Thanks for the list of Tory MPs who have lost their seat. Just been filling in the bingo card. Good to see the back of people like Gullis, Cates, Fletcher, Baker, Clarke Smith, et Al. (and many more!)

One person I was actually sad (ish) to see go was Theo Clarke who did some sterling work around maternity care.

Something tells me the King will be very happy about this. I suspect he and Starmer have a lot in common.

I said to DS I had a feeling that King Charles would be really happy with a Labour government - especially one lead by Starmer.

Did not know that @Grantshappsgoodbye

Further research suggests that I shouldn't have taken the comment on Channel 4 last night at face value.

The number appears to be 2 for Short Money and proportionate to share of the vote from the electoral commission.

Notonthestairs · 05/07/2024 17:42

Took a while for Reform 5th MP to be reported - I guess a lot of journalists are quite tired tonight. Less than a hundred votes in it.

I liked Akshata Murty dress too but maybe a bit of my price range?

Style and beauty sourced it, 27500 rs which I think is about €300 whatever that is in sterling.

Cheguevarahamster · 05/07/2024 17:45

Testing that my name has changed back.

Did anyone hear the Kinnock interview on radio 4 about 11.30? It was lovely and very emotional. Kinnock really cracked when Rajan mentioned Starmer going to see him when Glynis died.

Trying to catch up from this morning but yes! I nearly cried with him in the car and wanted to smack Rajan over the head when he was said something like "Oh sorry was it when I mentioned your wife who died in December?" Kinnock was tired and emotional but he really did seem warm and genuine which was so refreshing. He was warning it will take a couple of years to see change but it will come.

Re NI - I'm no where near top of the thread but am also interested in SF now potentially unifying Ireland or trade or EU stance...anything really. I thought we had a poster over there but I know life takes over sometimes.

Back to try to catch up!

Really appreciate how the shadow cabinet have been brought over - as somebody mentioned, usually there is so much politicking as the new PM juggles internal factions, using Cabinet appointments to shore up support and fend off rivals (Johnson as Foreign Secretary springs to mind).

This seems like a smooth transition in comparison.

It's a good thing this only comes round every 4 years or so because I have been fit for bugger all today Blush. I've had a (purely medicinal) McDonald's and a full bottle of water and I'm feeling so much better.

Question Time tonight, 9pm on iPlayer!

Luckily I had the afternoon off.

I can't believe I used to enjoy all nighters.

This is one of the side effects of a damn good majority. Plenty of choice and very little chance for small pressure groups (ERG anyone ?) to have a bearing on the mainstream.

As we leave The Tories 2010-2024 in the rear view mirror, we'll start to see how the conned the electorate about their unity. "Strong and Stable" my arse. They were the original coalition of chaos.

theonewiththeToryMP · 05/07/2024 17:55

Just seen that Alba lost their deposit in all the seats they contested.

tobee · 05/07/2024 17:56

Which reminds me Alex Salmond looked staggeringly unhealthy in the coverage

DuncinToffee · 05/07/2024 17:57

Some easy things they do to change the countries psyche is to change the God awful information posters found within public bodies away from the authoritative tone, towards a collaborative one. It would make the first impression of our country better as people come through customs.

The police work with our consent, so softening those messages so it's not so combatative.

The tone of letters coming out from the NHS, benefits offices, DVLA, could all be tweaked to ensure people can take ownership of their own shit and work with government bodies so that things work better.

It won't cost much, if anything, but could make a big difference to how the government is seen.

L1ttledrummergirl · 05/07/2024 18:01

I'm glad we have a transport minister, I'm hoping my new MP will have an appointment with her ASAP. There is something they need to fix, and it shouldn't cost them a penny.

newnamethanks · 05/07/2024 18:17

Just realised bloody Robert Jenrick is still hanging around. Why? Voters, what happened? He's a blot on the landscape.

Luckily I had the afternoon off.

I can't believe I used to enjoy all nighters.

For the love of God, if anyone catches me saying I’m going to pull an all nighter and then go to work for a full day again stop me.

I’m the wrong side of 40 to be doing that. If I can’t get the day off work I’m going to bed.

Saucery · 05/07/2024 18:22

I just watched Hunt’s Labrador leaving 11 Downing St and can’t lie, it’s the first time I’ve felt sad about any of the Tory Labradors having to move house suddenly. 🎾 🎾 Sad

L1ttledrummergirl · 05/07/2024 18:24

I took this morning off but worked this afternoon. Fortunately working from home though as combined with my stinking cold after last night, I'm good for nothing now. I didn't even open the fizz as I was feeling rough.

It turns out someone I was in the office with on Mon has just tested positive for covid so I think my cold may not be a cold. I won't know until I test tomorrow.
