Does she think this does her any favours? She sounds like a right nasty B*tch

Two Question Times into the new parliament and I am still feeling like the grown ups are allowed out again. Even the Tories sound more sensible. And then you get glimpses of the horrors of Badenoch and Braverman and you remember what a different world view they have.

🚨 NEW: Shadow Health Secretary Victoria Atkins stands up at the dispatch box to shout at Environment Secretary Steve Reed while he is still speaking

Speaker: "The right honourable lady has behaved abominably"

Atkins behaving with dignity in defeat.

It's not just Truss not coping very well.

But remember a Parliamentary convention is SO important to the Conservatives.

Wow! They're like spoiled children who didn't get to win all the party games.

Notonthestairs · 19/07/2024 21:17

Listening to the Lewis Goodall's interview of Harriet Harman.

It's SO good. Not because she's a Labour peer. But because her experience in politics has spanned decades.

She has so many extraordinary anecdotes of the terrible treatment of women in politics - by both Labour and Conservatives male politicians.

The fuckwit Labour whip that told the press she had to be paired because she was suffering with mastitis is utterly infuriating.

Really worth listening to regardless of party politics.

"Wow! They're like spoiled children who didn't get to win all the party games."

Must admit I was very surprised at Atkins - utterly graceless and treading all over Parliamentary convention. V poor.

Has Starmer not sorted out the cheap refreshments in Parliament?

What is he waiting for?

Fucking hell.

The Tory's have gone from bad to worse since losing.

I would have thought with the polos g the past few years they have had a chance to practice losing graciously

Wowser. Badenoch hasn't got a fucking clue- her party lost, grow up and get on with the job like an adult. Such a sore loser.

Truss is just nuts in my unprofessional opinion. She's an irrelevance who needs to go and get well.

Atkins ha no grace or dignity.

Farage is just a shit stirrer who never let's facts get in the way.

Thank fuck they are now a minority opposition and can do no more harm.

Dd accidentally pinched a copy of 1984 from our holiday home earlier in the year, she'd borrowed it to read on the beach and forgot to return it when we left. We did leave some of ours though, so I don't feel too bad.Grin

This is how they show their suitability to be next Tory leader? What they all need is a suitable course of treatment by a vet. Repellent, venomous bunch and shame on anyone that votes for any of them. Anyone old enough to remember when Norman Tebbitt MP was described as resembling a 'semi house-trained polecat'? Polite by comparison.

BestIsWest · 20/07/2024 11:23

That clip of Badenoch is horrible, patronising and bullying. I’m sure Angela Rayner is well up to it but how on earth does Badenoch think it’s appropriate?

Ive been impressed at the way Sunak has conducted himself over the last two weeks, it’s a shame that Badenoch and Atkins haven’t followed his lead.

DuncinToffee · 20/07/2024 11:27

Another reason why Sunak thought 'ah sod it'?

EXCLUSIVE: Teachers and NHS workers should get 5.5% pay rises, independent pay review bodies suggest

Move would cost £3.5billion and create a headache for Rachel Reeves ahead of first budget, which is now expected in October
If Reeves and Starmer reject recommendations they face risk of industrial action from unions
Pay review body advice reflects similar pay rises in the private sector.

There are already significant issues with both retention and recruitment, particularly for teachers Starmer and Reeves to make a decision in the next fortnight before Parliament rises

That's point isn't it - that somehow she seems to think it's appropriate to behave that way.

And that's what bitters me - that what the Torys allowed politics to become. What they think is important over governing effectively.

I just hope the grown ups who are now in charge continue to ignore and allow them to hang themselves and show themselves up for what they are.

Absolutely this.

I hope Labour focus on what they can do and don't drop to bitching like Badenoch.

newnamethanks · 20/07/2024 12:12

Bitterness, bitching and bile is all the Nasty rump of Tories have left. Nobody is interested in anything they may have that might resemble a policy, so savage unpleasant rhetoric will keep them in the news as they've nothing else to offer. I'm surprised they haven't gone for the 'we won, the election was a fix' line. They are definitely mad enough for giving it a try.

So two former prime ministers and a man who eventually got a seat in parliament turned up at the conference, managed to wangle giving a speech to three people and their dog, and didn't get any selfies with anyone of consequence.

Makes the UK look a bit pathetic.

I’ve just listened to the Harriet Harman interview too, marvellous stuff. I welled up at the end when Lewis Goodall was summing up. I second his recommendation of her autobiography too.

I don't think one can over-estimate the importance of this. A similar approach to public sector workers - might mean that strikes are avoided with a lower payrise than the Tories would have had to do, because people will feel listened to and valued.
