Rishi has become the fall guy for the most corrupt British government in my lifetime. What an absolute shower. Boris Johnson, Liz Truss, the Moggy. How the fuck have we all survived them?

With PTSD, in many cases, I'm certain.

And plenty of victims of austerity didn't survive.

user8800 · 05/07/2024 12:20

Gosh.
King Charles doesn't look well...

user8800 · 05/07/2024 12:20

SerendipityJane · 05/07/2024 12:15

You can't have everything.

Where would you put it ?

Ha!
I'd find room....:)

user8800 · 05/07/2024 12:21

I can't find VT of my constituency result...

Keir is at the palace meeting the King.
As a Republican, I find this part of the process a total nonsense.

I think it's great

DuncinToffee · 05/07/2024 12:23

There is something odd about that photo, tilting left a bit.

SerendipityJane · 05/07/2024 12:23

I agree with whoever said the coverage was poor,

Not just me getting old then.😀

BBC was just weird. So many boxes on screen with so little information. And the almost permanent nannycam pictures on the right were a bit of a waste of screen estate. I guess they had to find a way to shrink Laura Ks grimace.

cakeorwine · 05/07/2024 12:23

Vote share is interesting - if you add up Labour, Green, Lib Dem, SNP vs Conservative and Reform, it's clear there is a difference in vote share

Congratulations PM Keir Starmer

I agree. Now he has to get on with it for the good of the country.

SerendipityJane · 05/07/2024 12:27

Any NI MNetters summarise what this all means for Northern Ireland ?

BestIsWest · 05/07/2024 12:30

I’m quite emotional watching this. I keep thinking of Gordon Brown walking out of Downing Street with Sarah and his children.

Looks like the Express in keen on proportional representation

How under proportional representation Nigel Farage's Reform UK would have won 93 seats | Politics | News | Express.co.uk

Funny how it's not ok when the Conservatives win

My DF was always totally opposed to PR because it encourages extremists. I can sort of see why.

Congratulations PM Keir Starmer

Yes, I’m very relieved was beginning to think I’d never see another Labour government in my lifetime.

Well, Nige, me old grifter. You now have the job of persuading a party with a majority of over 150 won with the current system, that the current system "isn't working".

See you in 2029.

cakeorwine · 05/07/2024 12:33

We did have a referendum on PR.
Maybe people have changed their mind, given what's happened

/irony/

Not a big fan of excluding people for the "wrong" views. That's almost how we ended up with the Reform situation

More of a problem is done wrong PR leads to all sorts of dodgy deals hat are done in darkness. I give you the 2017-2019 UK parliament, Tories propped up with a totally opaque deal with the DUP that no one could challenge. In fact that is the poster child for "no PR".

cakeorwine · 05/07/2024 12:36

Ooooh. Exciting

I know a new MP from my previous life!!!

IClaudine · 05/07/2024 12:37

I note one of Farage's first tweets about his new job is focused on drinking buddies.

Well done, people of Clacton. You deserve all you get.

Technically it wasn't PR.

And referenda should be explicitly banned by whatever means our constitution can do it. Same way we banned Germany from having them after the war.

I like it too. But then I’m that weird hybrid - a socialist/monarchist.

Rishibyebye · 05/07/2024 12:38

if Rishi has said he's standing down will he form an opposition cabinet? or will that wait?

IClaudine · 05/07/2024 12:39

I predict a rash of threads on how we need PR. One has started already.

placemats · 05/07/2024 12:39

I'm not crying! I'm crying happy tears 😀

RishiAteMyHamster · 05/07/2024 12:40

God - I'm feeling very emotional watching him go into no 10.
