I've only just been able to switch on today but I've seen him and victoria together on footage and said to my husband he feels such a respectful family man who adores his wife as he should and how she loves him compared to the sleeze of recent times just feels so refreshing aparinately she was in the crowd and he stopped everything to go get her.

What’s your issue with respect for your wife, @derxa?

Zonder · 05/07/2024 13:34

Did anyone hear the Kinnock interview on radio 4 about 11.30? It was lovely and very emotional. Kinnock really cracked when Rajan mentioned Starmer going to see him when Glynis died.

The "FPTP is a con" threads are growing. I despair.

The "FPTP is a con" threads are growing. I despair.

Remember we had a referendum on replacing FPTP and the alternative was firmly rejected, and we know that the will of the people as expressed in referendum's is sacrosant and cannot ever be gone against.

Or should we be pleased that more people are engaging with the political system?

Igotjelly · 05/07/2024 13:44

Isn’t the Scottish Parliament built on a type of proportional representation in order to prevent one party having too much power? Because that’s worked so well…..

goingtohellinahandcart · 05/07/2024 13:46

Anybody seen anything from clav

in NI , looks like DUP not doing well & Ian Paisley jnr predicted to lose (. A paisley apparently in that seat over 50 years)

grew up in the 80s in NI but I think I will see a United Ireland in my lifetime ( but that’s another thread)

He's out. Yeeoooo. Now Westminster gets the Jim Allister Experience.🙈

Evenstar · 05/07/2024 13:53

I found a list of Tories that have lost their seats if it’s helpful for anyone https://www.indy100.com/politics/tory-mp-defeat-general-election

I’ve used it for my big bingo poster

Sorry - you rolled your eyes. What’s your issue? Do you not think he does respect her? What’s your evidence for that?

Evenstar · 05/07/2024 14:09

Just realised that list isn’t 100%, as I think it may not show new candidates who weren’t formerly MP’s, I also found Peter Bottomley had lost his seat. Still it was a start as so many to cross off!

TimeForRishiByeByes · 05/07/2024 14:15

Sorry you had to roll your eyes at me it's incredibly old fashioned of me but unfortunately I do like to see couples loving and looking after each other!

TheABC · 05/07/2024 14:20

I like the emphasis on fairness, hope and service. It felt statesmanlike.
I know I will be critical in the coming days, but this hit the right note.
Keir deserves enormous credit for reforming the Labour party into a credible force, even if it was the Tories election to lose.

Any NI MNetters summarise what this all means for Northern Ireland ?

Not a lot beyond we have a Labour government rather than a Tory one, hurray.

The DUP did badly. Ian Paisley Jr's face was a picture as he went up to the podium. Jim Allister of the TUV won it. He's an arch brexiteer and had a pact with Reform UK before Nigel decided to run and ditched them for Ian Jr and Sammy Wilson of the DUP. Jim's a wee evil leprechaun of a man.

Robin Swan won a seat for UUP. He's a decent sort. Was our Minister for Health during Covid.

Alliance took Lagan Valley from the DUP. It was Jeffrey Donaldson's seat, the new DUP guy lost. I'm glad to see it go Alliance's way.

Sinn Fein are now NI's biggest parliamentary party. But they don't sit or vote.

So it all now depends on how well our Assembly get on with the Labour government. I hope Hillary Benn gets the Sec of State for NI post.

I've been married for nearly 40 years to a lovely respectful and loving man. It's not really an achievement. Starmer is a decent man but let's not pretend he's a saint. Sunak, Hunt, May and Cameron all seem to have solid marriages but they don't get adulation for this. Let's stick to politics. Good luck to the new government.

I'm loving this thread from John Amaechi

I am. I’m a fucking delight. It’s well known.
Nobody was giving adulation or saying Starmer was a saint for being respectful of his wife. Just that it was nice to see when not too long ago we had Johnson of the unknown number of children, alleged violence, sexual incontinence etc etc.
