10:37

I have it hidden.. are the feminist boards picking up on this story? It should be big news today.

Saucery · 23/07/2024 10:41

I fondly remember one of my earliest Prevent training sessions, where we were blithely informed that “Animal Rights” was on the list. I said my anti-hunting stance wasn’t a secret and I’d appreciate some more info on whether I’d be sacked/dragged away in the middle of the night. Grin

Piggywaspushed · 23/07/2024 10:42

Just wandered in there - it is a thread for anyone interested. It's in the sex and gender bit which is probably the wrong place (but best for traffic) . A few posters have tried to steer the debate to certain issues but otherwise it's going well.

We had similar jovial conversations about Corbyn and CND and Greenpeace. But the joviality somewhat undermined what should have been serious, really... (I am sure there were men there who thought a bit of 'light sexism' was funny ,too...)

It was a bit problematical when OFSTED came that large numbers of staff said they couldn't recall having any safeguarding or Prevent training.

IClaudine · 23/07/2024 10:59

Braverman is sitting in for JO'B on LBC.🤮🤮🤮

As I said, "terrorism" has become such a vague word it's useless in grown up company.

I retired 2 years ago but all the Prevent training sessions focused on a broad range including young white men - I distinctly remember the trainer saying that the police were very worried about the direction of travel. The training was done inhouse by a member of staff who attended Prevent strategy meeings held (I think) jointly with council and police input

Well that's why you get certificates now.

OFSTED wanted to know if people actually remembered it....

I must say I don't trust Braverman , Cates- or tbh to a lesser extend Duffield- as far as I can throw them on their reasoning or motivations about the 2 child benefit cap but the thread in feminism on it ( especially given the OP cites Duffield) is one of the most revealingly unfeminist , or even anti feminist, threads you could read. I guess there's no rule about who posts on the thread but it really does beautifully reveal why feminism is often said to be white, Middle class and condescending .

And there is some lovely single mother blaming going on on several threads across various boards.

Piggywaspushed · 23/07/2024 13:38

Bibby Stockholm to close down in January.

It's a fun one isn't it. Mind you a lot of threads on there don't really go in the direction you'd expect. There's quite a lot of Trump loving on my Meghan Murphy thread too. Its giving me flashbacks to June!

Piggywaspushed · 23/07/2024 13:49

Just reading that - haven't heard of her before, must admit.

CassieMaddox · 23/07/2024 14:13

In positive news Cates is now irrelevant! 🙌

Piggywaspushed · 23/07/2024 14:28

I know! I keep forgetting.

Back to dodgy food banks for her

I've mused that it should perhaps be kept on short term as a prison ship to ease the prison accommodation crisis.

But it probably wouldn't meet minimum decency requirements....

So glad to hear this! KS acting quickly.

countrygirl99 · 23/07/2024 17:24

For a party that allegedly had no plan they've come up with a few actions very quickly.

DuncinToffee · 23/07/2024 18:09

The three new Deputy Speakers just elected are:

  • Tory MP Nus Ghani
  • Tory MP Caroline Nokes
  • Labour MP Judith Cummins
