Starmer's wife's dress is gorgeous 😍

I liked Akshata Murty dress too but maybe a bit of my price range?

NoDishiForRishi · 05/07/2024 16:57

It's a good thing this only comes round every 4 years or so because I have been fit for bugger all today Blush. I've had a (purely medicinal) McDonald's and a full bottle of water and I'm feeling so much better.

Question Time tonight, 9pm on iPlayer!

TooBigForMyBoots · 05/07/2024 16:58

@placemats my in-laws in Lisburn are over the moon.Grin Glad for the SDLP too. Our moderates are Labour's friends and are hopefully best placed to put an end to SF/DUP's collapsing shenanigans.🤞

I've been married for nearly 40 years to a lovely respectful and loving man. It's not really an achievement. Starmer is a decent man but let's not pretend he's a saint. Sunak, Hunt, May and Cameron all seem to have solid marriages but they don't get adulation for this. Let's stick to politics. Good luck to the new government.

Any sign of respect for anyone is a welcome chance after the last government.

Are you saying that Naomi Long wanted a bill passed thot would prevent abusers identities being known for up to 25 years after their deaths Shock or did i misunderstand your post @TooBigForMyBoots ?

I'm saying it was passed.Shock It was stopped because it was challenged in court.

It was rushed through and signed off by the Executive just before Stormount was last collapsed. So it's not wholly Naomi's fault.

Would it be horribly misogynistic to refer to Braverman, Patel and Badenoch as the coven?

40% of MPs are now women, record 264 women MPs

But I thought Labour hated women? Hmm

It’s a lot nicer than my collective name for them.

CassieMaddox · 05/07/2024 17:08

At least Miriam Cates is gone. And JRM. Maybe we can get off the babies nonsense now.

Cornettoninja · 05/07/2024 17:08

Labour makes half of them wear trousers on any given workday.

I heard a clip of Starmer's speech while I was in the car, to paraphrase from memory.

The government will treat everyone in the country with dignity and respect.

That is quite a contrast to the previous government that demonised a whole range of people, and my emphasis, everyone in the country, not all British, or all our people, everyone.

I really liked the emphasis on service. Their service. The appeal to those who didn’t vote Labour was also a welcome change from the divisive tactics of the last few years.

LittleBowSheep · 05/07/2024 16:47

I agree. Unfortunately the prediction polls were showing Braverman and Patel as retaining their seats, as was Badenoch. Three utterly repulsive women.

IDS and Hunt had been predicted to lose but obviously didn't unfortunately.

Another loser prediction that didn't come true was Jenrick. I'd put him in with the 3 witches above, all hideous specimens.

Now the fight starts between them as to who will take over from Sunak and it's going to be ugly. I really need to try and switch off from them now and focus on the positives of what lies ahead for us.

I thought Oliver Dowden would be out and Jenrick. The latter was not only dishonest and corrupt but was trying to stir up trouble over the boat people.

To be fair they will now both have more time to do their patriotic duty and make more babies.

My county stays blue by around 6k votes. Embarrassing.

So did mine but last time it was around 24k votes.

Even if you add the 9k that went to reform instead Hmm I'm happy that in my true blue area the tide at least changed height if it didn't change completely.

Actually I'm gutted out Labour leader didn't get in as I really like her but it just doesn't happen here.

theonewiththeToryMP · 05/07/2024 17:21

Miriam Cates can go back to her profit making , grifting FoodBank App now.

Or teaching...

Notonthestairs · 05/07/2024 17:22

JRM & family are filming a reality show.

Reform gain Thurrock. 5th seat.

Thank you for reminding us that we should not forget the Northern Ireland results. I was particularly pleased to see Ian Paisley junior lose, even though I am not supportive of the victorious party in his now former seat.

BIossomtoes · 05/07/2024 17:27

Oh shit.

Yes, but 6 seats would be worse, because with 6 MPs a party suddenly gets a big chunk of funding.

Notonthestairs · 05/07/2024 17:29

But not as bad as 13 - as per the Exit Poll.
