Just got back from voting. Usually do it before dinner (around 7pm) but I guess the occasion got the better of me.

First time in 42 years of voting I have ever had to queue. While I was there there was a steady queue of about 20 people (for 4 different wards). I asked the clerks if it was just because I was there during the day, and they indicated that no - this was something extraordinary.

However I stand by my turnout prediction of 68%

Bloody windy though. I guess that's change a-coming.

BestIsWest · 04/07/2024 12:50

Yes, it’s really windy here too. At least it’s dry though. We’re round the corner from the polling station so a steady stream of passers by is keeping the dog occupied.

KitKatChunki · 04/07/2024 12:54

I just got home and googled my candidates - when I was there the slip I got only had Lab/Con/Reform from my area then Lib Dem and SNP and Green from the next town (it said underneath them who was from where). I was forced to vote for the party with the person in the next town because they didn't have the guy who's flyer I had through the door....what on earth is that about? Do I need to tell this guy he isn't on our polling slip?

Escentricmolecule · 04/07/2024 12:55

Signs of a good turnout warms my heart.

I'm wfh today and am already very tired. I'm planning on having a disco nap at 4pm when I finish.

Lots of "should I/shouldn't I vote for xyz" threads popping up all over MN today...

NoDishiForRishi · 04/07/2024 13:02

Saw this on Facebook. Speaks volumes.

We have been out to vote, red coat for me and red rosettes for the pooches, it feels like Christmas Eve when you are little. We have longed for this election, it seems so long ago that I joined the march against proroguing Parliament, it felt very emotional putting the cross in the box today.

I'm glad some of you felt emotional. I did too.

Couldn't do red, loving the effort by people that do, I took an Irish passport as ID (which got questioned and eyes rolling) with a massive bobble in my hair that says "fuck the tories" all over it... in a true blue.. predicted, due to boundary changes, to go Labour.. to vote, along with two DC. really hope it does go red, the MP here has been MP for 14 years and can't wait to see him lose!

Evenstar · 04/07/2024 13:51

Our seat is currently Tory, long standing MP but quite unpopular and boundary changes mean it’s 50/50 to go Labour. Could be as little as 2-300 votes in it 🙏🏻

I wonder if there may be a lot of recounts as a Labour Party friend in the Tory constituency we used to live in says there is a similar prediction there.

DH has gone down to go out door knocking and taken my cake contribution down to the campaign HQ, my back is playing up so I am staying in ☹️

2 election leaflets have just landed on my doormat: the second one from the SNP and the one and only one from the cons. I know it's from the cons as there's a small strap line on the 4th page telling me.

It's all about attacking the SNP. Alix, my dear, this is why DH and I have just voted for the Lib Dems. Grin

There was a man begging in the street outside our polling station.
How anyone could go in and vote Tory was beyond me.
I was red and DH and I both felt emotional. It felt momentous.

tobee · 04/07/2024 14:15

Just been dealing with two (small) emergencies and now come back to this thread and the nerves have set in again. My heart rate has gone up.

tobee · 04/07/2024 14:17

I can hear the libdem's loudly in the street knocking to get the vote out. They can fuck off. Sorry. Maybe

I'm glad some of you felt emotional. I did too.

It felt really momentous putting my X in that box. This is the first election ever in a seat that’s not safe Tory and so it’s actually meant something. You shouldn’t have to be 70 before that happens.

my friend has snazzy dangly earrings "Never Fuck a Tory"
wish i hadn't let my ear piercings close up and i keep procrastinating getting them re-pierced!

prettybird · 04/07/2024 14:23

I noticed that the Reform candidate in my constituency is from North Derbyshire Hmm. Only the Labour candidate was actually down as living in the specific constituency but all of rest of them (except for the Reform woman) live in neighbouring areas of Glasgow, which for a city constituency (which has also had major boundary changes Sad). I don't think that that's that bad Grin

Our previous MP lived in the constituency - and still lives in that constituency although the boundary has been redrawn so he's no longer in mine Sad.

tobee · 04/07/2024 14:25

I was in a Tory seat in 97 where the Labour candidate won. He was one of those who really wasn't expecting to get in. I wonder if there are many like that this time? Needing to give up a career to do something totally different

BIossomtoes · 04/07/2024 14:26

I see the copy and paste queen is busy posting links to politicians’ covid infringements. I can’t imagine anyone’s reading them.
