6 seats left to declare. I just want it all over without reform getting any more seats. Do we know when they will finally declare?

I can see three Scottish and the other half of Basildon outstanding. The (other) Basildon constituency already declared was the one that came down to a majority of 20 votes, so maybe these are all very extremely close ones requiring recounts, although one of the Scottish ones out standing includes islands so there may be logistical issues.

LiterallyOnFire · 05/07/2024 08:45

Oh and Hendon. I can't find the other one and I'm going cross eyed.

It'll be quite the irony of the Tories and Reform want PR and LibDems are a bit better off without it.

I can't wait for all the MN threads on how Reform should be the opposition.

Of course, with PR there wouldn't be such a need for a protest vote, so it maybe wouldn't go the way they are trying to suggest it would...

Didn't take long did it.

Just checked. 196 votes for KJK

Isn't her single issue the most important one in most voters thinking? How could she get less than 200 votes if it's the big issue?

pointythings · 05/07/2024 08:52

My sleep window has just passed, I also had coffee an hour ago so it may have to be an afternoon nap.

Watching C4 and wanting to murder Mad Nad - she's stupid, annoying, petulant and disrespectful. On the other hand I really admire Harriet Harman, who's bene wonderful.

grannycake · 05/07/2024 08:54

Very happy here in Wales. Local very good labour MP re-elected and no tories in Wales. Most tories on my personal shitlist have gone

Great night

I am quite looking forward to Farage having to do some work. I get the feeling he won't like it up 'im to badly quite Dad's Army.

Yes, spoken to a couple of other political types who agreed Labour got a lot of Green and LD votes last night as a show of solidarity.

Evenstar · 05/07/2024 08:59

We fell asleep after hearing Mogg had gone and that we had successfully got Labour over the line for the first time in 32 years in our constituency. We saw Keir Starmer speak and then put the TV off.

Thanks everyone for your company and all the comments which have helped me catch up this morning.

A hard road is still ahead, but I hope that we will stick together in this amazing group, I am sure there will still be much to talk about but I feel better knowing that the grown ups are in charge.

Farage never did any work when he was an MEP. He's a disruptor, not a grafter. Let's hope that the people that voted for him never find themselves in need of their constituency MP's help.

Well I haven't felt this tired in a long time but my it's worth it!

Our bit of Surrey has stayed blue, sigh

And ours. Less than 900 votes (the maths is beyond me right now). Really disappointing on an otherwise not disappointing night.

RishiAteMyHamster · 05/07/2024 09:05

Just had to have a little nap and woke up to Greg Hands losing!

We are the part that Hunt didn't want, I blame it on the other town(s)Wink

RafaistheKingofClay · 05/07/2024 09:13

Mogg being the seat to push Labour over the line was the icing on the cake. Commiserations to those who still have Tory MPs.

My life has taught me that people learn best from their own mistakes. Clacton is about to figure it out, I have faith.

"Labour won 410 seats, but the other parties weren't trying to win seats so it doesn't count" is the implication of a lot of takes floating around

Yes, don't understand it. They had a ruthlessly efficient vote share. Corbyn piled up votes in specific areas, but this was targeted and coordinated - and was part of their core strategy.

And for every L/D or Green voter that held their nose to vote Labour, there are voters like me that have had to vote tactically the other way around for years.

medianewbie · 05/07/2024 09:23

My county stays blue by around 6k votes. Embarrassing.

Ursula von der Leyen

Congratulations Keir_Starmer on your electoral victory. I look forward to working with you in a constructive partnership to address common challenges and strengthen European security.

Constructive.

That is a brilliant word to use. Constructive engagement with the EU, Constructive engagement with doctors, teachers, nurses, and a whole range of others.
That will without costing anything start to help things improve.

Right I need a new username.
