Tiny daft pleasures in the day (please add yours)

I have just noticed how much (quiet) joy I get, while making use of the toilets at my work, from karate-chopping the toilet paper to cut it after I have selected an appropriate length. Works best with work-place continuous roll - for some reason the perforations in domestic toilet paper inhibit the effectiveness of the technique. Any other tiny joys I should keep a look-out for?

Just the cats really. Anything they do delights me. It's a bit silly but that's love for you.

Dracuuule · 02/07/2024 16:19

Being woken up by heavy rain, or even better, a thunderstorm. It's such a pleasure when you know you're safe in bed.

That's lovely. I think washing machines have done as much or more to enable women's liberation and improve their lives than legislation and contraception.

Really?? Contraception?

(Much Less Washing).

frecklejuice · 02/07/2024 16:32

Taking my makeup off and putting my pj's on, I know it's relaxing time and also near time for bed!!

DisgruntledPelican · 02/07/2024 16:35

My north-facing, solidly built 1930s house. It is very dull-looking from the outside and nothing is on a straight line, but it is cool inside when muggy outside, and retains the heat if required in the colder months.

Yes! Did you ever see 'Victorian Farm' that was on tv years ago? Ruth Goodman is a tv historian that looks at more domestic side of history, she demonstrated how much work a Victorian farm wife would have spent on laundry. It really is quite shocking! She said that she thinks the washing machine has done more for women's lib than the pill.

Hot running water has always felt like a miracle to me. I mean, you turn a tap and hot water runs out! When I get in the shower and feel warm water running down my back, it's just delicious.

Going up an escalator. One of the fine grained satisfactions of urban life.

Reading my book in bed for half hour before sleep with the dog curled up in the gap between my torso and my elbow. Bliss.

A few pieces of posh licorice for a mid-afternoon snack.

My colour-coded paper diary.

Oh, that sounds so exciting! Can you please tell me more about how you colour code your diary? Thanks!

Washing on lines blowing in the wind , I love sitting there with a coffee just watching it ☺️

Topsy44 · 02/07/2024 17:01

Getting my first work coffee/tea of the day when no-one else is in the office so I can enjoy it in peace (and I don’t have to offer doing a round) and calmly read my emails before annoying colleague comes in!!

Stressedgiraffe · 02/07/2024 17:05

My dishwasher so much pleasure from it.
Also 3 screens for work.
Plus my dogs and cats.

Choosing exactly the right carriage on the underground that it stops exactly opposite the "Way Out" sign.

Just before opening this thread I looked out of the window at some rooks. One of them did a story of sideways skip that gave me a smile.

I bought some thin, loose, floaty trousers to wear as a beach cover up for a holiday in a few weeks. I discovered how comfortable and freeing they are and now wear them all day every day (have ordered more). I actually look forward to the moment I get dressed in the morning and put them on. They thankfully dry quickly so I just wash them and hang them up every night. Silly amounts of bliss caused by them.

Also the frozen maple and pecan plaits by tesco as a breakfast treat every day. Would highly recommend

Do tell us more about the trousers where from ?

Cerialkiller · 02/07/2024 17:11

Lists. I have dozens of the buggers.
On going Christmas lists, shopping lists, chores lists, work lists, fun craft lists when I have time, lists of things to pack for holiday. On my phone, on my lap top, on the fridge, on scraps of paper...

Once they are in a list I don't have to think of remember things anymore!!

Head butts from Toasty Boy Cat and Toasty Girl Cat to tell me they luffs me.

Crossing to do items off a list

The Germans even have a proper word for taking pleasure in crossing things off a list. DH and I can never remember it so we have made up a word that sounds vaguely Germanic and use that

”list-en-cross-en-off-en-en”

It's mid winter where I am, and I don't have central heating, or a very warm house.

Getting into bed when I've had my electric blanket on pre-heat. There are no words for this. Only sounds. I do a glee sound to myself every single time 😃

Sorry what, It's July everywhere isn't it.

My husband gets up before me and makes me a cup of tea before busying himself downstairs. Having a cup of tea in bed and an unobserved morning fart once he's left is a highlight.

This made me lol 😂

Like a PP, curled up on my bed with my dog.
Belly exposed, legs akimbo for a leisurely, furry tickle tum.
Doing it right now..
.. and my dog is relaxing also 😁

DuckyShincracker · 02/07/2024 18:04

Hanging my lovely pink bedding on the line this morning. DP and DD making home made blackcurrant jelly that is making the house smell lovely.

Theotherone234 · 02/07/2024 18:05

Driving my car. I love cars and I love driving. Due to work and family commitments I rarely have the chance to drive. So even just a 3 mile journey to visit the littles is a pleasure. Learning to drive and being able to afford a car are 2 of my greatest achievements. Also gives me independence.

I bought myself a box of Twinings Lady Grey teabags for work and have been drinking those instead of supermarket own-brand teabags. It makes long conference calls a little more bearable.

A lovely cuppa is a joy, especially when you really fancy one.

@Limth I'm going to need a link or a picture of this diary 😬
