In unrelated news, certain posters seem much quieter now on other threads.

It's like the end of an era.

I could cut and paste a link to show you what I mean

Ha ha - cross post! Genuinely.

(I replied to a post I found on advanced search without reading the thread).

It's like saying BeetleJuice

Perhaps I have a sixth sense after all!

Anyway, I do have much to organise...

CassieMaddox · 06/07/2024 10:40

Have a lovely holiday clav. And tell the Tories a lurch to the right is not needed, tyvm

DuncinToffee · 06/07/2024 10:41

Or you are just an active lurker

IClaudine · 06/07/2024 10:42

If Hunt's out, then my prediction is Tugendhat will be the new leader.

TaraTories · 06/07/2024 10:43

@Evenstar yes care leavers, same as in US. The companies that house them and feed them are all linked, so we were going down a similar pathway. Even a few weeks ago there was a link on here to how much specialist schools were costing the councils...it's all part of the feeder system that is starting to lay down roots. We need to be veering swiftly away from it and towards a more evidence based approach to poverty causing a lot of longer term impacts and prevention. So many graphs correlating the rising poverty to educational outcomes/prison/reliance on the state. Time to start clawing down those numbers again. I think that's what we are all hopeful for now.

I think the Cabinet looks really strong.

Agree.

It gives real hope for things to come when the canines are chosen for their skill set and not through keeping skeletons in closets and party pressure.

A recent study showed that 80% of the female prison population had undx brain trauma as seen on mri imaging

That doesn't surprise me.

I work in special education in pastoral care and behaviour support. I do lots of CPD things around trauma informed journeys etc.

It actually run a lot through the police and Donna Collins the Tory PCC for our area - I really rate her. But she supports a lot of supporting young people to prevent trauma and shows how "threat" changes brain pathways and prevention and early intervention can prevent many from getting into crime through flight or fight responses.

I also wonder if we released many female prisoners through MH treatment if we would then have space to use a whole prison or prisons for woman for actual offenders! So repurpose Spencer we already have by releasing the correct people iyswim?

I've definitely noticed a gap where some posters used to be. No mention of Labour sneaking in the backdoor with a coalition...

If Hunt's out, then my prediction is Tugendhat will be the new leader.

If they've learned anything the past 6 weeks then he will.

If Hunt's out, then my prediction is Tugendhat will be the new leader.

I suspect the Conservative membership might not embrace him. I think they will cycle through a few leaders between now and the next election.

AP and AP funding in education is something that needs very urgent attention

More specialised send units, PRUs, and inpatient provisions are desperately needed

The price is eye watering....we pay £40k for 1 per pupil per year

And that has to be found from current non-existent school budgets

The tories and ofsted were setting up schools and school leaders to fail

Hope that changes...

Because if it doesn't, then there simply won't be any subject specialist, well qualified teachers left in state education

Schools will only be able to afford NQTs and cover supervisors, even for y11 and y13 🤷

Pleased to see the recent appointments

The less said about David Lammy the better

Notonthestairs · 06/07/2024 10:59

We've had a zombie government for a really long time. I am not entirely blaming Sunak for that - he was left fighting on all fronts but predominately internal issues as well as financial.

I am looking forward to there actually being a legislative agenda.

Inward investment has dropped off since Brexit - I hope to see that restored and take note of Marr's comments that we will seem relatively calm given the state of other countries.

The whining from certain quarters is making me roll my eyes though. They've brought this on themselves and appear to be refusing to reflect on that.

DuncinToffee · 06/07/2024 11:10

Shiney new thread, tax voluntary but much appreciated Cake

I have heard so many people from all parties actually say positive things about Sunak and his ability.

Does make you wonder if he'd have been a better PM in a different moment of time within the Tory leadership and party position?

I mean - he chose that time to take it on. And I'm not saying he isn't responsible for many things in the shitshow - I'll never forgive him for Rwanda. Just I wonder sometimes how much we see of the real person and how much we see of the parties puppet.

The one thing I have confidence in with Labour is that Starmer will be the puppet master.

Their TRIP Leading series is excellent too, where they interview a range of really high profile figures (including recently Nancy Palosi, David Blunkett, Angela Raynor and Nadhim Zahawi).

Edited

I would heartily recommend their recent interviews with Wes Streeting, Rachel Reeves and Bridget Phillipson too along with Angela Rayner. Fascinating stuff.

DuncinToffee · 06/07/2024 11:19

People do seem to forget that Sunak has played an active part in the Tory party for years now and that he was Johnson's chancellor.

The mess he inherited, he helped creating

Me too. It’s fabulous.

Just saw that James Daly lost his seat as well Grin

Owlbookend · 06/07/2024 11:30

Hard to try and sum up my feelings the morning after. Part of me can’t help ruminating on the rise of the far right and reform (5 MPs, 4 million votes, won my daughters school mock election convincingly ‘all the boys voted for them’).
It doesn’t feel like 97, but that’s partly the state world & being middle aged I guess. However, just now I saw them all sitting round the cabinet table and I felt a little bit happy and a little be thankful. Hoping they can make some inroads into all the mess the tories have made.

IClaudine · 06/07/2024 10:42

If Hunt's out, then my prediction is Tugendhat will be the new leader.

I fear that’s wishful thinking. I suspect poor Starmer’s going to have to face Badenoch at PMQs. Or as it will become known PM’s interrogations.

If it goes to the Tory membership I’ll be surprised if they go for Tugendhat.

If it goes to the membership I seriously doubt they'll go for Badenoch or Braverman either. But we shall see! Meanwhile, this photo made me smile.

I keep forgetting to switch back to my normal username!

Ds says to keep on eye on Priti Patel as a potential new Tory Leader Shock. She's been keeping her head down.

Much as Tugendhat is one of the more sensible remaining Tory MPs, I don't think the membership will choose him. They'll not listen to Pickles' advice god, when did he become the voice of reason? and they'll choose to go further to the right Hmm

Ds was also pleased that Alicia Kearns had retained her seat: he says she was an excellent chair of the Foreign Affairs Committee.

IClaudine · 06/07/2024 12:16

Patel seems almost moderate compared to the likes of Braverman!
