Dd went on a residential trip last week for her end of year primary school thing. I bought for her, a body spray to use whilst she was there because it was a lot of outdoor activities.

Now all I can smell is the bloody body spray. She reapplies it daily. My fault really for getting it in the first place but I thought she would be older than 11 before the perfume fug starts. I’m just lucky the lynx for ds hasn’t started yet!

There are worse smells.

Yes ! Dior Savage for one, give me Lynx any day compared to that .

Xmasbaby11 · 07/07/2024 18:27

Sounds normal, and good she's trying to keep on top of her hygiene. My dd12 (ASD) regularly forgets to put on deodorant and the BO is unbelievable. I was never a smelly teen so genuinely shocked how quickly she can get BO and that it gets on her clothes etc.

I think the strong body sprays are a rite of passage!

YellowAsteroid · 07/07/2024 18:32

The Dove solid deodorant smells gorgeous.

Why does she need body spray? Surely deodrant is what is needed not Charlie.

never buy them a scent you don’t love the smell of!

This I remember buying my daughter a cheap perfume omg the smell was awful but she loved it house stank off this awful stuff anyway I binned and replaced for a much nicer one.

Mothership4two · 07/07/2024 18:41

DS is just back from his holiday and upstairs has gone back to eau de Lynx

Mouldiwarp1 · 07/07/2024 18:42

Charlie!? I had no idea you could still get it. I remember being so excited to get a Charlie gift box (soap, perfume, body lotion, etc) for Christmas when I was 14. I’m now 63 - it was the original with pale blue packaging. As someone upthread said, it was then on to Rive Gauche, Anais Anais and also L’Air du Temps. Happy days!

Charlie

Having a Charlie Pink spray as a teenager is like a rite of passage.

I remember our PE changing rooms absolutely stinking of the stuff back in the early 00’s. Surprised it didn’t cause asthma attacks.

Soubriquet · 07/07/2024 18:49

That’s what she’s got! Charlie Pink

Also for those mentioning the Sol De Janeiro sprays, Primark do dupes of them they’re about £3. (But can imagine some teens not wanting Primark sprays).

JennyWI · 07/07/2024 19:04

Would rather smell body spray than my hubby's step kid that only showers every two weeks ( he's 23)

ShiftySquirrel · 07/07/2024 19:07

Haha, two youngish teens here. They've been testing which scents to take on holiday. The sickly sweet cucumber was the best of a very strong, bad, fruity bunch.

They were both trying to mist all of them towards me for my opinion... The entire house smells like superdrug now.

Wouldn't be so bad if they took the nice ones I got them at Christmas, but no, it's impulse and multiple "layering" sprays they have settled on.

Gettingbysomehow · 07/07/2024 19:07

Oh God that's brought back memories of teenage DS and lynx and hour long showers. We all suffocated to death.

ilovesushi · 07/07/2024 19:18

Top tip - don't get them cheap body spray. They will love it and apply it in excess and you will be gassed every time you give them a lift anywhere and it will smell suspiciously like they sprayed it on to hide that they were smoking even though you know that's not the case.

Singleandproud · 07/07/2024 16:41

DD loves lynx Africa, my house regularly smells like I Live with a horde of teenage boys.

My ds loves this too.

I also liked the smell so now also use it 😂

Willjac123 · 07/07/2024 19:20

Might be a good idea to check with school before the residential as many schools have a no body/deodorant sprays allowed policy as these could trigger asthma attacks etc in other children sharing a room. Especially when they're sprayed around liberally!
Roll on no problem

Mothership4two · 07/07/2024 19:22

Yes DS schools had a aerosol spray ban @Willjac123

MegsNaiceJam · 07/07/2024 19:26

I must’ve stunk of Impulse O2 circa mid 90s. 🤣

DS is 11 and we use Fussy deodorants. All natural and great smells. He then pinches some of his adult brother’s fragrances

oakleaffy · 07/07/2024 19:27

tomketchup · 07/07/2024 18:03

and watch her eyes glaze over

😂🎯

ScrambledSmegs · 07/07/2024 19:37

DD1 and her friends all liberally douse themselves in So Simple sprays, I have to crack a window open when I'm giving them all lifts, otherwise I'd pass out at the wheel.

DD2 is less subtle and disgustedly exclaims 'ew it smells like teenagers in here'. Wait till she starts secondary school and discovers what teenage boys smell like after PE 🤢

Bbq1 · 07/07/2024 16:54

My dad used to say"smells like a tarts boudoir in here"! to similar!

My mother always said ‘it smells like the bottom of Madame Fifi’s handbag’

HelloTreacle9 · 07/07/2024 19:40

Your wallet is thanking you so far. DD (17) went straight from stinky 13yo to deciding she liked Chanel Coco Mademoiselle Rose (wtf?!), which is not cheap, and both she and my 14yo niece also smell regularly (but deliciously, it has to be said) of Sol de Janeiro Bum Bum Cream. Thank you, TikTok 😬

I used Rive Gauche in college but as a teen it was Love's Baby Soft. I had the original and the lemon one. Loved them. My poor parents and little sister.

My DS is older than the teens here but I remember Axe scents. They were overwhelming as he used the wash, antiperspirant and the body spray. My eyes would water sometimes.

Mothership4two · 07/07/2024 19:22

Yes DS schools had a aerosol spray ban @Willjac123

A lot of the sprays that teen girls are using these days aren't aerosols and aren't used as deodorant. The Victoria secret, sol de janeiro etc ones come in a pump bottle. So a lot of the comments here about roll on deodorants, better for the environment etc aren't really relevant. It's just like a perfume really.

I took my dd shopping the other day in a city we don't usually go to and she wanted to go into Victoria secret to check out the body sprays. She felt like she had hit the jackpot when she saw there was a sale on the sprays were something like €7 vs the €20 they usually are. Our home is now extremely fragrant and dd is a very happy girl.
