@tobee

No need to be sorry. I was voting tactically to boot my SNP mp out. I stood at the booth for ages dithering between voting labour and voting tactically before I put my cross on the slip.

Btw It's very horrible weather here in Glasgowshire. Cold, windy and lashing with rain. I've turned the heating on 😩

Notonthestairs · 04/07/2024 14:28

After 2pm so John Curtice will have a good idea of the result already.

I see the copy and paste queen is busy posting links to politicians’ covid infringements. I can’t imagine anyone’s reading them.

Did anyone ever ?

NoDishiForRishi · 04/07/2024 14:30

I've bought myself some all butter scones that I intend to have with some clotted cream and blackcurrant jam this evening.

My parents and DH have been to vote this afternoon, polling station was busy apparently, mum and dad had to queue for a bit.

Our seat is currently Tory, long standing MP but quite unpopular and boundary changes mean it’s 50/50 to go Labour. Could be as little as 2-300 votes in it 🙏🏻

I wonder if there may be a lot of recounts as a Labour Party friend in the Tory constituency we used to live in says there is a similar prediction there.

DH has gone down to go out door knocking and taken my cake contribution down to the campaign HQ, my back is playing up so I am staying in ☹️

If I lived near you, I'd be around to grab some cakes Grin

only the first time i encountered that poster, before i realised i'd have the same end result smacking my head repeatedly into a brick wall.

prettybird · 04/07/2024 14:42

If you're in the constituency I think you're in @mibbelucieachwell , the SNP lost two voters last year with both my dad and his neighbour dying Sad (my dad unexpectedly even though he was 87 Sad, his neighbour earlier in the year from an aggressive and nasty form of MND Sad).

I suspect that the LibDem candidate will win as it was so close last time.

Can we have a thread title in his honour?
Sunak : on his majesty's secret Curtice.

That sounds amazing. Blackcurrant jam with scones is the business. None of this strawberry nonsense 🍓😍

Well there's been a lot of postal votes (except for those disenfranchised by papers not arriving in post esp on Scotland) so he might have a good idea already?

Thought I would share the cross stitch kit DS bought me for Christmas. Finished just in time (ignore my mistakes!)

What time shall we start the GE Night thread?

@medianewbie - i didn't think that they are allowed to count or even look at postal votes until polls close at 10pm.

Not sure if they're still allowed to open the envelopes - but if they are, they have to stay face down. I'll need to go off and check. Wink

I have a vague recollection of of Ruth Davidson getting into trouble one election for implying that she knew what the postal votes were.

Evenstar · 04/07/2024 14:54

@BIossomtoes I replied once and greeted with a volley of irrelevant C and P articles I am now ignoring.

Tone deaf to keep going on a thread where people have shared so many distressing personal experiences.

user8800 · 04/07/2024 14:55

I won't be home until 10.30pm :(

Ugh. I'm like an ill sitting hen! 😬🐔 I can't settle at all

Loving the dogs at polling stations pics 📸 🐶

TimeForRishiByeByes · 04/07/2024 14:56

I did a postal votes this year as I have a young one I couldn't guarantee being able to get to the station and i couldn't risk not getting my vote. But I explained it to them and why and why mummy wanted them to go to school under labour and we took it to the post box and she posted it for me 😆
@Evenstar those little rosettes on your doggy have made my day.

I know. I’ve cried three times reading that thread. I’m ignoring too.

Yes and they get data from multiple sources throughout the day to model.

I'm sure I've read that morning voters lean Conservative, evening Labour/left. Can't find it now.

Clip of Curtice confirming when he usually knows the result.

Wasn't that Laura Kuenssberg? Or maybe both

I don't think they can look but the numbers can reveal trends surely.

prettybird · 04/07/2024 15:00

I've checked: the postal votes are verified but not counted until the rest of the count is started. They have to be stored securely until that time.

This screenshot from Full Fact is the clearest summary.

What trends would they reveal other than the overall numbers of postal votes that have been returned? Confused
