If you currently have a Tory MP

have they been canvassing in your area?

I have a Tory MP - majority of just over 10k so he will probably lose his seat but not definitely.

The Labour candidate has sent me an entire tree worth of leaflets, had more than one canvasser round and is constantly in the local press meeting people and planting trees.

The Lib Dem candidate has sent me half a tree worth of leaflets and sent a canvasser round.

The pro life independent candidate has sent me a leaflet with lots of pictures of unborn babies on.

The slightly scary anti covid vaccine independent candidate has sent me a leaflet.

The very very scary time travel independent candidate has managed to pull himself together long enough send me a leaflet. It doesn’t make any sense but he managed to get it printed and put it in my letter box.

But from my actual Tory MP - not a sausage.

Actually I am pretty pissed off by all the effing leaflets I've had. They are all bollocks and go straight from my mat to my recycling bin. What a waste of resources. Mostly from Lib Dems, some from Conservatives. No other parties exist here.

Putting · 02/07/2024 22:27

Nothing from the Tories. A couple of leaflets from Labour, but they don’t really seem to be trying, and absolutely inundated with leaflets from the Lib Dems (who I’ll probably vote for, as they generally come a strong second to the Tories here so I think they have a better chance than Labour)

Frosty1000 · 02/07/2024 22:28

They've been out and about, you know the typical photos over fb, fetes etc. labour person too. No doorknockers though which I'm disappointed about as I'd really have something to say to both of them.

We've had so many leaflets and letters, more to my DH - most from labour and one odd letter from Anna Soubury saying she's supporting labour now as well 🤷‍♀️

The only people who have shown up here are the Greens, but they have a good chance of getting in in this seat.
I'll be voting Labour through. Again.

Do Prime Ministers turn up in person in their constituency on election night? So Rishi will be in Yorkshire when results are declared (and then head back to Downing Street to finish packing)?

Countrydiary · 02/07/2024 22:31

Ours is the safest of Tory seats, literally been Conservative every election since it was created (barring a few boundary changes) in the 1920s. Yet Labour are currently marginally ahead in polls. Labour campaigners who usually get little interest in every previous general election are experiencing people being incredibly positive for the first time.

I am still rather unbelieving I could be in a Labour constituency soon!

I think most of the stuff is probably at the other London place he has, where his family live, there was a thread about him packing the other day and someone posted about it there.

MrsWimpy · 02/07/2024 22:37

I moved one street and moved into a new constituency which has tipped me from a fabulous Labour MP (watch this space - he's going places) into a constituency where I'm not super keen on our Labour candidate. It's made it tricky.
Bit disappointing that Labour haven't been round.

CharlotteStreetW1 · 02/07/2024 22:41

I've had leaflets from most of them although sadly not the Monster Raving Loony Party!

Haven't seen our sitting Tory MP but she's been making a name for herself and has been on TV lying about Labour on behalf of Rishi. Shame as she was a good constituency MP when she was first elected. I think she's as safe as any Tory can be. Shame. I really hoped my vote might count for once.

I have seen the Reform candidate a couple of times. He makes my skin crawl.

Haven't seen anyone else.

Yes, that’s exactly right. Expect Sunak to make a speech after his constituency result is announced, then head straight for the nearest airport & fly back to London on a chartered aircraft.
Assuming the Tories have lost, he will ring Starmer to concede & offer his congratulations. Then he will probably make a brief speech in Downing St around breakfast time as his final act as PM before heading off to the Palace to resign.
Meanwhile Mrs Sunak & various flunkies will be finishing the packing & moving out of Number 10.
Stamer will go to the Palace to meet the King & be appointed PM, then his first job will be to appoint his cabinet.

Crucible · 02/07/2024 22:45

He has written to me and sent leaflets (I know him because he has been trying and failing to help me for over a year on a tricky matter). I doubt he will keep his seat and I've got to start all over again with the new guy on Friday.

I was really hoping to get one from them! Might have been the only one I bothered reading

MirandaWest · 02/07/2024 22:48

Most from Labour. A bit from conservative and Lib Dem. I think something from all the independents. Nothing from Green but I suppose that it wouldn’t really be environmentally friendly to send out half a tree.

Badknitter · 02/07/2024 22:49

I’ve had a personally addressed letter, as has DP. But wasn’t expecting much since it turns out he’s bet on himself not getting re-elected

ItsFuckingBoringFeedingEveryoneUntilYouDie · 02/07/2024 22:51

44,000 doors in a constituency, they can't knock on them all.
Royal Mail have monumentally fucked up mailings around here. Ours were sent out within a week of the election being called. They have delivered them to a neighbouring constituency, and theirs into ours. Most of the candidates' leaflets only arrived yesterday or today. Too late for most postal voters. Except RM have screwed those up too.

TimeForMyMonthlyNameChange · 02/07/2024 23:17

Our Tory MP has outright said he thinks Labour will win 😂

Cattenberg · 02/07/2024 23:21

I’m in a Tory/Lib Dem marginal and I’ve had lots of leaflets, but no canvassers on the doorstep. Our Tory MP’s leaflets include the name of the party in small print, perhaps in the hope that voters won’t notice they’re a Tory 😆. I often see different parties canvassing in the town centre, but I haven’t seen a Tory stall in the lead up to this election.

Regardless of party policy, I personally don’t like either of the two frontrunners. One is a snob who struggles to hide their disdain of ordinary people, while I have it on good authority that the other is/was a dodgy landlord who evicted at least one tenant without observing their legal rights.
