Showing my age here but Kramer vs Kramer 😢
and Against All Odds

IdaClair · 05/07/2024 17:29

I haven’t found a film that makes me cry yet. I cry when I’m angry, not when I’m sad.

QueenBitch666 · 05/07/2024 17:29

Truly Madly Deeply
Brief Encounter
What Dreams May Come

WinterKate · 05/07/2024 17:30

Miss You Already.

Exmarksthespot · 05/07/2024 17:31

Stickman

Every time I watch it with my grand-daughter I see her little face go from sadness at thinking he is lost forever, to absolute joy when he finally gets home.

Sorry if that's a spoiler 😅

Applepencilplant · 05/07/2024 17:31

The Color Purple

Trallers · 05/07/2024 17:31

Dear Zachary would do it (although I have no intention of ever watching it again as it was so dreadfully sad).

FortunataTagnips · 05/07/2024 17:34

Truly Madly Deeply
Tokyo Story

But I don’t actually find crying at all cathartic.

CaptainOliviaBenson · 05/07/2024 17:34

Beaches

Dontcallmescarface · 05/07/2024 17:35

I've watched quite a few mentioned on here and I can honestly say I haven't cried at any of them. In fact I've never cried over a film in my life,.

Floatinginatincan · 05/07/2024 17:35

A dog's way home. I'm not even a dog person, but this film really got me sobbing.

When Marnie Was There or Your Name. Absolutely bawl every time

Oh my goddness I've never met another person who even knows When Marnie Was There, nevermind bawls at it like I do!

Anything to do with horses also gets me. I can't even manage the first 5 mins of Black Beauty without weeping

And of course Coco

Steel Magnolias
Up
Inside Out - when Bing Bong dies
Ghost

what was the first film they made you cry! Me, age 13, watching Leo in Romeo and Juliet. Absolute floods of inconsolable tears!

I've seen Titanic too many times for it to get me anymore.

Requiem for a Dream still crashes my emotions though. It's a bleakfest too, so has the added bonus of making me feel better about my own life.

I was going to say Requiem for a Dream just for a laugh! But yes it is mightily bleak. It definitely made me phone my mum more often.

Genuinely teary film: Film Stars Don't Die in Liverpool. In a lovely way though.

BreakfastAtMilliways · 05/07/2024 17:40

Toy Story 3.
The abandoned doll song in Toy Story 2.
Shadowlands.
The song ‘Der Lindenbaum’ from Schubert’s Winterreise song cycle - one of those three-hanky melodies that disproves the old ‘rule’ that major-key tunes are happy.
And various classic poems on the theme of lost youth: I Remember, I Remember (by Thomas Hood) is a punch to the guts; there’s a Longfellow one with the refrain ‘A boy’s will is the wind’s will/And the thoughts of youth are long, long thoughts’ which always gets me; and if you really want your heart ripped out, listen to The Last Rose of Summer.

A little princess

I love how much Liam Cunningham still loves that film!

He will always be Papa

BreakfastAtMilliways · 05/07/2024 17:42

Oh, and the last episode of One Day.

MiniBattenburg · 05/07/2024 17:43

Inside out, the bit where joy is talking about Riley as a toddler and the memories. 😢
Bing bong.. Need I say more.
Also the bit where Riley runs back home and breaks down in front of her mum and dad about missing home.

MarkWithaC · 05/07/2024 17:43

Truly Madly Deeply, when the pest-control man hears Nina talking to Jamie, tells her he talks to his dead wife every day, and says, '"And death shall have no dominion." We know that, don't we, me and you?'

Bassetlover · 05/07/2024 17:43

positivewings · 05/07/2024 17:44

ffsrainagain · 05/07/2024 17:45

Pearl harbour and Armageddon. Every time. They are my go to when I need to cry but can't

NecessaryNC24 · 05/07/2024 17:46

The Colour Purple 😔
