Tiny daft pleasures in the day (please add yours)

I have just noticed how much (quiet) joy I get, while making use of the toilets at my work, from karate-chopping the toilet paper to cut it after I have selected an appropriate length. Works best with work-place continuous roll - for some reason the perforations in domestic toilet paper inhibit the effectiveness of the technique. Any other tiny joys I should keep a look-out for?

A silly ritual we have is that when my DP wraps any presents for me, I’m in the same room. This is because it gives me huge pleasure to hear my goodies being wrapped. I am blindfolded so I can’t see what they are, but’s that’s a small price for the pleasure of hearing the wrapping under my nose. I love this game, and I look forward to it almost as much as opening the presents.

Japanese ground coffee - actually around the same price as other ground coffee (from Sainsbury - smooth blend!) - WITH (and this is what gives me joy) split cardamoms (around 2 pods) in my morning French press - foamed over warm oat milk. I shop in Aldi exclusively - but will go into SBRYS for just the coffee alone.

Weekends I slurp this coffee out of a soup bowl.

Pecan and maple Tesco pastries in previous message noted!

Dropping my kids to school, coming home and making my cereal - I love the cold milk and crunchy combination. I always feel slightly disappointed when I’ve finished lol.

My hour drive to work and back. Pure bliss, no children, no dh, no one to annoy me. Depending on how I am feeling I will put on a podcast, a playlist, or just pure silence 😂

Sometimes, I touch a tree as I walk past one in the forest. It reminds me that I'm linked to this natural world, to this earth. We're all here, right now, sharing this time and space. Amazing.

The way my dog runs to greet me when I get home from anywhere. Even if I've been to the local shop which is literally 2 minutes away.

Putting a wax melt in the burner. We were so soo broke for so so long that every penny was punished till it squeaked for mercy. So it feels wildly extravagant and thrillingly decadent to have spent a bit of money to have it literally go up in sweet-smelling smoke. (it is like £3 for three - but it still feels thrilling)

Having a shower with a fancy soap - same as above. the little upgrade up from store-bought 49p blue stripe to a lovely £1.50 soap makes me a little giddy and a bit fancy pants.

Love this post.

The feeling of summer shoes on my bare feet.

Listening to last night's episode of The Archers when I sit at my desk to start work every morning.

Going to the library and being able to bring home a pile of books absolutely free. I love libraries.

Deathraystare · 03/07/2024 12:58

I have narcolepsy and sleep apnoea so am always tired. First thing on coming home, even if I am very hungry, I fall on my bed and have a little snooze. Sometimes I wake up a few hours later and am not sure if it is day or night. I keep my curtains closed because I don't like the sun coming in.

When I can get free audible books.

@FakeAlaska
I used to love cardomom coffee! I would get it from the middle eastern stores. I can only have decaff now because of my health and also it is dehydrating and makes me pee even more than I do at the moment (which is a lot).

Oh, that sounds so exciting! Can you please tell me more about how you colour code your diary? Thanks!

Thank you for getting it and asking about my colour coding.

Red = essential work meetings

Orange = non-essential work mettings

Blue = Generic or regular things that are happening (e.g. dog needs flea treatment, monthly market happening today)

Green = Irregular things that are happening (e.g. opticians appointment, book club, someone coming to visit). Exciting things get a cloud surround with some extra decoration too.

Pale pink = Reminder to pay stuff

Light green = Information about me that I may/not need to know or be monitoring (namely weight)

Yellow = Used to note the cost of that day's train tickets so I can add up the total each month and also know which days I've actually booked already.

All the colours together and with stickers and glitter and other such things = Annual leave

All coloured pens are scented of course.

I'm a very senior, very professional woman in my late-30s.
