One thing you're confident Labour can sort/change

Have to admit, I've never voted labour (but did change my vote this time around), have lived in a very safe Tory seat (but now LibDem) for years. Totally accept we need a change.

If you voted labour or know a lot about politics, I'd be interested to know one thing you feel confident they can sort, do better on or bring in that will be beneficial. No arguments/criticisms of others please.

I have found the last government to be utterly corrupt and to be honest embarrassing for us as a nation. I really hope that Labour aren’t quite the bottom feeders the Tory party have proved themselves to be, and can govern with a bit of honesty and conviction. I know it’ll take time for things to be sorted out, but I think these are safer hands to sort those things.

Maybe it's naive of me but I would hope that there would be a lot less corruption and scandal.

You are very naive.
Trust me, they all piss in the same pot.
The press will be watching, very carefully.
Labour used to be the party for the working classes. Not any more.
I only voted Tory because I think women's rights would be safer.
But there isn't much to choose between the two really

So you just blindly believe they can do this? Wow.

Why blindly believe? What are you talking about? Its just a discussion thread.

You rushed in to say you were confident Labour would fix the nhs, a huge statement, but are now being snippy as you’ve no idea how and don’t want to answer why you feel confident they can do this.

I’m particularly looking forward to how the GB Energy scheme will work,
given that nearly all our Utility companies are now foreign owned 🙄
If they manage to acheive even one thing in their fantasy ‘list’ I’ll be bloody amazed.
Expect much jostling for position and trouble with activist groups/ unions, I can’t decide whether the TRA mob or the Free Palestine mob will be the biggest problem.

What they can do with GB energy is start to reduce the price we all pay for non-fossil fuel energy. The cost to produce wind/solar etc. has not gone up but we are paying for it at market rates which are based on the cost of producing energy from oil/gas.

I'll leave you to your frothing. Very weird.

Affordable energy and investment in the NHS.

FundingitallHow · 05/07/2024 11:37

@SaltyGod that's how I feel because I ve not heard any decent radical solutions to problems.
Boats! Tory went after gangs, they have made a arrests... They still come.
NHS! Back log started massively in covid, how can they speed this up without working at the weekend, more mri scanners, radiologist and so on.
Education! There is no understanding of the need for better teaching around sen without this everything else is pretty hopeless.
Divisive! As we see many times from posters here there is a terrible streak in the labour party that calls people who don't vote Labour thick stupid, racist and selfish.
Trans issues! Goodbye women's rights.
I could go on.
Not a single sound bite has said how they will sort any issue except (anyone with money, we've come for you.)

MendingTheNets · 05/07/2024 11:38

How can they deal with NHS waiting lists? All I've seen is that they'll offer overtime to doctors to clear waiting lists. But doctors are already working way beyond their hours, waiting list initiatives have been in place since god knows when, but certainly the late 90s, and doctors can earn more working for an agency than doing NHS overtime. Plus there's a massive issue with recruitment and retention of medical staff, so asking then to do more isn't going to work.

It takes an absolute minimum of 12 years to 'grow' a consultant.

Theunamedcat · 05/07/2024 11:39

I'm hoping for a more settled and stable country these last few years have been a broken roller coaster

I'm also hoping they don't just go in and fucking decorate

bergamotorange · 05/07/2024 11:39

They can sort the situation where we have an end of life government that has no support in the country and has run out of energy and ideas.

That's enough for day one, surely?

I think we've got to be patient. ( Not sure for how long , though)

But I'm closely watching the first 100 days.

I'm hoping for NHS reform, and investment in Education and Early Years.

Hopefully they discussed the proposal with the relevant staffing groups - aren't they always described as being 'in hock with the unions'? The unions approved the manifesto.

BusyCM · 05/07/2024 11:41

Maybe I'm just feeling positive for once. Maybe it feels like we might have a fresh start. Maybe I'm wrong. Maybe not. Maybe we don't all have to be so negative and arsey over a simple guess about what labour might do. Maybe you should calm.down a bit and wait and see since they aren't even in government yet.

To confirm, I didn't vote for Labour. Let's just chill a bit.

Why do you have to be horrible?

FundingitallHow · 05/07/2024 11:19

Oh and I think it's going to be catastrophic time for women's rights.

Whelmed · 05/07/2024 11:44

Not sure about confidence but I'm expecting the focus to change to development and investment in infrastructure.

bergamotorange · 05/07/2024 11:44

BusyCM · 05/07/2024 11:42

Why do you have to be horrible?

Politics makes people angry.

Sometimes they are angry because the party they wanted to win didn't.

Don't take it personally. It's the other person's issue.

howaboutchocolate · 05/07/2024 11:44

Hedgehogsocks · 05/07/2024 11:22

NHS waiting times but not until 2025.

My colleagues are itching for their NMW wage increase. That’s what they voted for and they want it ASAP! £12-15PH (not my views. Just sharing what others really want!)

If NMW goes to £15ph they're going to have to raise a lot of public sector workers pay too because there are a lot of salary bands under that equivalent hourly rate, for jobs that require a lot more qualifications and responsibility than most minimum wage jobs.

NHS

How?

YouJustDoYou · 05/07/2024 11:46

Taxes are already high. Council tax is already high. They'll just charge more and more and more and STILL not be able to pay for all the things they've promised off the magical money tree.
