Staying up all night? What’s your plan?

I am planning to stay up all night tonight. Well, I’ll probably decide after I’ve seen the exit polls at 10. The BBC have some suggestions for the best way to stay awake:

  1. embrace the multi-nap strategy - first one at 21:00 tonight, in time for the 22:00 exit poll, then at 02:00, 06:00 and 14:00 on Friday
  2. but limit naps to between 20-30 minutes and "pre-load" with a caffeine hit just before you sleep
  3. keep hydrated with water but avoid sugar-packed energy drinks and alcohol
  4. keep all the lights on overnight
  5. snack on protein drinks or unsalted nuts (sorry, no chocolate)
Does anyone else have a plan? Eg. When are the first results likely? What would be the best times to nap?

I'm snoozing from. 10.15 - 3am that's when the big ones start to come in.

Chartreux · 04/07/2024 19:28

I'm wondering about which channel to watch. Quite tempted to Channel 4, so I can watch Dorries drinking herself into oblivion and put bets on how long it takes her to nut Alastair Campbell.

Yep- I'm going to bed at 10 and alarm set for 2:45 when I'll relocate to sofa with Rory and Alastair.

MaGueule · 04/07/2024 19:32

Exit poll at 10. Sleep until 3. Coffee, Rory and Alistair. Shower, school run, Work at nine.

You’ve just reminded me to make some 3am breakfast muffins.

TequilaSunsets · 04/07/2024 19:33

Staying up late enough for Miriam Cates to lose her seat, and having a whisky when she does

@MaGueule that is such a good idea!

What time are the first results likely? 1-2am ish?

bergamotorange · 04/07/2024 19:36

I'm going to be channel hopping, I like all the teams on all the channels! Will plan to have a nap but won't. Have bought some nice cheese to keep me going.

A few very early ones, but the main stuff around 2am onwards?

I never end up sleeping though, just in case Hmm

TheChosenTwo · 04/07/2024 19:39

@bergamotorange i have a cheeseboard and a lovely bottle of red I’ve been waiting for a special occasion to drink, cheese and wine for the exit polls and then just watch until I nod off, usually around 2am, alarm goes off at 6 but predict I’ll be awake before then and glued to the results again.
luckily wfh tomorrow so no commute other than to my spare room, will get up with ds and get him sorted with breakfast, wave him off and then have a power hour nap before logging on!

Neurodiversitydoctor · 04/07/2024 19:39

Trying to sleep now I have an alarm set for 10

TheShellBeach · 04/07/2024 19:39

BBC Scotland had the best coverage in the 2019 election.

OublietteBravo · 04/07/2024 19:41

I think my plan is to watch the exit poll, and then sleep until 1.30am. I reckon I’ll be able to grab another 3.5 hours around 5.30am.

HelloDaisy · 04/07/2024 19:43

I’m working at the count so hopefully that will keep me awake! I’ve tried to sleep this afternoon after work but failed..

Should be an exciting night 😁

Talisin · 04/07/2024 19:43

Watch the exit poll, start binge watching S3 of Bridgerton while keeping an eye on the BBC news website. I have wine chilling, snacks and cheese waiting and when it looks like a big result is about to announce, I’ll switch over. If Liz Truss actually loses her seat I’ll call it a night then as that would be hard to top😁

TheInvisibleMann · 04/07/2024 19:43

I was planning on a little kip from 11 to 2.30 ish but the adult DC, who have come home especially for the celebrations have other ideas about staying up all night, so I may get swept along with them.

Namechanged11111 · 04/07/2024 19:46

Sorry for being thick here, but what is the exit pol?

NextFriYAY · 04/07/2024 19:47

Finish work at 8pm, head downstairs and eat dinner with a glass of red. Watch Exit Polls.

Get duvet and sleep / nap on sofa till around 2.30 / 3am. Drink coffee and I have strawberries, good Greek yoghurt and lovely granola to snack on. Drink a whiskey when / if JRM, Shapps, McVey lose their seats. And when my local MP hopefully is our Labour candidate.

Nap on and off. Watch news at 6am. Doss about all day tomorrow.

I’m off work till Tuesday 😁

Ooh yes please.

NextFriYAY · 04/07/2024 19:48

Oh yes, to see Truss go would be a wonderful thing.

Lara333 · 04/07/2024 19:49

Food planned including a good old cream tea.

Watching tv from 10.00pm for as long as I can stay awake.

I like the excitement of the first result - usually Sunderland at about 10.45 and then I'm hooked!

PomomPomBears · 04/07/2024 19:49

I'm planning to watch the exit polls then will wake up early to see what's going on. I have to work tomorrow and do school run 😴

vodkaredbullgirl · 04/07/2024 19:49

Sleeping

LawrieForShepherdsBoy · 04/07/2024 19:54

Sleeping now as exhausted. Alarm set for 230, will join dd who says she’s doing an all nighter. Dh and dd at shops now sorting breakfast treats.

Welshphoenix · 04/07/2024 19:58

I usually stay until about 2 then have a snooze until my area is due to come in around 4.30 and stay up from there. Always book the day after an election off work
