Dd went on a residential trip last week for her end of year primary school thing. I bought for her, a body spray to use whilst she was there because it was a lot of outdoor activities.

Now all I can smell is the bloody body spray. She reapplies it daily. My fault really for getting it in the first place but I thought she would be older than 11 before the perfume fug starts. I’m just lucky the lynx for ds hasn’t started yet!

I remember in p6/p7 (05/06/07 ish), the girls were allowed to change in the girls toilets in they wanted, so after pe, when we got back into uniform, we would have impulse parades. So everyone would line up with their impulse can and spray as someone walked down the line 😂

I still use perfume liberally. Also if I forget to take washing out the machine and hang it up, and it smells a wee bit fusty when it’s dry, I use febreeze, in the same way I used to use impulse 😂

also, we always put roll on deodorant on, and then would impulse on top of clothes. Are you guys just using impulse on armpits?

Oh my goodness Charlie spray, that brings back memories of getting ready for secondary school! I think I used to spray about half a can every morning, along with applying bright blue eyeshadow and foundation that was about five shades to orange for my skin. This all done as Britney Spears blasted from the stereo.

Rite of passage.

In the early 90s!!

Might be a good idea to check with school before the residential as many schools have a no body/deodorant sprays allowed policy as these could trigger asthma attacks etc in other children sharing a room. Especially when they're sprayed around liberally!
Roll on no problem

Trips been and done so no worries there.

DD loves lynx Africa, my house regularly smells like I Live with a horde of teenage boys.

They still make Lynx Africa? Does it still smell like it did in the 90's?

Me and my friends used to wear this so that we smelled like the boys we fancied. Memories.

WetBandits · 07/07/2024 20:13

Charlie Pink was the scent of my teens Grin one whiff of that and I’m back in the PE changing rooms, there’s an aroma of Charlie and socks and someone is close to having an asthma attack.

I'll leave this here.....

Oh god. It’s started…
Didiplanthis · 07/07/2024 20:36

My lot 2 x 12 and 14 all have sensory issues and can't cope with sprays or roll ons (thank God as neither can I ) or unfamiliar smells so they all use the stick Dove comfort clean for men their dad uses. It's quite nice but it is like having 3 mini 50 yr old men wandering round 🤣... I did expect a period of lynx... I actually bought them a mini one to try .. one squirt and they begged me never to abuse them in this cruel and unusual manner ever again !

Pashazade · 07/07/2024 20:47

I've categorically told ds he will not be permitted to have Lynx ever. The smell of some of them makes me feel physically ill. So we aren't even going there!

Testina · 07/07/2024 22:49

I have a 14yo who brings any random* 3 from Victoria’s Secret, Sol de Janeiro and So… to school every single day. Not unusual to basically supply pumps to friends at various times - it’s all very communal and friendly.

*random will be an injustice. I’m sure if I asked, “why those 3?” there’d be a forthcoming detailed explanation about balance.

I just embrace it - she gets a lot of pleasure from it, and will outgrow the excess of it eventually I think. Let them enjoy it!

MegsNaiceJam · 08/07/2024 02:02

At our secondary school we have just installed an outdoor area which has an overhand for cover and some mirrors and shelves. It is used as a station for students to do their hair post PE or at break.
it has been extremely successful as they all spray themselves silly outside instead of fogging up the school.
They asked for a “glam station” and they got it.

I remember when my dh was living at home. His dad would comment 'smells like a tarts hand bag in here!' Which translated to the house smelling of lynx and versace blue jeans! His brother was still at home then, too. No escape

My grandad used to say that lol and I started saying it to my son when he hit his teenage years 😂 I lost him aged 22 in 2022 in an accident and honestly his bedroom still smells like a tarts handbag when I go in there with how much he used to put on lol reading your post made me tear up a bit (in a good way) because I haven't said that phrase for 2 years now and I love seeing things that remind me of him

My 11yr old dd is obsessed with Sol de janeiro…she has them all, one for nearly every day, so at least the smell varies in this house 😂

How rude of your father.

Surely you should never shame pubescent children for trying to pay attention to their personal hygiene.

Either teach them to wash better daily and/or shut up.

That’s not how it was back then though.
It was meant in jest more than anything else.
My Nan used to say it smelled like a Chinese knocking shop when I went on a spraying spree.
My Nan was born in 1913. You’ll find a lot of these much older grandparents had their phrases on things that would now be deemed as inappropriate

DD has recently started this phase, just about on the day of her 10th birthday. I got her a skin-friendly nice-smelling deodorant but she favours a hefty skoosh of a stinky flowery Boots body spray too.

Lorrainedrops · 09/07/2024 18:23

Brings back lots of memories. Impulse black amd red can and blue and pink, Charlie red and blue and Exlamation. Then... Avon Occur and pearls and lace. Body shops white musk perfume, Dewberry and coconut oil (a colleague used to wear this and I always knew what aisle she was working on as I could smell her before I saw her) Moved on to Cerruti 1881 and Vanderbilt. Through the years I've tried Anais anais, Poison, Lou lou, Sunflowers, Obsession, Samsara, Escape, Eternity, and Clinique Happy, A girl at school wore Giorgio Beverly hills (yellow and white box) It was lovely and became my favourite and now, - 39 years later 😱 - it's still my favourite. Happy memories. My 14 year old likes vanilla and coconut 🥥 scents and has a beautiful body spray by So -truffle cream white chocolate and coconut flower.

Wait till she discovers the Sol de Janeiro sprays - to be fair they smell amazing ut are v expensive!!

My DD whose is almost 10 sprays SO... but she has her eye on this for her birthday.

BlueFlowers5 · 09/07/2024 18:39

I feel empathy for you OP. My DS when he discovered Lynx, used to use 1/3 of it every morning before school. It would trigger my asthma when he sprayed it on himself in our bathroom. I had to ask him to only spray it on himself in his bedroom.
Commiserations!
