Likelihood of neighbours exploding with rage

The live next door. We both have detached houses. Gardens run alongside for about 40’ and then our plot has a field and paddock attached and then it’s open countryside for literally miles.

The neighbours hate forriners. We are forrin and slightly brown. They moved from their last house to “get away from that sort of thing” and must have been horrified to see us!

Anyway they have complained about pretty much everything they can. Noisy mower. Noisy children. Holiday cottage (tiny, for 2 people) at the end of the field. Our BBQ. Our chimnea. Not putting the bin away quick enough, and the outdoor solar fairy lights being too bright and on a flashy pattern.

They are only mid 30s and have two young children who they won’t let play in the garden in case someone from the holiday cottage sees them because literally any paedo could be in there, etc.

Latest was that they objected to me and DH quietly chatting on the patio at the outrageously late hour of 10:30, Saturday before last. They come round and stand with their finger on the ring doorbell, ranting.

Anyway, the local farmer has delivered two beehives and they’re buzzing away beautifully, in our garden. They are placed in such a way that forces them to fly up and over, away from the neighbours but some of them are quite disobedient.

I don’t think the neighbours have noticed yet. But they’re going to go crackers aren’t they?

I’ve read the whole thread - anyone who thinks you’re being unreasonable is frankly an idiot. These people sound abusive and racist and you’re right for reporting them to the police. How dare they! Is all I was thinking the whole time I was reading this!

ZippyDenimBear · 07/08/2024 09:16

You sounds awesome.

Frankly, your life sounds good to me too!!

Sorry you've got to put up with the sad bully living next door.

Hmmmm. It is of course possible that the neighbours are howling lunatics who dislike you because of your skin colour. Then again I’m fairly sure I’d find living next to you a pain in the arse too. I don’t give a shit about fairy lights but I’m going to assume you have noisy pricks in your holiday home, and I’d bet my bottom dollar you’re a LOT noisier on your patio than you think you are (no one ever thinks they’re being noisy). Plus you seem to do a lot of random noisy smelly smoky stuff in your garden. And BEES?!?! Why the fuck have you got bees.

I think you need to accept your neighbours probably have a point and try and reach some kind of truce before this escalates.

You do know what bees do? Without bees and other pollinating insects, the human race would become extinct.

Yes, really.

ruby1957 · 07/08/2024 15:49

You are being an awful neighbour - being slightly brown does not excuse your behaviour at all.

I am sure your neighbours have suffered from your actions that you seem oblivious to - yet here you are egged on by the MN harpies to be an even worse neighbour. I hope the police laughed behind your back at your complaints. Ever hear of consideration and respect for others.

Incidentally if your neighbours were slightly brown and complained about you - would you bend over backwards to make sure they were mollified?.

willitevergetwarm · 07/08/2024 16:04

You sound like my sort of neighbour OP. I also enjoy my garden, sitting quietly with my husband after a long week at work, odd BBQ - no chimnea though. Why have a garden if you can't relax in it because you have knobheads for neighbours
Luckily for me my neighbours aren't like this as they know that we are not outside any later than 11pm

I'm curious ruby. Exactly what is the op doing that you object to?

What sort of consideration are you referring to? What would you like to happen? I’m all all all ears! The police are treating it as harassment, and in line with the other vexatious complaints that my delightful neighbours have made, (not detailed here) there is a clear pattern so they really do need to be careful.

What behaviour have I attempted to excuse because of race? Sitting in my garden doing the crossword?

Your neighbours sound detangled! I'd put a big sail cloth to block them filming into your garden (you could add a message written on the top side).
I'm also wondering if Ruby is your neighbour.

Oh the irony.

Btw I don't think Rubes is a fan of forriners, cf. her posts on another thread about the riots.

Allthehorsesintheworld · 07/08/2024 17:03

I need to know more about the smokeless log.
I think your neighbours are probably jealous, you have more land ( how very dare you ) you have a holiday let ( envy envy). And worst of all —- you seem happy. Complete arses the pair of them.

Iwant20cats · 07/08/2024 17:36

What is a smokeless log?never heard of that.
Oh and I hope your neighbours get chased by a large swarm of angry bees, or maybe even wasps 😆

Yup.
The racists are really revealing themselves more and more and more.
Bit scary really.

I’ve spoken at length to both hives. I’ve said “don’t go near next door because they are arseholes.”

You're supposed to tell the bees your secrets, not something that's blatantly obvious to everybody.

Setorrunny · 07/08/2024 18:02

Smokeless logs are about £3 and they’re wrapped in paper and made out of squashed up sawdust and some sort of flammable thing and you just light the wrapper. They’re what you have to use at Centerparcs. <posh>

Sounds great, I think you should get a flagpole next.

Setorrunny · 07/08/2024 18:10

DH said about a flagpole. And alternate it between Poland (they don’t like the polish) and some other obscure African nation. I thought it was mad at first but it’s an idea that’s growing on me.

Smart as a carrot is a phrase much used in the Army Reserve, especially when preparing for a parade.

Your first sentence is really confusing.

What behaviour would be excusable if you were slightly brown, or any other colour for that matter?

What an odd thing to write.

Projectme · 07/08/2024 20:14

Does angry neighbour man kick off verbally at your DH too? You only mention that you answer his constant ringing; just wondering if DH ever answers the door and gets same treatment (or does angry neighbour man just save his tirades for you?)

keepYourDogQuiet · 07/08/2024 20:18

I know you are making light of it but it sounds horrible and your area sounds horribly gossipy too.

He saves them for me. He’s a fucking bully. DH works away a lot so he knows I’m here with the kids on my own a lot. It’s usually when there are strange cars in the drive that he really complains because this is actually about the guests in the cottage and pedos and forriners. And how under no circumstances whatsoever must he be upset, and women should be like his wife and do exactly as they are told.

I’m sorry that you’ve have to put up with this and it makes it even more important that you’ve reported it to the police. A man who waits for an occasion to avoid the husband and bully the woman is scum.

Setorrunny · 07/08/2024 20:49

I’m much more calm and measured and I think things would escalate if he behaved like that directly to DH. DH is furious too but I think it wouldn’t help if he lost his rag and told him to fuck off. So I’m going with quiet disobedience.

Your post made me laugh. You might be forrin but you’ve got the British dry humour down.
