For me, a half finished box of Mr Kipling Bakewell tarts

An old coat from Sainsbury’s

A bottle of factor 50 sun cream

Pass it on!

On a serious note, a reminder not to leave any valuables in the car. So many break ins in my area!

A car seat.
Some rubbish.
Maybe £1 coin for the trolly.
First aid kit
Hi vis jackets x 4

Tmpnmc86 · 11/07/2024 12:36

A sleeping bag, mattress, roller skates, some blankets, camping stoves, washing up bowl, thick glove for handling fires, two kayak sails.

I'm sure there's stuff I've forgotten.

DoraDont · 11/07/2024 12:41

Half a bottle of water, a dog harness, dog poo bags, a dry robe-a-like, beach shoes various sizes, a tow float, a waxed jacket, wellies various sizes, size 4 walking shoes (no inner soles), 645 bags for life, half a pack of M&S combo mix crisps, gym membership card.

Beamur · 11/07/2024 12:44

DH left our car accidentally unlocked one night. Someone rifled through his stuff and didn't take anything 😂😂
In the boot there's a box with various gubbins in it - tyre compressor, warning triangle, old towels. Nothing valuable

TheNoonBell · 11/07/2024 12:45

Torch, tire iron, folding spade and first aid kit
Lots of carrier bags
A bit of old carpet
Half a bag of mint imperials

Sillybillypoopoomummy · 11/07/2024 12:50

an old centrifuge (bet they couldn't carry it far though!)

Coastalcreeksider · 11/07/2024 12:51

Mint imperials, sanitiser, spare pair sunglasses, two cool bags with bags in, one has foot pump in, various sponges, scrapers etc and locking nut thingy. Jumbo trolley bag in boot for supermarket shop.

CoodleMoodle · 11/07/2024 12:57

An old sat nav that's so slow you've reached your destination before it loads.

Purse with about £4 in change (for car parks).

An old stroller I can't bear to get rid of (youngest DC is 6!).

Bag of pool shoes for swimming lessons. And some biscuits for after said swimming lessons.

Crumbs. So many crumbs.

The only valuable thing in our car is our Echo Auto (Alexa for the car)... but she doesn't work very well so they can have her.

CMOTDibbler · 11/07/2024 13:07

In the boot: dog bed, duvet, two fleece blankets, my towelling dryrobe (which dh didn't take out the other week before putting dogs in and I haven't taken out and washed since)
Storage compartment in boot: emergency waterproof poncho, folding dog bowl, water bottles, tyre inflator
Storage box: big first aid kit, hi vis, torches, tow rope, etc
Front storage area: suncream, couple of packets of percy pigs, water, cereal bars, wipes, dog poo bags, masks, hand sanitizer, £50 in cash, pens, energy gels, hand cream, ratchet straps, paracetamol, spare bike light
Strewn across the back seat: dry robe, towel, flip flops, shortie wetsuit, swimming bag (hats, cossies, goggles, fins), emergency paperback, umbrella

There is probably more as well. My car is an extension of my house really

bluecampbell · 11/07/2024 13:11

Dog poo bags (mostly empty)

Half a mars bar from 1982

76 half used tubes of lip balm (varying flavours)

Half a bottle of water

A key for the shed of the house I moved out of in the 1990s

Assorted fruit pastilles with dog hair in varying stages of stickiness

And I'm sure I lost a pork pie under the passenger seat last week....

LaWench · 11/07/2024 13:13

4 ikea bags
Lip balm and mints
Morrisons vouchers and trolley token
Gym key and gloves
Cheap sunglasses
Charging cable

About 20 assorted bags for life. A Bill Bryson CD that no-one has listened to for years.

A spray bottle of glass cleaner and a cloth.

The locking wheel nuts (should probably not keep those in the car!)

Some sugar-free sweets.

A plastic cup.

My weight-lifting straps and an old face-mask in the central holder between the two front seats

Some hand sanitiser.

A pound coin and a euro coin.

A first aid kit

Re: those locking wheel nut adaptors - you really do need to keep them in the car in case of a flat tyre. Without them, you won't be able to remove the wheel. Even if you have no spare and carry a tyre repair kit, you could still damage a tyre beyond the scope of your can of gloop, get towed to a garage and need those wheel nut adaptors!

GasPanic · 11/07/2024 13:17

Shocked there are not more pairs of emergency pants. And socks.

Stepping out of the car into a giant puddle once made the socks worthwhile.

I am not talking A* garments here, just grey well washed somewhat greying stuff that can be used in a crisis.

I also do not understand first aid kits. I mean a bit of gauze is not going to help in any serious injury crisis. And anything non serious can wait till you get back to home/the hospital.

Hoppinggreen · 11/07/2024 13:17

A half bag of Yorkshire mixtures that have stuck together
Parking permits for Harrogate and Alnwick (I live in neither)
Some very cute Hello Kitty tissues - bought at an airport so not easily replaced

Foxxo · 11/07/2024 13:18

a lot of general crap.. hair brush, wipes, notebook, pens, first aid kit..etc, the big thing is my wheelchair.

BIWI · 11/07/2024 13:20

That's a very good point @Oldandcobwebby - too many years of worrying about having alloy wheels nicked!

Less a car and more of a mobile personal storage compartment.

AllProperTeaIsTheft · 11/07/2024 13:24

In one car, an umbrella, a couple of CDs and an aux cable.

In the other car an umbrella, a pair of cheapish sunglasses and a small plastic toy donkey who lives in pride of place on the top of the dashboard since dh found him up a fell in the Lake District (and named him after it). Tbh I wouldn't care about the umbrellas or sunglasses that much, but I'd miss Harrison Stickle the donkey Grin

an old centrifuge (bet they couldn't carry it far though!)

Not a good idea.

I used to carry heavy crap like that around in my car all the time until I realised :

i) In a crash it will fly around and kill you unless it is really well secured.

ii) It affects the handling.

iii) It damages the suspension.

iv) It actually costs a lot more in fuel if you are carrying kilos worth of crap around. Plus if it is in the boot it can be really hard to get the spare wheel out.

i'm first aid/cpr trained. my First aid kit contains more than plasters.. it has a CPR mask, a foil blanket, burn/wound treatment wipes, sling, several large bandages, emergency scissors for cutting clothes off.

The point of them is to tide you over until emergency services arrive.

You're at that stage of life, cars get like this. I'm a grandparent so short journeys, no food, water, toys. Just booster seats.

My sons cars on the other hand especially mums are a struggle to keep straight.

I am the grandparent!! 😂
That's the grandchildrens carseats and toys!
I see them every day.

Don't worry
It isn't there for long - just being moved from one lab to another for disposal!

Xanadu58 · 11/07/2024 13:33

An umbrella A phone holder

Tdcp · 11/07/2024 13:35

Sat Nav (in the glove compartment, inherited from FIL and never used), phone holder (ditto - couldn't get it to stick to the windscreen), Green Flag contact details, paper UK road atlas, CDs, wheel locking nut, can of oil, high-vis vests, torch and spare tyre dust caps, bottle of hand sanitiser and lead for connecting phone to car radio.
