When the exit poll came through with them having 13 MPs someone on Twitter did point out that mean’t they’d need a chief whip and God help them.

I mean it would be like herding cats. And that’s just with the ones that wanted to be elected. Not the ones that were supposed to be paper candidates and accidentally got elected and the ones that don’t exist.

How long before Farage as CEO and Anderson as Chief whip have a huge bust up?

newnamethanks · 09/07/2024 23:01

You know what they say falafel vote Labour, pay more tax. Cat tax photos on here, or something else cheerful and lovely to show tax is worth it😀

newnamethanks · 09/07/2024 23:04

Where can Anderson go next? Unionist like Mr Powell?

placemats · 09/07/2024 23:23

The TUV might have him @newnamethanks

RafaistheKingofClay · 09/07/2024 23:27

There are a few fringe far right parties to head to next. Then I suppose he’ll have to go complete the circle and go for one of the communist parties. Or all of them if he can tell which is which.

Same here. I loved John Bercow. For those of us missing him, here's a link to some of his most memorable moments! Enjoy - the flying flamingo makes a reappearance, too 🤣

How come you need ID to be able to vote but not to be able to stand as a candidate?...

RafaistheKingofClay · 10/07/2024 00:42

Not sure. But I do remember it being pointed out that it was ridiculous when voter ID was bought in.

Presumably because the Tories were trying to restrict voting not candidates standing so nobody pointed out the ridiculousness of the situation. Another poor piece of legislation that needs to be unpicked.

If Starmer does one thing, not rushing legislation through without proper scrutiny should be it.

Just catching up on iPlayer some of the House of Lords swearing in with blast from the past Kenneth Baker. He's 89 now but didn't seem to need a stick or anything.

tobee · 10/07/2024 01:59

Amazed how few are NOT swearing to almighty god

Candidates are fine upstanding people whereas votes, might choose to vote Labour.

itsgettingweird · 10/07/2024 07:35

Rice on GMB now. It's all the fault of the lefties. So aggressive. Makes Sunak look sane during the GE campaign!

Zonder · 10/07/2024 07:40

Blooming lefties

itsgettingweird · 10/07/2024 08:08

He was asked about the inf their policies benefitted the rich above the poor. And he said if they do as they are lefties. Balls did ask him a few times if he was arguing with the facts but he kept replying that they were facts produced by lefties.

So are facts only facts when produced by approved people then?

Screamed that they didn't like facts 😂

itsgettingweird · 10/07/2024 08:08

ISF stating 🤦‍♀️

I watched several minutes of the Commons swearing in in the afternoon and was surprised at how many opted to swear on a holy book. I've never seen that ceremony before so it was interesting.

Notonthestairs · 10/07/2024 08:19

Fascinated to read that Reform's Lowe has supposedly made a list of schools in his constituency that allegedly commented negatively on Reform. Quite how he would substantiate this I don't know. But clearly he intends to intimidate and threaten schools based on sketchy information.

Seems very early days to rather miss the point about being an MP.

He's also donating his MPs salary to local causes. Which is nice of him given he wound up a company owing creditors and HMRC millions of pounds. Tinge of the Schapps.

Zonder · 10/07/2024 08:23

@itsgettingweird maybe facts are only facts when Reform make them up?

prettybird · 10/07/2024 08:25

Whenever I've done jury service (which I've had to do multiple times Hmm, most recently 3.5 years ago despite which I was called again a couple of weeks ago. Had to call them to say "Get Lost" for another 1.5 years Confused), I was always the only one of the 15 to affirm Shock

InMySpareTime · 10/07/2024 08:36

@prettybird I was called for jury service last year but was never selected, so have no experience of what happens in a court room.
I expect a lot of nominally Christian people will swear rather than affirm, not because they believe but because they don't not believe IYSWIM.

L1ttledrummergirl · 10/07/2024 08:40

I first wanted to be called as a juror in my teens when I learned about how courts operate (I wanted to be a lawyer, but the careers advisor laughed and said "not from this school").

I still haven't been called and think it must be fascinating.

Evenstar · 10/07/2024 08:48

It’s a pity there isn’t some kind of opt in for being willing to serve on juries and then they could not then select you again for a period of time.

I was called up twice within 6 months, when I had a baby and a toddler and my DH was working away from home most weeks, I was a SAHM and had no childcare or family near by and was also recovering from severe post natal depression. I was excused on both occasions, especially as the first time I was called up it would have been for a murder trial that could have lasted 6 months as it was mentioned in the letter.

I have never been asked again, despite the fact that I would have been happy to serve in different circumstances.

BIossomtoes · 10/07/2024 08:50

I’d love to do jury service, I’m very sad I’ve never been called.

countrygirl99 · 10/07/2024 08:59

Never been called either. When I feel sad I remind myself that DH got a child abuse ( baby left severely brain damaged) case and it really affected him for a while.
