Tiny daft pleasures in the day (please add yours)

I have just noticed how much (quiet) joy I get, while making use of the toilets at my work, from karate-chopping the toilet paper to cut it after I have selected an appropriate length. Works best with work-place continuous roll - for some reason the perforations in domestic toilet paper inhibit the effectiveness of the technique. Any other tiny joys I should keep a look-out for?

I bought some thin, loose, floaty trousers to wear as a beach cover up for a holiday in a few weeks. I discovered how comfortable and freeing they are and now wear them all day every day (have ordered more). I actually look forward to the moment I get dressed in the morning and put them on. They thankfully dry quickly so I just wash them and hang them up every night. Silly amounts of bliss caused by them.

Also the frozen maple and pecan plaits by tesco as a breakfast treat every day. Would highly recommend

Which ones Travelling T please, I too am on the hunt for them..

Receiving a parcel with bubble wrap and then spending a happy time popping it … I’m nearly 54 but love the noise/satisfaction :)

IbizaToTheNorfolkBroads · 02/07/2024 18:14

Sitting in the sun watching my 12 year old daughter play cricket.

We've not had a lot of sun, in fact most of her matches have been postponed or cancelled due to rain this season. I don't really get cricket, but I absolutely love that she has the opportunity to plays and loves it. No way was girls cricket a thing when I was 12.

Finding all the letters of the alphabet in my surroundings. For example, I was standing in a London tube carriage the other day and looking at the underground map - I go through from A to Z in my mind to find every letter and feel immense satisfaction if I'm able to.

My dogs coming upstairs in the morning, I love hearing them squealing with excitement!

Being woken up by heavy rain, or even better, a thunderstorm. It's such a pleasure when you know you're safe in bed.

Me too.
Sniffing a beautiful rose in my garden
Ironing line dried bedding - absolutely nothing beats that smell.

My daughter finally coming out of what has been a really grim virus. She has, for the first time in days, wanted to play in the garden when she got home from school. We made a den for faries out of flowers and normally I can't face loads of make believe play when I'm trying to cook tea and do other domestic stuff, but I was just so happy she feels better that I played for 45 minutes solid outside and left everything else till later.

Sorry what, It's July everywhere isn't it.

It’s winter in the southern hem though

AddictedToBooks · 02/07/2024 18:37

Spending half an hour to an hour doing my family tree (up to my 18th grandparents now - v.addictive)

Watching reruns of Brookside with a cup of tea in my Nanna's glass teacup (we used to watch it together, curled up on her sofa when I was young)

Cuddling up with my dogs as I read or watch TV

Those few moments as I'm falling asleep when I'm in the dozy stage

I hide a bag of jelly sweets in my desk drawer for when I’m working from home. I love just sneaking a few in the afternoon.

Ooh, do you have a link for the trousers, please?

Theme tune gets me every time. That's my election night sorted, binge watching Brookside and being gutted about the current state of Merseyside.

Getting my favourite seat on the train and having people leave the seat next to me free.

FudgeMcFlurry · 02/07/2024 18:55

Ooh yes to so many of these, including braless evenings (in!) with soft trousers!

Taking the foil of a new jar of instant coffee and sniffing.

Going for a wee during the night and realising you have another few hours in bed.

Going to bed - not a small thing I reckon it’s a highlight of every day.

Great thread OP!

ElsaMars · 02/07/2024 19:05

Getting Wordle in 3 is very satisfying
As is getting into bed, laying on my side and placing all the cushions and pillows just so, meaning I can be really comfortable watching the ipad in bed.

HeyMicky · 02/07/2024 19:15

Making up songs for the pets
Giving the dog the Vs as I eat the last bite of my toast

Congratulating my plants out loud as they show new little buds
Shouting "boobs" at my naked DDs as they go from the bathroom back to their bedrooms
Saying "you are" to many random things DH says

Ihateboris · 02/07/2024 19:32

Watching my labradors swimming in the River Dee! Always brings a smile to my face, even if I'm having a crap day 🙂

Tatiepot · 02/07/2024 19:39

I always think it's going to be a good day if I see herons on my way to work (and luckily I drive past several rivers and wet fields where they like to hang out!)

July all over the world. Winter in half of it.

I would also like to know where you got these floaty trews 😊

MotherofPearl · 02/07/2024 19:48

Opening a new bag of ground coffee and inhaling the smell.

Opening a new bar of soap (ideally Nesti Dante) and inhaling the smell.

I love nice smells and they give me a little burst of happiness.

DamnNutella · 02/07/2024 19:49

The sound of my bean to cup filter coffee maker in the morning, followed by the delicious smell of freshly brewed coffee, followed by coffee in my favourite mug that I bought from a local pottery shop. I do this every morning ☕️

Cangar · 02/07/2024 19:49

I like posh loose leaf tea and filling my fountain pens with ink. I find listening to an audio book on my commute really satisfying too.

HRTQueen · 02/07/2024 19:52

Listening to a good audio book or podcast while falling to sleep

I absolutely love it especially it it’s windy and raining

mrstumble36 · 02/07/2024 19:53

Recently there were some nesting birds in a box outside my office and I used to love stopping for a second and listening to them tweet before starting work.
