My area has gone from Tory to Lib Dem, so that’s a good result.

I’m abroad and couldn’t watch to see Laura K’s devastated face.

Zonder · 05/07/2024 07:31

I fell asleep at 2am and am just catching up with everything. Tories gone here, amazingly. Delighted by the giants who have tumbled.

Zonder · 05/07/2024 07:31

Any highlights I missed?

Reform has a bigger share of the vote share than Lib Dems 😬 Very concerning

It'll be quite the irony of the Tories and Reform want PR and LibDems are a bit better off without it.

I can't wait for all the MN threads on how Reform should be the opposition.

TheTwirlyPoos · 05/07/2024 07:33

I've voted Tory many times but Dorries was an absolute disgrace last night. It was embarrassing to watch.

Oh so many! JRM and Liz Truss were the highlights for me. Jess Phillip’s announcement was a particularly low point.

I think as long as we all point out whenever it is raised that we had a referendum on the matter, and the will of the people was to stick with FPTP, it'll be fine!

RosaRoja · 05/07/2024 07:34

So 12 more seats to declare. Surely, they don’t all be Reform? So Reform will have 4 in the end, not the exit poll 16?

Zonder · 05/07/2024 07:34

I need to watch some of these moments today!

Coffey was my favourite, especially when Sky inadveredly announced that the Turnip had been beaten by a Green (it went Labour).

Notonthestairs · 05/07/2024 07:35

I bookmarked this from Wednesday.

"I still can’t get over spectacularly Rwanda and small boats blew up in their face.

In May 2022, 10% of Cons 2019 voters said immigration was a top concern, and among that group 39% said Tories were best on immigration.

Today, 40% say it’s a top concern, but now only 20% of them say Tories are best on the issue, vs 40% who say Reform."

The Conservatives developed a wedge issue which they couldn't control (despite throwing 100s of millions at it) and effectively handed Reform those votes.

It's so important that Labour doesn't do the same.

Zonder · 05/07/2024 07:35

Well done to all who lasted the night.

Any highlights I missed?

Jess Phillips was impressive despite intimidation.

George Galloway going was fun.

Rishi conceded at his own hustings very early.

SNP all but wiped out, which is encouraging.

A whole load of Tory Portillo moments.

Greens did well.

Reform situation is a bit concerning.

That's about it.

It seems to be that they might have all of their MPs already announced.

Whats very clear is that the radical right in this country is on the rise and must be tackled.

And I do not believe that means pandering to them!

Yes it might well stick at 4. With luck.

I need to watch some of these moments today!

Depending on your opinion of Nadune Dorries, she was particularly annoying on ch4.

But there were some entertaining moments from Alistair Campbell telling Mad Nads:
....get over Boris Johnson
....you lost cos you're all.liars
..... corrected her grammar

Grantshappsgoodbye · 05/07/2024 07:38

LiterallyOnFire · 05/07/2024 07:37

So they should get similar coverage to Plaid and the Greens.

RosaRoja · 05/07/2024 07:38

Oh, I agree it’s a concern given the sheer number of people who voted for Reform.

Notonthestairs · 05/07/2024 07:44

I think the supermajority slogan freed people to vote for Reform. If the Conservatives rally around eg Badenoch I think that support will shrivel.

Problem will be that the members will vote for any Tory that brings Farage in.

minou123 · 05/07/2024 07:47

Ah fuck, Steve Baker is back on the BBC.

He is trying to re-write what he said 9 hours ago.
Steve, mate, we all remember what you said at 10pm.

Apparently he is "glad" he lost his seat.
<cough cough bullshit>

RosaRoja · 05/07/2024 07:48

Given how Braverman, Patel, Sunak, a few other ghastly Tories kept their seat, I agree that any blue rosette will get them back in the fold if there’s no other option.

Igotjelly · 05/07/2024 07:58

I hate Nadine’s smirking and chuntering when others are speaking 😡

TokyoSushi · 05/07/2024 07:59

Checking in!

theonewiththeToryMP · 05/07/2024 08:01

It says this on the BBC now

  1. The SNP have taken a battering, losing dozens of seats after dominating Scottish politics for decades

Whilst the first bit may be true, the second bit is arrant ballcocks.
