Could do with a bit of music to accompany this though

cardibach · 17/07/2024 11:51

Speech contained some lovely stuff. Hope the specific mention of a ‘sovereign state of Palestine’ will shut some of the nastiness up.

Rupert Carrington there looking just like his dad if anyone remembers

Is his dad Desmond?
Edited to add the 🤣🤣 I meant to put. I do know it isn’t Desmond, but he’s the most famous Carrington in my head.

Yeah just a tiny bit if God Save The King when Charlie turned up in his coach.

Rupert Carrington is a crossbench hereditary peer @cardibach

Last honourable MP I can recall. Stood down over the Falklands and took full blame. Which was a damn shame as he actually had some skillz. Who knows how NI might have turned out ?

tobee · 17/07/2024 12:00

He was 99 when he died 1919 to 2018 @SerendipityJane

tobee · 17/07/2024 12:02

lol just saw your edit @cardibach

tobee · 17/07/2024 12:04

Wonder what Charles is grousing about to Camilla?!

NoDishiForRishi · 17/07/2024 12:06

And off they pop!

You reckon they'll take the state carriage through Maccies on the way home? 😂😂

DuncinToffee · 17/07/2024 12:06

"My government will seek to reset the relationship with European partners, and work to improve the United Kingdom's trade and investment relationship with the European Union"

RobinStrike · 17/07/2024 12:07

The Kings Speech seems excellent. It will be interesting to see the detail. Really liked to see the emphasis on ethics-a duty of candour for civil servants. Improvement on rights for tenants and employees. I do like that they've kept the legislation on eliminating smoking.
Rishi Sunak looks happy for the first time in years. He must be so relieved to give up the mess that was the conservative government.
Camilla took Charles' hand ( see the thread on hand holding on the job) and her hand was shaking badly. I don't think she enjoys these events.

tobee · 17/07/2024 12:10

I didn't notice the guy in the tri cornered hat sitting up top doing the driving of the carriage with the crown and cap of maintenance.

Fuck off Richard Tice

tobee · 17/07/2024 12:11

Oh and fuck off some more Richard Tice

NoDishiForRishi · 17/07/2024 12:12

Totally irrelevant but Richard Tice is tall isn't he?

tobee · 17/07/2024 12:12

He's a stupid cunt.

NoDishiForRishi · 17/07/2024 12:13

tobee · 17/07/2024 12:12

He's a stupid cunt.

Amen to that!

A very tall one…
I said ‘Fuck off Tice’ as soon as he appeared too.
SNP guy talking total shit there. Labour are tackling child poverty and aren’t pursuing the Tory hard Brexit - they specifically said ‘resetting’ that.

tobee · 17/07/2024 12:22

Did someone bet Chris Bryant how many pop song titles he could get in to the chat today? 🤣

cardibach · 17/07/2024 12:23

Seems like it @tobee !

Notonthestairs · 17/07/2024 13:00

I've missed everything this morning - I will catch up later.

Spotted this on Twitter

Hard to imagine Trump, Biden, Vance and Harris having a good laugh after the election like Sunak, Starmer, Dowden and Rayner are.

#KingsSpeech

It's a few moments of them sharing a laugh. Hunt and Reeves in the background chatting.

As Adam Schwarz comments below - important to see the peaceful transfer of power.

Parliament hasn't shown itself in its best light in recent years & I do feel that Labour have had an absolute hospital pass here - but nevertheless this is very good to see and something to be grateful for.

(Only briefly saw your comments Pointy - I feel for you and your family).
