There should be the death penalty for Karl Clifford and those like him

There is no doubt he did it. No case of mistaken identity. He’s taken 3 lives. He should be executed.

So what if she got the name wrong why do you feel you have to comment about it? Like what is this about ? A spelling mistake ‘oh no’ someone got a name wrong ‘oh no’ pleaseeeeeee 🤦🏼‍♀️

Because it proves the point that mistakes happen and the wrong person could end up being killed by the state. If the op had his/her way, the wrong person would be swinging from a gibbet by now
How difficult is that to understand?

VolvoFan · 10/07/2024 19:22

I do understand your sentiments. I think the death penalty should be reinstated for cases where it's obvious who the murderer is. A good example is one of Lee Rigby's killers (may he RIP). He was on camera, bloodied, holding a meat cleaver and outright confessed with a dozen eyewitnesses nearby saying he did it and the bystanders saw it happen. It will never happen because the justice system in this country is not stable enough to not mistakenly execute an innocent person.

WinterMorn · 10/07/2024 19:23

@Rainbowsponge I’m not being absurd in the slightest. Have a quick look at the upcoming US election and the likely winner and then come back to me with your comments about unilateral power.

No.

A whole life tariff would be justice here.

I don’t agree with capital punishment for many reasons, but let’s not forget this man tried to kill himself. Men who commit crimes like this aren’t scared of death, that’s why we see so many kill themselves afterwards. I don’t want them to have the easy way out, I want them to face trial and be punished. I want them to know they will never have freedom again.

This is a very important thing you have said. Men who are happy with trying to kill themselves snd threaten this to the women in their lives are telling them as clear as day they are dangerous and can hurt them. Feeling sorry for a man in these circumstances is a mistake. Call the police and get out.

Wow you are literally taking this literal. Obviously the people who would be the ones who decide the fate of a person would be a professional and know their stuff. As I said if there is 110% concrete evidence that a certain person has committed the crime then I feel as though capital punishment should be considered.

I have worked in a high position actually. I was very good at my job. Not that that's any of business. Assuming I don't because of how I feel about capital punishment 🙄

But you weren’t just talking about capital punishment, were you? You were advocating for mass sterilisation.

Plus a spelling mistake is definitely a lot minor that killing an innocent man for a crime he hasn’t committed 🙄🤦🏼‍♀️

DancingPhantomsOnTheTerrace · 10/07/2024 19:25

I don't agree with capital punishment but I think in these cases the best thing that can happen is that the police need to use lethal force, perhaps more readily than currently

You don't agree with capital punishment after a full investigation, trial and jury decision, but you do agree with police being more trigger happy?

Let him rot in a cell. But in a cell in a prison where no visits are allowed, you have no contact with family at all, you're segregated 24/7 and given basic food rations. Enough of the holiday camp prisons you see on TV with phones, TV's, computers, warm bedding. It should be like the workhouses of old and be seen as an actual deterrent ie a fate worse than death.

Well no he'll likely get he's own cell, a playstation and in cell phone tv, a weekly allowance and protection like lucy letby rose west etc

I do not support the death penalty under any circumstances. I can see how some might deserve it, but nobody should have that power, including the state.

DontBiteTheCat · 10/07/2024 19:26

moonlightwatch · 10/07/2024 19:20

The thing is prison is easier for some criminals because they are safe, get fed three meals a day, get gym access if they are good which outside of prison you have to pay for, they are allowed to go outside for exercise and they also have tv's, radios and even game consoles. I always thought prison was a case of being in a cell 24/7 but it's not I do think a lot of criminals go back to their old ways because being in prison is a luxury to them 🤷🏼‍♀️

Prisons are absolutely not safe.

Yes, you may get an hour in the exercise yard if you’re lucky, but the rest of the time you are inside. No amount of TV’s or PlayStations would make up for the fact that for 23 hours a day, you have no freedom. You can’t pop and see your family and friends, you can’t walk to the shop, you can’t go and sit out in your garden. It’s the loss of freedom that is the hardest to bear; knowing you will never be free again.

My house is quite nice, several rooms, lots of tech, some gym equipment etc. If someone locked the door though and told me I could never leave again until the day I died I think I’d go quite mad.

The death penalty has no place in a civilised society

Thank you - noted. I don’t have a problem admitting a spelling or grammatical error.

Prawncow · 10/07/2024 19:28

I’d much rather they were given whole life prison terms, with no possibility of parole. Preferably in places where they spend 23 hours a day in their cells.

Nottodaythankyou123 · 10/07/2024 19:28

Noseybookworm · 10/07/2024 19:15

It's state sanctioned murder. Which makes us just as bad as the murderer. Also, if we reintroduce the death penalty, innocent people WILL be executed, that's just a fact. We're a civilised society and we don't uphold our values by killing people.

Also it goes the other way and juries are often less likely to convict - the test will move from beyond reasonable doubt to beyond all doubt in their minds - knowing that the defendant will be executed based on their decision. They’ll scrabble around looking for any doubt on cases where they may otherwise have convicted.

He will go down the MH route no doubt

He can go down any route he likes as long as the outcome is him being locked up for the rest of his life.

Well, you’ve just identified him incorrectly, yourself, so that’s hardly a great argument.

For the women who abuse their children who are unfit mothers and have been proven extreme neglect yes. The women who also have baby after baby knowing they aren’t allowed to keep them. I think it’s cruel for the child to be put into the care system because the mother keeps getting pregnant.

Lindy2 · 10/07/2024 19:30

I couldn't agree with a death sentence but a man like this has no place in society.

I hope he gets locked up for the rest of his life. Perhaps he'll do everyone a favour and take his own life instead. I suspect if he was going to do that though he'd have done it already.

Maybe we could support those women to be adequate parents instead?

WhereAreWeNow · 10/07/2024 19:31

No. Hard disagree. The death penalty is barbaric.
The culprit of this horrific attack should be locked up for life.

If rumours/reports are correct he had tried to hand himself in the cemetery where he was found.

You think the state should have control of our fertility?

That's a pretty shocking viewpoint.
