What is the "mob boss wife " look? What do they wear?

Do you mean this? I like a big coat and dramatic sunglasses, designer tote and big hair in spring and joke I look like a mob wife at a funeral. It’s a fun look though 😂

Huge false eyelashes. It’s the new sharpie brow and I can imagine people looking back on it in 5/10 years and really regretting it.

Floatinginatincan · 07/07/2024 16:55

Wow, some strong options here on other people's clothes, faces & bodies. Why don't you all post pictures of yourselves so we can all give our options & judgements.

Beige everything...

dont get me wrong, I love abit of beige but having a wardrobe and house that is entirely beige?
no thanks.

My husband had a friend who dressed entirely in beige. What got me was that he had been a dashing fighter pilot in his youth/not so youth.

Agreed, I made a similar comment earlier. Women pulling other women apart based on looks, what a world. I think jealousy can play a part sometimes too, maybe some women look good, better than they would in a given outfit, Or it is just a confidence issue in general. I want to see photos of these amazingly dressed fashion icons!

Crop tops, unitards about 0.01% of the population can pull those off.

Can I make it clear that my comments about style existing in France and Italy but not in the Uk apply to men and women.

Eh, I dunno. I think it's possible to talk about trends we consider unflattering without tearing down the wearers of said trends. I like cold shoulder tops but I don't take it personally that most people on MN seem to hate them.

JamSandle · 07/07/2024 17:13

Fake eyelashes and lip implants.

I live in Spain and I’m thoroughly sick of thong bikinis and the way women keep bending over in them. It’s all too gynaecological for me. Plus half the women wearing them are on the chunky side and I don’t need to see massive arses everywhere.

Oh my God yes! Sick of seeing butts!

SmudgeButt · 07/07/2024 17:20

flesh coloured leggings - looks at first sight like the person forgot to put anything on, no knickers, no trousers.

low backs on tops with a strange coloured bra showing. So nice floral top but showing your black or white bra. if you don't have the right coloured bra don't wear the top.

I know most things here have been about women but hairy men shouldn't be allowed in public without a shirt. it's gross.

And back to women...though I suppose it could apply to men as well. If you're going to wear sandals get ones that fit, don't have your toes hanging over the front.

Notimeforaname · 07/07/2024 17:22

Birkenstocks or any other sandals that look like them. They are the ugliest things I have ever seen. They ruin any outfit instantly. I cringe when I see them😆

Every other person seems to be wearing them now.

Why would you regret it? They're temporary, it's just fashion 😏

YouOKHun · 07/07/2024 17:25

@NOTthisOldchestnut @Floatinginatincan I do see what you’re both saying. I don’t like certain types of clothes or cosmetic enhancements and am happy to say so on an anonymous forum, but I don’t see that as pulling other people apart. In fact I don’t really pay much attention to other people’s personal choices day to day. When I see styles I wouldn’t choose I’m not making a wider judgement about a person or attacking others, nor would I comment in real life. I guess I feel more negative about the fashion industry that seems to pump out endless puff shoulder dresses etc, rather than the people who like them.

The trouble with these type of threads (such as “what are your interior design hates”) is that they start off light hearted and end up appearing to laugh at certain groups of people.

I can promise you that if I shared a photo of me for assessment of my sartorial state there would be plenty of judgement as today I am wearing a fringed poncho from South America my DS gave me yesterday. I look like a middle aged Llama herder.

Regrets a strong word, maybe cringe is a better word. I know I look back at my sharpie eyebrows from my teen years and cringe!

ChuckinDaaahn · 07/07/2024 17:33

A lot of the OTT make-up, false eyelashes and things I wouldn’t be seen dead in (sliders and socks etc) are young people’s fashion, so it doesn’t bother me. I’m sure my mother wasn’t enamoured with my teenage style back in the 90s.

My main gripe with ‘fashion’ at the moment is how everything is either oversized and baggy or skintight and cropped. I long for tailoring to make a return. HATE big floppy midi dresses, wide legged trousers, boxy tops, nothing with a proper waist.

And shoes. Shoes are so ugly, big and clumpy. Hate the trainers fashions, and don’t want to revisit ‘retro’ Adidas of my youth.

Clothes shopping hasn’t been fun for 5+ years for me.

CatamaranViper · 07/07/2024 15:18

It's got to be the bodysuits. They look like morph suits.
You can see everything. Absolutely everything. It doesn't look flattering on anyone

I did a double take the other week when I drove past a young girl wearing a flesh coloured body suit, no bra and flesh coloured up yer bum leggings.

Chocolatepeanutbuttercupsandicecream · 07/07/2024 17:37

I thought of socks and crocs before I even opened the thread!
Also flesh coloured leggings or - worse - those flesh coloured bodysuit things that are kind of leggings and vest joined together.

Alwaystimeforacupoftea · 07/07/2024 17:39

There was a time when young people and older people's fashion all merged into one (skinnies). I think a lot of young people are now delighting in wearing stuff we older ones wouldn't be seen dead in!

Vroomfondleswaistcoat · 07/07/2024 17:45

Crocheted anything. Crochet is for car seat covers, cushion covers, bedspreads, sofa throws - if you absolutely must have crochet. Crochet clothing should NOT be a thing. It just makes you look like you really love your nan.

Everything else, meh, I can put up with it. But NOT CROCHET.

LordPercyPercy · 07/07/2024 17:46

Lip lifts! Now that I'm aware of them, I can't unsee them on various celebs/internet personalities.
It makes them all look like Shih Tzus.

JohnTheRevelator · 07/07/2024 17:46

katebushh · 07/07/2024 12:46

Cream and beige bodysuits, shows every nook and cranny which the the rest of us dress to cover up. Added to it huge fake eyelashes and fake lips with thick brown makeup. All worn with sliders.

This! I can't put into words how awful I think they look. The first time I saw a woman wearing one I thought maybe she was doing it for a dare.

JohnnyAndTheDead · 07/07/2024 17:46

I'm happy in dresses and trainers. I don't do heels; boots are too hot; sandals don't work when it's wet or cold as it is at the moment. What else would I put on my feet? God forbid a woman is comfortable.
