Do you like strongly scented laundry?

I cannot wear clothes unless they smell really strongly of the washing powder. I think it’s a throwback to being a student and putting deodorant over mildew stained clothes 😅

It makes me twitchy if I can’t smell detergent! Please tell me I’m not completely mad

Yes but not too floral or sickly. I like the fairy outdoorable softener best, closely followed by comfort blue outdoorable but only buy when it's on offer as it's too bloody expensive.

I do like my washing to smell like it’s been washed but I wouldn’t like it to be so overpowering that you get a headache when you wear it.

I do occasionally use a Scent Booster in the wash but only a minimum amount so you get a pleasant smell but not to the point of migraine status!

The worst is when you stay somewhere and they've used fragranced stuff on the bedding as you can't escape it.

They ought to say imo. Maybe list with smoking and pets.

When my DC were small I was quite active on buying and selling groups for slings, cloth nappies, baby clothing brands like Kite and Frugi, etc. It was (and probably still is) normal for sellers to do exactly that, usually saying something like 'smoke and pet free, low-scent home'.

Thank you for the link@solsticelove , though that article does seem to demonstrate confirmational bias, and I am not so naive as to base opinion on one article. I used to be more naive when certain groups tried to get me to believe their point of view by doing their evidence search for them (the ultimate conformational bias), not any more. But I do appreciate your link. And I agree big companies just want profit, but if their products are harmful to children then they will lose a huge amount of customer confidence and thus market share.

I can't stand plug ins, air fresheners ,was melts, reed diffusers, potpourri or anything like that, ditto stinky body sprays and overpowering perfumes, they all affect my asthma whereas a little fabric conditioner with a small amount of scent booster doesn't!

anunlikelyseahorse · 04/07/2024 10:41

When I was pregnant the smell of laundry detergent made me heave, it was awful! It carried on for sometime after my pregnancies too. I now like clothes to smell fresh and clean, but I don't like a strong scent.

anunlikelyseahorse · 04/07/2024 10:42

Can't stand fabreze though, it clings to fabric, even after washing 🤮

Christ 😂 asked for that one didn’t I. I don’t own an xl bully.

Dont any of your wear scented things at all then? Just swanning about smelling of fresh air?

I like my clothes to smell of fresh air, and I have a light spray of perfume. I don't want cheep laundry smells overpowering my fragrence

BlankTimes · 04/07/2024 11:09

I prefer natural freshness to artificial odours anyway.

When you have a family member with asthma, eczema or strong sensitivities which precludes the use of strong scent in your own home, you notice it much more in other peoples' homes or generally out and about.

Essential oils didn't cause any adverse reaction in our home, but their scent is not as overpowering as long as its only a few drops and it is short lived.

QueenOfHiraeth · 04/07/2024 12:01

@icelolly12 It was Tallow + Ash. They do some nice scents but it didn't have quite the impact I hoped for

erikbloodaxe · 04/07/2024 12:21

Tallow and Ash do the most beautiful range of scents. Smells nothing like regular washing detergent. Oud is my favourite followed closely by Duvet Day. Give them a try Op. Not cheap and don't smell cheap nor are they overpowering.
