If you currently have a Tory MP

have they been canvassing in your area?

I have a Tory MP - majority of just over 10k so he will probably lose his seat but not definitely.

The Labour candidate has sent me an entire tree worth of leaflets, had more than one canvasser round and is constantly in the local press meeting people and planting trees.

The Lib Dem candidate has sent me half a tree worth of leaflets and sent a canvasser round.

The pro life independent candidate has sent me a leaflet with lots of pictures of unborn babies on.

The slightly scary anti covid vaccine independent candidate has sent me a leaflet.

The very very scary time travel independent candidate has managed to pull himself together long enough send me a leaflet. It doesn’t make any sense but he managed to get it printed and put it in my letter box.

But from my actual Tory MP - not a sausage.

Ours has written to DH twice but not to me. He hasn’t heard the end of it from me.😂

We’re in a traditionally safe Conservative seat where based on last local election results, anything could happen. Not sure I’ve seen a Reform leaflet but they’ve all ramped it up this week.

Shadowhunter12 · 02/07/2024 20:36

I think we live in the same constituency! I was just thinking this today. And your breakdown of candidates is very familiar. I went to the hustings on Sunday, some of the independents were very unique...................

ohtowinthelottery · 02/07/2024 20:36

Our Tory MP got ousted from his 20,000+ majority seat at the last bi-election. Our Lib Dem MP, who has done more for this area in 2 years than the Tories did in over 20, is going all out to keep her seat. We've had at least 3 trees worth of leaflets from Lib Dems and our MP knocked on our door. Don't think we've even had a leaflet from Labour. We got one from the Tory candidate but he definitely hasn't been canvassing in our village.

He has held this seat for over 30 years and is a very good local MP. Active in the community and people across the political spectrum around here do rate him. His Labour opponent whittled his majority down to about a 1,000 at the last election and was on course to unseat him this year but Labour suddenly deselected her for completely spurious reasons. She is now running as an independent and I will be voting for her. If she doesn't win I hope he retains his seat. I told his canvassers I could never vote Tory but recognise he has done a good job. The person parchuted in to replace the deposed Labour candidate has been invisible. I haven't seen a single campaign poster, no canvassing. I cannot remember her name.

FofB · 02/07/2024 20:40

Yep. To be fair, he's out and about fairly often, even before the GE. He's usually in one of the main villages most Saturday mornings.

He's also attended a hustings (along with Greens and Labour) in the local college for the post 16 students which was very well attended.

StillNiceCardigan · 02/07/2024 20:42

Our Tory MP has stood down so we have one of Rishi's mates parachuted in as we are in a "safe" Tory seat. I'm not sure he's getting the easy ride he hoped for. We've had leaflets from everyone even the communist party. The Tory hopeful was in our village pub couple of weeks ago and he's definitely out and about in the constituency. It's neck and neck Conservative and Labour here so could go either way.

Miley1967 · 02/07/2024 20:42

We have only had a couple of leaflets from Labour. We are ( were ) a Tory safe seat although constituencies have changed this time.

RightOnTheEdge · 02/07/2024 20:44

I've had leaflets from all of them through the door but haven't seen any of them in person.

Tory always wins here but I've never seen our MP.
The Labour candidate doesn't even live anywhere near this constituency and hasn't turned up to two hustings she was supposed to attend which she's had a lot of criticism for, so maybe the Tory one feels like he doesn't have to bother.

MalcolmTuckersSwearBox · 02/07/2024 20:45

Our local (Tory) MP has been invisible for years. His Labour opponent has canvassed in person, consistently. The last election was narrow majority for my constituency seat and given the perilous position they're in this time, I'm amazed he's not visibly campaigning, kissing babies, doing hustings and knocking doors. The fringe parties haven't canvassed either.

We've had the standard postal election communications from the major parties though.

BobnLen · 02/07/2024 20:46

No one has canvassed up our road just sent leaflets in the post, Labour must have known I was a pensioner as I got a letter solely directed at pensioners. Nothing through the door that the postmen haven't delivered from any party.

Bazinga007 · 02/07/2024 20:46

Our Tory MP has been out and about, not as much the Labour candidate, but the Tory is the deputy prime minister and so has a day job, where as the Labour candidate is an unemployed numpty of Gogglebox and has all day once he has finished watching Homes Under the Hammer.

Got loads of leaflets from all parties, Reform just had a picture of Nigel Farage on it and not the candidate, that went on the dartboard. Labour only sent theirs out last week after many people had already done their postal vote, so not very organised.

I am politically homeless as I don't want to vote for any of them, I might have to vote for the Independent candidate.

wendywoopywoo222 · 02/07/2024 20:48

I had a personally addressed letter from rishi. Couple of paragraphs about why he is great. Lots of paragraphs slagging off everyone else.

Made me chuckle.

Ragwort · 02/07/2024 20:53

Leaflets from all of them, a personalised one from the Tory MP to my DS who will be voting in a GE for the first time. No door knockers which is a shame as I enjoy the debate ... have met them all at the local hustings.

Many, many years ago I was an active 'Young Socialist' at Uni, & very naive , I was sent out door knocking on the evening of a very important football final .. it did not go well Grin.

Bluevelvetsofa · 02/07/2024 20:54

We had a constituency boundary change recently, so I suppose we’re on the edge of the constituency now, but there has been nothing at all from the Tory candidate. I reckon she thinks she’ll prevail being a minister. She doesn’t live in the constituency, but I don’t know what she’s been doing since Parliament rose.

In the constituency we were in, the Tory MP said some time ago that he wasn’t standing. It took them until the beginning of June to put forward a candidate.

Theres been a leaflet from Labour, a leaflet from Green and, following the boundary change, the Lib Dem sent out newspapers on a regular basis. We had another today. She’s local, has been a local councillor and has done plenty for the community. She’s the only one with any chance of ousting the Tory, so my vote will be tactical to get rid of the incumbent.

Same here! Partner got two letters addressed to Dear (his name) and signed ‘love Rishi’. Well, not the love bit, but we assumed that as I didn’t get any it must be because Rishi has been thinking of him fondly and hoping I would make myself scarce.

CharismaticMegafauna · 02/07/2024 20:54

My Tory MP actually knocked on my door the other day. I was surprised to see her! I haven't found her to be a particularly good constituency MP; her predecessor (same party) was better.

StripedPiggy · 02/07/2024 20:55

I live in one of the safest Tory seats in the Midlands; in leafy, affluent true blue rural Leicestershire. In previous elections we have barely heard from our MP. Or any of the other candidates, to be fair. This time, we have been inundated with Tory leaflets & canvassed numerous times. Reform were campaigning noisily in the local villages last weekend.

He’s obviously panicking…

fussychica · 02/07/2024 20:56

Leaflets from all the main candidates, no canvassing. There was a debate at the townhall with all candidates but unfortunately couldn't attend as was on holiday.

He is predicted to lose the seat which is very safe but I think he'll hold unfortunately. This is partly because the Labour candidate is a woman from London who knows nothing about this largely rural constituency. Just a shame, as with the right candidate they probably could have taken it.

Sleepersausage · 02/07/2024 20:56

Had one leaflet from Torys, a few from lib Dems, one green and I think one labour, that's it

EdMilibandsNutSack · 02/07/2024 20:56

Yes we have had Tory leaflets. We also had a Labour leaflet presented with a big Union Jack on the front. I assumed it was Reform or Tory as it was so blue! Which was a little confusing I must say

Invent · 02/07/2024 20:57

Safe Tory seat (normally) .However neither the Lib Dem or Labour candidates live in the constituency which will surely put off some.

No knockers at all and some stupid leaflets that say nothing. Except from our local independent candidate who just asked very nicely if we could vote for him so he could get his deposit back at least.

Voterswung · 02/07/2024 20:58

No one.
But our new tory candidate is actually looking good. I couldn't tell you the name of anyone else or their cv.

Figgygal · 02/07/2024 21:00

Not seen any sign of him
Im friends with his ex neighbour who says he's a proper odious twat which isn't a surprise.
Only lib demo can beat the tories round herd so looks like we turning yellow again

BusyBeeBee82 · 02/07/2024 21:01

We’ve had a few posted from our Tory MP, he’s also doing a lot on social media etc. He’s actually a decent MP who has done lots for the area and gets very involved in matters affecting constituents.

Ive also had a small forest of stuff (Hogwarts level 1000) from labour - around 3-4 pieces of mail each week addressed to me and DP and also stuff put through the letter box from canvassers. Nothing from Lib Dem, and one a piece from the Reform and Green candidates.

feellikeanalien · 02/07/2024 21:01

I've had shedloads of leaflets from Labour including a personalised letter from Kier Starmer and one from Rachel Reeves. I had three through the door yesterday alone. I've also had one from LibDems, SDP, Greens, AFD (who seem to be anti vaxer loons) and a magazine style leaflet from the Tory MP listing all the marvellous things that have happened in the constituency.

Had a card through the door from the Tory saying he had called but I was out. He has a majority of about 10,000 and Labour seem to be the challengers. The candidate is local (and looks like Joe, Brenda Blethyn's sidekick in Vera!)

We're very rural so I wasn't expecting much door knocking. There's a very big farming community here so I'll be interested to see what happens.
