Do you like strongly scented laundry?

I cannot wear clothes unless they smell really strongly of the washing powder. I think it’s a throwback to being a student and putting deodorant over mildew stained clothes 😅

It makes me twitchy if I can’t smell detergent! Please tell me I’m not completely mad

No, I don't like smelly clothes!

Funkyfizz · 03/07/2024 22:08

i love my laundry smelling of fabric softener. I like trying all the different ones. .

spikeandbuffy · 03/07/2024 22:10

Although to be fair I'm using surf tropical powder at the minute but only as it's £14 for a box that will last me a year thrifty

Interesting. I can't bear strongly scented laundry. Make me feel nauseous, and I will move if sitting next to someone whose clothing reeks of detergent.I shop a lot on ebay and have to launder pre-loved purchases to get rid of artificial fragrance. It's grim.

S0livagant · 03/07/2024 22:13

If I've stored things a while then I will add a few drops of essential oil to the white vinegar for the rinse.

QueenOfHiraeth · 03/07/2024 22:14

I know it's unpopular on here but I love laundry to smell clean, fresh and scenty. Sadly my washing machine has other ideas and, no matter what I use or however much of it I use, the washing just comes out clean.
I even bought that washing stuff that MNetters raved about in the Oud fragrance which is pleasant but still faint

GingerPirate · 03/07/2024 22:14

F no.
Clean laundry yes, but artificial smells turn my stomach.
(Includes some sanitary products, too).

HandymcCandy · 03/07/2024 22:16

No..i hate it. I don't buy off ebay etc because of this

Alwayswonderedwhy · 03/07/2024 22:17

No. I find it totally overbearing. I've had to get rid of things I've bought on vinted that must've been washed with those awful sent booster things, the smell doesn't wash out even after several washes.

RenaissanceBaby · 03/07/2024 22:19

Also hate it. Gives me complete sensory overload and it’s really intrusive if someone near you smells of it. Just so powerful and overwhelming, like you can’t escape from it. Really vile 🤢

MadYoke · 03/07/2024 22:19

Absolutely hate perfumed laundry detergent. I like no scent at all.

worcesterpear · 03/07/2024 22:20

I don't like strong fabric conditioner smells, but do like a bit of a fresh laundry smell, love the smell of ozone from clothes hung outside and also think powder smells nice and clean (I like lavender).

purplecube · 03/07/2024 22:21

I’m the opposite, I don’t like it when clothes smell of laundry detergent, I prefer them to smell of nothing (or of fresh air - l like the smell of washing that’s dried outside).

solsticelove · 03/07/2024 22:22

Ugh no, strong dislike for strong artificial softener scents on people. Nauseating and actually induces headaches for me (same with perfumes and aftershaves).

I’m an ex teacher and alway used to feel sorry for the kids whose uniforms stank of very strong fragrance following them round all day.

Also I avoid them as artificial fragrance are known for being endocrine disrupters.

InSpainTheRain · 03/07/2024 22:23

I hate strongly smelling detergent - mostly because it gives me a migraine. I find it really inconsiderate when ppl smell of it at work. I use ecover zero.

tillyandmilly · 03/07/2024 22:23

I use fairy liquid and a softener - I like my bed sheets to have a scent

StripeyDeckchair · 03/07/2024 22:26

I hate artificially scented laundry - it's so chemical and an irritant.

I only use unscented laundry products. The best is laundry dried outside.

leeverarch · 03/07/2024 22:28

I like clean washing to smell of clean washing. You sometimes find scented candles called 'fresh linen' - that sort of thing. Just clean smelling with a faint hint of laundry powder and that fresh air scent you get off line-dried clothes.

They ought to say imo. Maybe list with smoking and pets.

verylongday · 03/07/2024 22:31

I absolutely loathe laundry smelling of all that cheap chemical crap. It makes me feel ill. Why would anyone want to stink of something that's 10 a penny in B&M?
I volunteer in a charity shop. Opening a bag that stinks of laundry stuff is worse than clothes that just stink. I absolutely hate it

LifeofBrienne · 03/07/2024 22:33

Nope, I don’t want my clothes to smell overpowering, nor my flat (we dry clothes inside). Ideal for me is a very light washing powder smell that is undetectable unless you stick your nose on the fabric and sniff.

CoastalCalm · 03/07/2024 22:34

I’m the opposite don’t like my clothes to smell of any perfumes , if I go to stay somewhere and the bed linen is highly perfumed it makes me feel sick

CameToASuddenArborealStop · 03/07/2024 22:39

I find scented washing products overpowering and wheezy.

Scented dishwasher tablets are even worse, I’m considering leaving my reuseable cup in the garden for a few weeks to get rid of the overpowering smell of someone else’s dishwasher tablets. It’s making my tea taste of artificial violets - it’s awful!

I have COPD and strong scented laundry is one of the triggers for a bad attack.

This. It also causes problems for people with asthma and fragrance allergies. Fragrance chemicals are also often pretty toxic generally. I have fragrance allergies and having stopped all fragrances product and now can't bear the smells of fragrance (even if they don't cause me a reaction) as they are now really overpowering.

Borborygmus · 03/07/2024 22:42

Clean laundry should not smell of anything. Mind you, I hate perfume of all kinds.
