Hearing the mam talk on the news. I am heartbroken for her and her family.
But 17 years in jail is nothing he ruined at least two families.

Mistakes happen!!!! Yes they do but what he did wasn’t a mistake. A mistake would be accidentally leaving the tap on and coming home to flood not getting behind the wheel while under the influence of alcohol.
I agree I don’t think 17 years is any where near enough especially when you confider he’ll only actually serve 8.5 behind bars.
RIP baby Zachary and Karlene.

AquaFurball · 09/07/2024 21:02

Modern technology can do so much, no car should be able to move with a drunk driver behind the wheel. The technology is there, it should be mandatory imo. Zero tolerance.

Accidents and mistakes do happen. Driving drunk is neither, it's a choice.

JohnofWessex · 09/07/2024 21:03

There are mnany commnents I might make, but I suggest that we should look at what the Dutch do and detain serious offenders in Physciatric Hospitals.

Prisoners in the UK dont like being 'Nutted Off' because that have a more structured day and have to face up to what they have done

Rainfallrain · 09/07/2024 20:44

I won’t say what he deserves, the driver.

I will. He deserves to be thrown into a windowless cell, the door locked and the key dropped down a well. Leave him there to starve slowly and painfully to death in his own filth.

I'm rarely affected by the news but I've read the Mum's statement while my 5 week old boy is sleeping beside me, with tears pouring down my face. I hope she can find the strength from somewhere to go on. I'm not sure I could.

GlossyChipmonk · 09/07/2024 21:09

The poster trying to make a political statement on this thread is an utter prick. Shame on you.

OP - it’s absolutely heartbreaking and I hope this guy suffers hugely in prison. I hope that every day he feels like he’s in hell.

Thevelvelletes · 09/07/2024 20:51

All because fuckwit couldn't keep his lips off a bottle of vodka.
I hope his sleeping hours are full of torment.

I do too but by all accounts he didn't give a shit about what he did. Imagine just really not caring that you did that. Astounding.

OhHelloMiss · 09/07/2024 21:09

@CheeseWisely great. And prison staff are expected to be observers of that?

Order has to be kept for staff safety that's why I said I hope his sleeping hours are full of torment.no place for jail justice because it puts others at risk.

ChooChoooo · 09/07/2024 21:14

I’m horrified that this piece of work might be behind the wheel of a car again one day. I’d like him to never leave prison, but if that isn’t legally possible, I’m shocked he hasn’t been/can’t be banned from driving for life.

CheeseWisely · 09/07/2024 21:14

OhHelloMiss · 09/07/2024 21:09

I'd gladly volunteer to be the one to lock the door and chuck the key 🤷🏻‍♀️ Doesn't need to be a prison cell, any old windowless secure room will do.

CormorantStrikesBack · 09/07/2024 21:16

I felt physically sick reading this, totally heartbreaking.

Bournetilly · 09/07/2024 21:18

This made me cry, absolutely heartbreaking. He doesn’t deserve to live.

Nice. How would you be any different to him then. He showed no remorse at all, for what he had done. But to take his life would be okay, would it? How does that work then? On second thoughts, save it.

OhHelloMiss · 09/07/2024 21:20

True @LadyKenya but that poster is just all talk.... that's all. There's no way they would ever face in to that.

I don’t think they would care. I know I wouldn’t.

Julyshouldbesunny · 09/07/2024 20:45

Why do they even make cars that can go that speed?. Genuine question....

I completely agree. They should build in some way of stopping cars going over the speed limit.

HungryLittleCrocodile · 09/07/2024 21:20

This vile article ALSO tried to make out that he had picked up a hitchhiker, and THEY were behind the wheel, to worm his way out of the charge.

He took photos of the speedometer too, as he was clearly so excited to be going sooo fast. Hmm

And yeah he said 'mistakes happen' as if he had dropped his wife's best dress into some bleach on the bathroom floor in error. Confused

Also no idea why standard domestic cars need to have the ability to go 150mph! NO (normal) car should be able to go more than 65-70mph.

Devastating story. That lovely young woman and this adorable child. Taken waaaay too soon. R.I.P. Angels. 😢

Vile monster should have got 30 years for this. Nasty NASTY creature. 😖 Horrible, soulless, arrogant, manipulative, despicable NASTY creature!

OhHelloMiss · 09/07/2024 21:21

@Bournetilly well I would! It's your job too then?

How on earth can you possibly know this? Confused

whathasitgottodowiththepriceofoliveoil · 09/07/2024 21:22

Does anyone know if the sentencing report is available - I want to understand why it was only 17 years

It would be great if the car wouldn't start unless you passed an inbuilt breathalyser. And phones disabled on all but hands free functions.

Thevelvelletes · 09/07/2024 21:22

Bournetilly · 09/07/2024 21:20

I don’t think they would care. I know I wouldn’t.

They have to intervene if not it strays into dereliction of duty.

Bournetilly · 09/07/2024 21:22

@OhHelloMiss he took 2 lives, he doesn’t deserve to live.

Frazzledteacher · 09/07/2024 21:23

Absolutely horrific. Why is it always the innocent that have their life taken away from them in the most horrible way, yet he walked away unscathed. He should have been the one crushed to death or flung from the car in a crash.
I wish I hadn't read that now, I really don't want to take my little boy in the car again 😢

ItsTheGAGGGGGGGG · 09/07/2024 21:23

I think the worst thing about these situations is that the drunk driver often lives. Why? Why? They’re the one that’s decided to bring chaos on the roads so why the fuck do they live? It’s awful, so awful for the victims
