I'm in stitches at this post. Who comes into a self indulgent sobfest thread like "well I only care for the finest opera"

and the opera is fucking Gilbert and Sullivan

Thank you 😆

Oh, and the last episode of One Day.

That was unbearable

MysteryofNils · 06/07/2024 06:38

@Thumbelinatinylittlething I nearly had to pull the car over the other day as Bright Eyes came on the radio and with all the stupid buttons in the car, I couldn't manage to turn it off to stop myself bursting into tears 😂

AuntieMarys · 06/07/2024 06:38

Broke back mountain

frozendaisy · 06/07/2024 06:39

First 10 minutes of UP is all you need.

Job done

PuppyMonkey · 06/07/2024 07:48

So delighted someone else has mentioned Somewhere in Time - I heard the music the other day and immediately burst into tears even though it must be 30 years since I’ve watched that film.

But yes basically any other film mentioned here. Also Bridge to Teribithia which I watched just after giving birth while still very hormonal. 😥

Unforgettablefire · 06/07/2024 07:57

A lion called Christian 🥹

booboo24 · 06/07/2024 08:50

Legends of the Fall - Haven't watched it for years but used to cry everytime!

It is one of the most beautiful films I've ever seen x

Lion is a good shout, too.

A lion called Christian 🥹

Agreed. That's absolutely lovely

Unforgettablefire · 06/07/2024 11:18

@Thumbelinatinylittlething Isn’t it. Anything with animals gets me but this is just so lovely.

Sondheimisademigod · 06/07/2024 11:30

The Mission
Educating Yorkshire - Mushy the boy with the stammer (yes, I appreciate he is now grown-up and doing great, but even thinking about the bullying he experienced...)

One that's been mentioned is coco which I love.

Now this one hasn't been mentioned from what I can see and it's got 2 different names, but I saw it called "inside I'm dancing".

It makes me cry thinking about it

Inside I'm dancing is sad, but the scene with the electric toothbrush has me in hysterical fits of laughter!

This is a fantastic reply and I agree - sport does it.
So, I'll add thenew Federer documentary to the list.

and when David Redmond's dad helped him over the finishing line after he snapped a hammy

I'm not sure I really understand the question. (a) why would crying make me feel better (b) I really don't need a film for that, I can do it to myself in 2 minutes just by running through the penultimate scene in Iolanthe

Really? I'm a crier and I don't find it tear jerking at all.

Films will make me shed a tear but the John Lewis advert from 2012 (with the snowman buying his lady-love a scarf in terrible weather) makes me weep. I think some of it must be learned behaviour; I was 3 wks post partum when I saw it for the first time when it came out and I sobbed.

I tend to go for books. I cry through 2/3rds of the time traveller's wife, or for the remainder of the book in which Dumbledore dies 🤷🏻‍♀️

MostlyGhostly · 06/07/2024 11:39

Terms of endearment is the only film that has made me laugh and cry

Soluckyinlove · 06/07/2024 11:40

Turner and Hooch.
